The U.S. colleges and universities offering non-sectarian educational programs in Jewish Studies rely on the support of their academic libraries for research materials and library services. For college libraries which use Library of Congress Classification scheme, it is a common practice to integrate "studies" resources into their general library collections. Since Jewish Studies sources span a vast number of subjects within all major disciplines, shelving integration leads to the dispersion of all relevant sources and such dispersion in turn leads to a variety of problems for library professionals and library users. While the active phase of the Chechen conflict ended in 2000 – more than a decade ago—the underlying social, economic, and political issues of the region remain. A low-level insurgency continues to persist in the North Caucasus region, with occasional terrorist attacks in the Russian heartland. On November 23, 2013, the Chinese government announced plans to establish a new air defense intercept zone which will include the Diaoyu or Senkaku Islands, sovereignty over which is disputed by Japan, China, and Taiwan. Due to complaints of cyber penetrations attributed to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and State are devising new means to protect intellectual property and secrets from the PLA’s computer network operations. The Department of Defense has expressed interest in thorium dioxide (ThO₂) and uranium dioxide (UO₂) as possible candidates for use as special nuclear material in designing neutron detectors. Both materials have large neutron interaction cross sections. Uranium dioxide is particularly attractive due to its semiconducting properties and a relatively small band gap of 2 eV. Both materials fluoresce under ionizing radiation making them candidates for scintillating detectors. Three U_x:Th_1-xO₂ (x= 0.00, 0.01, 0.22) hydrothermally grown single crystals were examined using cathodoluminescence to interrogate the changing electronic properties of ThO₂ as …

The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is a federal law that governs the crime of computer hacking.  However, it was written in a time before the internet as we know it existed.  Aaron’s Law is the latest proposal aimed at fixing it.  Aaron Schwartz, the law’s namesake, tragically committed suicide while being prosecuted for a violation of this law.  This Comment argues that Aaron’s Law is a good step forward, but not the overhaul this nation deserves.

Although he had never attended the army’s basic training course and was in the process of being discharged by the National Guard for failing to meet “basic education requirements,” Teausant thought he could teach the Syrian jihadists shooting skills and urban warfare tactics

A passive chipless radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag based on a log-periodic (LP) dipole array is proposed, where the tailorable bandrejection property of the LP aperture is utilised to realise a large number of codes. The proposed tag principle is successfully validated by measurements, where the absence and presence of the band-rejection is shown to carry the bit information. Its fabrication simplicity is also demonstrated by its implementation on a flexible substrate. Finally, two different tag formation schemes, based on a specific set of resonance suppressions, are discussed in detail. © 2014 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

As self described, the Lakota (or Teton Sioux) are a group of Native Americans characterized by their emphasis on ideals such as community, affinity, generosity, cooperation, and strength. The term Lakota roughly translates to "an alliance of people." Traditionally, they are a people strongly motivated by personal responsibility to the whole of society and philosophically wedded to the notion of “affinity,” which involves living in harmony with others, having a sense of belonging to one’s community, valuing interpersonal relationships, and trusting one another (Marshall, 2005). Thomas Schelling was recognized by the Nobel Prize committee as a pioneer in the application of game theory and rational choice analysis to problems of politics and international relations. However, although he makes frequent references in his writings to this approach, his main explorations and insights depend upon and require acknowledgment of its limitations. One of his principal concerns was how a country could engage in successful deterrence. If the behavioral assumptions that commonly underpin game theory are taken seriously and applied consistently, however, nuclear adversaries are almost certain to engage in devastating conflict, as John von Neumann forcefully asserted. …
