On Slope Estimation Capabilities Of Some Second Order Response Surface Designs, Polycarp E. Chigbu, Ngozi C. Umelo-Ibemere
On Slope Estimation Capabilities Of Some Second Order Response Surface Designs, Polycarp E. Chigbu, Ngozi C. Umelo-Ibemere
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
Two second order response surface designs (central composite design and extended central composite design) are compared on the basis of their slope estimation capabilities of a response function using quantile plots. A large number of points is randomly generated on a sphere of radius centred at the origin in a given region of interest. The scaled average slope variance is evaluated at each of these points and the quantiles of the resulting values are plotted. Both designs were compared using slope rotatability design criterion and result obtained show that both designs have stable slope variance and the extended central composite …
The Mcdonald Quasi Lindley Distribution And Its Statistical Properties With Applications, Rasool Roozegar, Fatemeh Esfandiyari
The Mcdonald Quasi Lindley Distribution And Its Statistical Properties With Applications, Rasool Roozegar, Fatemeh Esfandiyari
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
A new five-parameter distribution so-called the McDonald quasi Lindley distribution is proposed. The new distribution contains, as special submodels, several important distributions discussed in the literature, such as the beta quasi Lindley, Kumaraswamy quasi Lindley, beta Lindley, kumaraswamy Lindley and Lindley distributions, among others. The properties of this new distribution, including hazard function, reversed hazard function, shapes, moments, entropy and moment generating function are derived. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. Method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the parameters of the new and related distributions. The flexibility and usefulness of the new model …

A Size-Biased Probability Distribution For The Number Of Male Migrants, Priti
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this paper, an attempt is made to study the distribution of the number of male migrants from household through a sizebiased probability model based on certain assumptions. The parameters of the proposed model have been estimated by method of moments and its suitability is tested by applying it to a number of the observed set of population data collected under some sample surveys. We found that the proposed model describes the observed data satisfactorily well.
A New Distribution Using Sine Function- Its Application To Bladder Cancer Patients Data, Dinesh Kumar, Umesh Singh, Sanjay Kumar Singh
A New Distribution Using Sine Function- Its Application To Bladder Cancer Patients Data, Dinesh Kumar, Umesh Singh, Sanjay Kumar Singh
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
A new life time distribution is proposed by the use of Sine function in terms of some life time distribution as baseline distribution. It is derived for the baseline distribution as exponential distribution and some statistical properties of the new distribution, thus obtained have been studied. The new distribution have been shown better fit to the bladder cancer patients data as compared to some well known distributions available in the statistical literature through Akaike information criteria (AIC), Bayesian information criteria (BIC), - log-likelihood and the associated Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test values.

A Chain Ratio-Type Estimator For Population Median Under Double Sampling Design, Mursala Khan, Abdullah Yahia Al-Hossain
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this paper, we have proposed a chain ratio-type estimator for the population median under double sampling design using two auxiliary variables. The large sample properties of the proposed estimator are derived up to first order of approximation. For empirical study we have taken a real data sets from the literature of survey sampling, which shows that the proposed estimator has the higher percent relative efficiency over the [1] estimator, ratio, regression, [2], [3], [4] and [5] estimators.
Some Properties Of Exponentiated Weibull-Generalized Exponential Distribution, Suriya Jabeen, T. R Jan
Some Properties Of Exponentiated Weibull-Generalized Exponential Distribution, Suriya Jabeen, T. R Jan
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
Several general methods have been developed for generating new flexible family of distributions. In this paper an attempt has been made to develop the Exponentiated Weibull-Generalized Exponential Distribution (EWGED). This distribution is an extension of Generalized Weibull-Exponential distribution. Various properties of this distribution has been discussed viz limiting behaviour, Shannon’s entropy, moments, quantile function, hazard function, survival function. Skewness and kurtosis are discussed. Parameter estimation of exponentiated weibull-generalized exponential distribution by the maximum likelihood method is also provided.

Bayesian Analysis Of Generalized Gamma Distribution, Saima Naqash, S.P. Ahmad, A. Ahmed
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this paper, we propose to obtain Bayesian estimators of unknown parameters of a three parameter generalized gamma distribution, based on different priors using different loss functions. These methods are compared by using mean square error for real life data as well as simulation study with varying sample sizes in R software.
Characterization And Estimations Of Weighted Generalized Beta Probability Distributions, J. A. Reshi, A. Ahmed
Characterization And Estimations Of Weighted Generalized Beta Probability Distributions, J. A. Reshi, A. Ahmed
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this research paper, a new class of weighted Generalized Beta Distribution of first kind and Size biased Generalized Beta Distribution second kind has been considered. The several structural properties of these probability models include measures of central tendency and dispersion are defined. Some important theorems have been derived to estimates the parameters of weighted and size-biased beta distributions and identify the relations with other related distributions. It was observed that the square of the sample coefficient of variation is asymptotically unbiased estimator of square of the population coefficient of variation of these weighted and size biased generalized beta distributions. …

Daytime Plasma Drifts In The Equatorial Lower Ionosphere, D. Hui, B. G. Fejer
Daytime Plasma Drifts In The Equatorial Lower Ionosphere, D. Hui, B. G. Fejer
All Physics Faculty Publications
We have used extensive radar measurements from the Jicamarca Observatory during low solar flux periods to study the quiet time variability and altitudinal dependence of equatorial daytime vertical and zonal plasma drifts. The daytime vertical drifts are upward and have largest values during September-October. The day-to-day variability of these drifts does not change with height between 150 and 600 km, but the bimonthly variability is much larger in the F region than below about 200 km. These drifts vary linearly with height generally increasing in the morning and decreasing in the afternoon. The zonal drifts are westward during the day …

On Convergence Of Intermediate Order Statistics Under Power Normalization, Haroon M. Barakat, Azza R. Omar
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
We discuss the convergence of the moments of intermediate order statistics under power normalization. The moments convergence is established for four p-max-stable laws according to conditions imposed on the considered distribution and on the rank sequence.

