S.T.O.I.C Classroom Managment, Mark J. Fynewever Dec 2014

S.T.O.I.C Classroom Managment, Mark J. Fynewever

Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference

All teachers want their students to be successful in both school and in life. However, difficult classroom behavior often drives teachers from the classroom. At the core of student success and teacher effectiveness is a strong classroom management plan. In this session participants will learn how to structure their classroom management under the S.T.O.I.C model. STOIC stands for Structure, Teach, Observe, Interact, and Correct. The STOIC model aligns directly with the core PBIS elements and can easily be adapted from classroom to classroom. It gives participants practical direction for developing a strong classroom management plan!

Principles For Optimizing The Scale Of Direct Potable Water Reuse: Economic Network Modeling Studies, Tianjiao Guo Dec 2014

Principles For Optimizing The Scale Of Direct Potable Water Reuse: Economic Network Modeling Studies, Tianjiao Guo

Open Access Dissertations

The US National Research Council recently recommended direct potable water reuse (DPR), or potable water reuse without environmental buffer, for consideration to address rising US water demand. In addition, conveyance of wastewater and water to and from centralized treatment plants currently consumes on average four times the energy of treatment in the US. Moreover, scaling of DPR systems involves tradeoffs beyond those of treatment facility economy-of-scale versus cost and energy of conveyance. In particular, additional factors favoring distributed DPR include minimization of energy for upgradient distribution of treated water, and retention of wastewater thermal energy. Therefore, a network modeling study …

Contesting Risk, Precaution And Legitimacy: A Case Study Of Lafarge, Savitri Vasanta Gordian

LLM Theses

This thesis examines debates about the precautionary principle in a tribunal and judicial review proceeding where environmental groups and individuals challenged a proposal to burn tires and other non-traditional fuel sources at a cement plant in Ontario, Canada. Chapter 1 explores scholarship on the precautionary principle and outlines the unique analytical contributions offered by administrative constitutionalism theory. Chapter 2 sets out the case study methodology employed by the author. Chapter 3 explains the legislative context. In chapters 4 through 9, each participant’s arguments are analyzed in relation to the two paradigms of administrative constitutionalism: Rational-Instrumentalist and Deliberative-Constitutive. This thesis establishes …

The Lincoln Assassination: Crime And Punishment, Myth And Memory, Harold Holzer, Craig L. Symonds, Frank J. Williams

History

The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln remains one of the most prominent events in U.S. history. It continues to attract enormous and intense interest from scholars, writers, and armchair historians alike, ranging from painstaking new research to wild-eyed speculation. At the end of the Lincoln bicentennial year, and the onset of the Civil War sesquicentennial, the leading scholars of Lincoln and his murder offer in one volume their latest studies and arguments about the assassination, its aftermath, the extraordinary public reaction (which was more complex than has been previously believed), and the iconography that Lincoln’s murder and deification inspired.

From Energy-Intensive To Innovation-Led Growth: On The Transition Dynamics Of China’S Economy, Zhongxiang Zhang, Wei Jin

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

Whether China continues its current energy-intensive growth path or adopts a sustainable development prospect has significant implication for energy and climate governance. Building on a Ramsey-Cass-Koopmans growth model incorporating the mechanism of endogenous technological change and its interaction with fossil energy use and economic growth, this paper contributes to an economic exposition of China’s potential transition from an energy-intensive to an innovation-led growth path. We find that in China’s initial growth period the small amount of capital stock creates higher dynamic benefits of capital investment and incentives of capital stock accumulation rather than R&D-related innovation. Accumulation of energy-consuming capital stock …

The Influence Of Salt Marsh Fucoid Algae (Ecads) On Sediment Dynamics Of Northwest Atlantic Marshes, M. C. Tyrrell, Carol S. Thornber, J. A. Burkhardt, M. Congretel

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

Resilience is currently a key theme within salt marsh ecological studies. Understanding the factors that affect salt marsh accretion and elevation gains are of paramount importance if management of these ecosystems is to be successful under increasing synergistic stresses of storm surge, inundation period, and eutrophication. We present the results of salt marsh fucoid algae (ecads) removal experiments on Spartina alterniflora abundance, production and decomposition and the sedimentary dynamics of two marshes on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The presence of the thick layer of marsh fucoids had a significant and positive influence on sediment deposition, accretion, concentration of water column particulates, …

Hf Accelerated Electron Fluxes, Spectra, And Ionization, Herbert C. Carlson, Joseph B. Jensen

All Physics Faculty Publications

Wave particle interactions, an essential aspect of laboratory, terrestrial, and astrophysical plasmas, have been studied for decades by transmitting high power HF radio waves into Earth’s weakly ionized space plasma, to use it as a laboratory without walls. Application to HF electron acceleration remains an active area of research (Gurevich, 2007) today. HF electron acceleration studies began when plasma line observations proved (Carlson et al, 1982) that high power HF radio wave-excited processes accelerated electrons not to ~ eV, but instead to - 100 times thermal energy (10s of eV), as a consequence of inelastic collision effects on electron transport. Gurevich …

Annunciate Virgin, Risd Museum, Evelyn Lincoln Dec 2014

Annunciate Virgin, Risd Museum, Evelyn Lincoln

Channel

This scene from the Annunciation is all that remains of a commission for the Church of Santa Margherita, the devotional center of a hospital and monastery in the Tuscan city of Prato. Its daring color and figural exaggeration are aspects of a late-Renaissance Mannerist style for which the Florentine artist Mirabello Cavalori was known. Like many candlelit altarpieces, the painting was damaged by fire, destroying the figure of the Angel Gabriel. At left, his surviving hand draws the gaze of the Virgin Mary, who is seated in a 16th-century palazzo near a balcony overlooking a mountainous landscape. Her modest but …
