Reading The Tea Leaves In Singapore: Who Will Be Left Holding The Bag For Secondary Trademark Infringement On The Internet, Irene Calboli
Faculty Scholarship
This Article explores the issue of secondary liability in Singapore trademark law, with particular attention to intermediaries on the Internet, including Internet service providers (ISPs), e-commerce companies, search engines, website operators, online financial service providers and social media sites. Section 27(5) of the Singapore Trade Marks Act attributes liability to those who use a mark "knowing or having reasons to believe" that such use is not authorized by the trademark owner or licensee. More precisely, the provision excludes trademark liability for those "persons" who use a trademark in the course of trade, namely "for labelling or packaging goods" or as …

Decline Of Diporeia In Lake Michigan: Was Disease Associated With Invasive Species The Primary Factor?, Courtney S. Cave, Kevin Strychar
Open Access Publishing Support Funded Articles
Populations of the freshwater amphipod Diporeia spp. have steadily declined in Lake Michigan since the late 1980’s. Prior studies have provided inconclusive data on possible reasons for their decline. However, some authors suggest that food competition and/or diseases associated with aquatic invasive species (AIS), such as zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha), may have caused the collapse of Diporeia. In this project, the possibility of pathogens as the cause of the collapse of Diporeia has been examined. Linear regression modeling show a significant positive linear association between percent of Diporeia exhibiting a pathogenic infection and year (r=0.7202264, p2 = …

Influence Of Affluence On Sustainable Housing: A Contextual Study Of Mysore, India, S Basavapatna Kumaraswamy
School of Art, Design and Architecture
This inter-disciplinary research draws understanding from the socialcultural and economic studies to define the values and aspirations of the middle class demographic and its implications on the sustainable housing. Shared spaces have traditionally played a key role in passive cooling strategies and the maintenance of socially sustainable communities. Changes in social conditions, practices and lifestyle can be traced by the way they identify, demarcate and celebrate their boundaries. This research points to the importance of the external boundary of the site and the edge of buildings in terms of aligning meaningful sustainable design strategies with the concerns and aspirations of …

Bastos, Catherine L. Sole, Mawlouth Diallo, Joel Lutomiah, James Mutisya, Francis Mulwa, Christian Borgemeister, Rosemary Sang, Baldwyn Torto
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreaks in Kenya have increased in frequency and range to include northeastern Kenya where viruses are increasingly being isolated from known (Aedes mcintoshi) and newly-associated (Ae. ochraceus) vectors. The factors contributing to these changing outbreak patterns are unclear and the population genetic structure of key vectors and/or specific virus-vector associations, in particular, are under-studied. By conducting mitochondrial and nuclear DNA analyses on >220 Kenyan specimens of Ae. mcintoshi and Ae. ochraceus, we uncovered high levels of vector complexity which may partly explain the disease outbreak pattern. Results indicate that Ae. mcintoshi consists of a species complex …

After partnering with Georgia State to improve North Metro's Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, our program saw a need to create an easy and streamlined way for our teachers to write these FBA and BIPs for our students. North Metro consists of three different counties, each with their own Behavior Plan template. The new process has allowed all three of our counties to use the same templates, creating consistency across the program. In an effort to make sure that teachers and support staff were implementing the written BIPs effectively, I created a BIP fidelity report that is to …

Developing Instruction For The Multi-Grade Level Gnets Classroom, Amanda C. Oxford
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
Many believe that the biggest challenge to working in the GNETS program is managing behavior. Planning effective and appropriate instruction can be a substantial challenge as well. Education today is very focused on standards based instruction which presents a unique challenge to the GNETS teacher. A GNETS teacher may be responsible for covering standards for 3, 4 or 6 grade levels each period of the day. They also are often responsible for planning all subjects during the day and cannot reuse plans because they work with their students for several years in a row. Well planned lessons in the GNETS …

Dutch Landscape Painting: Documenting Globalization And Environmental Imagination, Irene J. Klaver
Dutch Landscape Painting: Documenting Globalization And Environmental Imagination, Irene J. Klaver
Proceedings from the Document Academy
There is an old saying that God made the Earth, but the Dutch made the Netherlands; they did this by engineering relationships of the water and land.
The Dutch landscape is an authored landscape documenting human reaction to geological, economic, and cultural changes. As a consequence of Dutch globalization, landscape painting arose as a new form of painting, documenting these changes and reactions to them. In a period of newly created land, reclaimed and constructed by sheer human activity, the explicit construction of new environments apparently elicited an implicit desire to hold on to an older, familiar traditional landscape. The …

Using Behavioral And Cognitive Strategies In The Home, Matthew Segall, Charlie Coleman
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
Cognitive behavioral therapy is an emerging evidenced based practice for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, often to address symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other associated conditions. Typically, CBT is used exclusively in clinical settings such as individually with a psychologist. However, there are ways to take the principles of CBT and apply them to the home setting. The proposed presentation will help parents understand some of the behavioral and cognitive strategies that they can use at home to increase appropriate behavior, build positive routines, and help promote positive interactions and coping skills.

Development indicators from World Health Organization and the World Bank provide glaring evidence that Africa countries are far behind other regions of the world in health conditions of the citizens. This paper discusses the benefits that accrue from having a healthy old age population. Such includes poverty reduction, stress free ageing, assisting in taking care of young ones. It examines the role of information in enhancing healthy ageing in Africa. …

Best Practices In Training Caregivers To Implement Behavioral Interventions, Joanna Lomas Mevers, Nathan Call, Mindy Scheithauer, Sarah Miller, Dana Bamford, Kelly Autry, Faith Cawthon
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
It has been well documented in the literature that behavioral interventions are effective in reducing a wide variety of maladaptive behaviors such as aggression, self-injury and destructive behaviors (Allen & Warzak, 2000; Campbell, 2003). Despite the success of these interventions, they are often implemented in tightly controlled settings with third party individuals that are able to implement procedures with a high degree of integrity (Fryling, 2014). Due to the complexities of the natural environment, caregivers may be less likely to implement behavioral interventions with the same degree of integrity and have limited available time for training on procedures. Therefore, it …