Bayesian Estimation From Exponentiated Frechet Model Using Mcmc Approach Based On Progressive Type-Ii Censoring Data, Ahmed A. Soliman, A. H. Abd Ellah, Essam. A. Ahmed, Al-Wageh A. Farghal
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
Based on progressively Type-II censored samples, the maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayes estimators for the parameters as well as some lifetime parameters (reliability and hazard functions) of the exponentiated Frchet (EF) distribution are derived. The confidence interval of the parameters are obtained based on an asymptotic distribution of maximum likelihood estimators. Further; we consider delta method and bootstrap method to construct approximate confidence intervals for reliability and hazard functions. The Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in closed form. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method has been used to compute the approximate Bayes estimates and also to …

The Simulation Studies Of Stress-Strength Model For Eled, M. A. El-Damcese, M. O. Mohamed, Gh. Marei
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this paper, the estimation of R = P [Y < X], namely Stress- Strength model is studied when both X and Y are two independent random variables with the extended linear exponential distribution (ELED), under different assumptions about their parameters, Maximum likelihood estimator in the case of fixed two parameters (𝑎=1,𝑏= 2), common unknown parameters (𝑎1=𝑎2=𝑎,𝑏1=𝑏2=𝑏), and all unknown parameters (𝑎1,𝑎2,𝑏1,𝑏2,𝛼,𝛽) can also be obtained in explicit form. Estimating R with Bayes estimator with non-informative prior in the same previous cases with the same parameters , we obtain the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator and it can be used to construct confidence interval of R. Different methods are compared using simulations and one data analysis has been performed for illustrative purposes.

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all in the IMSA family who have proudly served our country. We were excited to host Lieutenant Commander Chris Dargis ’89 during yesterday’s annual Veterans Day Convocation as he shared how his experience at IMSA had a lasting impact on him and his service to the U.S. Navy helped to shape his leadership.
Unfortunately, I missed Lt Cdr Dargis’ presentation because I was at the State Capitol in Springfield. I’m pleased to report that yesterday the Illinois House of Representatives passed House Bill 4305 with 115 votes. The “Lottery Bill,” as it has become …

We introduce a new instrument for the measurement of in situ ambient aerosol extinction over the 300– 700 nm wavelength range, the spectral aerosol extinction (SpEx) instrument. This measurement capability is envisioned to complement existing in situ instrumentation, allowing for simultaneous measurement of the evolution of aerosol optical, chemical, and physical characteristics in the ambient environment. In this work, a detailed description of the instrument is provided along with characterization tests performed in the laboratory. Measured spectra of NO2 and polystyrene latex spheres (PSLs) agreed well with theoretical calculations. Good agreement was also found with simultaneous aerosol extinction measurements at …

A Cognitive Neural Architecture Able To Learn And Communicate Through Natural Language, B Golosio, A Cangelosi, O Gamotina, Gl Masala
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
Communicative interactions involve a kind of procedural knowledge that is used by the human brain for processing verbal and nonverbal inputs and for language production. Although considerable work has been done on modeling human language abilities, it has been difficult to bring them together to a comprehensive tabula rasa system compatible with current knowledge of how verbal information is processed in the brain. This work presents a cognitive system, entirely based on a large-scale neural architecture, which was developed to shed light on the procedural knowledge involved in language elaboration. The main component of this system is the central executive, …

Bayes Multiple Binary Classifier - How To Make Decisions Like A Bayesian, Wensong Wu
Bayes Multiple Binary Classifier - How To Make Decisions Like A Bayesian, Wensong Wu
Mathematics Colloquium Series
This presentation will start by a general introduction of Bayesian statistics, which has become popular in the era of big data. Then we consider a two-class classification problem, where the goal is to predict the class membership of M units based on the values of high-dimensional categorical predictor variables as well as both the values of predictor variables and the class membership of other N independent units. We focus on applying generalized linear regression models with Boolean expressions of categorical predictors. We consider a Bayesian and decision-theoretic framework, and develop a general form of Bayes multiple binary classification functions with …

An instrumented NASA P-3B aircraft was used for airborne sampling of trace gases in a plume that had emanated from a small forest understory fire in Georgia, USA. The plume was sampled at its origin for deriving emission factors and followed ~ 13.6 km downwind for observing chemical changes during the first hour of atmospheric aging. The P-3B payload included a proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PTR-ToF-MS), which measured non-methane organic gases (NMOGs) at unprecidented spatio-temporal resolution (10m/0.1 s). Quantitative emission data are reported for CO2, CO, NO, NO2, HONO, NH3 and 16 NMOGs (formaldehyde, methanol, …
