Intraindividual Personality Change: Situational Influences, Patterns Of Change, And Frequency-Based Measurement, Carol Tweten Jan 2014

Intraindividual Personality Change: Situational Influences, Patterns Of Change, And Frequency-Based Measurement, Carol Tweten

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

A large amount of research supports the idea that little change in personality occurs over time (e.g., Caspi & Roberts, 2001). However, changes in an individual’s personality across different situations, known as intraindividual, or within-person, variability, has not received nearly as much empirical attention, in part due to the difficulties inherent in measuring personality across situations. The present study evaluated a measure of within-person variability called frequency-based measurement by comparing it with situational personality expression. The study involved two phases: a one-time measure of trait personality using frequency-based measurement and a five day experience sampling (ESM) study involving repeated measures …

Tube Current Modulated Computed Tomography Effective Dose And Size Specific Organ Dose Estimates With Impact: Total Scan Versus Slice By Slice Parameters For Urogram Protocols, David Wayne Byrd

LSU Master's Theses

Purpose: One of the predominant computed tomography (CT) dosimetry estimation programs, ImPACT, was not designed to estimate organ absorbed dose or effective dose for modern tube current modulated-CT (TCM-CT). ImPACT also only estimates organ doses for a standard adult hermaphrodite mathematical phantom, not for a specific patient. Two methods for calculating size specific TCM-CT organ absorbed dose and non-size dependent TCM-CT effective dose were developed and compared with conventional dose estimation methods. Methods: A sample of 48 TCM-CT urogram procedures was obtained. Patient specific dose was calculated for each data set by two methods. The first method was a summation …

Development Of An Alternative Bait For The Louisiana Commercial Blue Crab (Callinectes Sapidus) Fishery, Angelle Nicole Anderson Jan 2014

Development Of An Alternative Bait For The Louisiana Commercial Blue Crab (Callinectes Sapidus) Fishery, Angelle Nicole Anderson

LSU Master's Theses

The blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) is a commercially, recreationally, and ecologically important species in Louisiana coastal waters. Louisiana landings account for more than 80% of Gulf of Mexico hard crab landings. In 2012, over 24 thousand metric tons of blue crab were landed in Louisiana with an economic value over $52 million. The blue crab fishery in the northern Gulf of Mexico relies heavily on Atlantic menhaden (Brevoortia tyrannus) for bait, which is a species with stock concerns resulting in approximately a 20% decrease in total allowable catch beginning in 2013. Decreased landings results in increased cost of B. tyrannus …

Ground Arthropod Abundance In Switchgrass And Diverse Prairie Agroenergy Crops, Stephanie Paape, Libby Torresani, Mark C. Myers

Undergraduate Student Work

The University of Northern Iowa’s Tallgrass Prairie Center converted corn and soybean fields in the Cedar River Natural Resource Area to four mixes of perennial tallgrass prairie species. Research plots were randomly seeded with one of four treatments of native prairie vegetation including a switchgrass monoculture and a 32-species prairie mix. We studied ground arthropod abundance in Switchgrass and the 32-species prairie mix at various distances from the nearest woody edge using pitfall traps. We hypothesized that a 32-species Prairie mix would support greater numbers of ground arthropods than a Switchgrass monoculture and that ground arthropod abundance would be greater …

Turkish Journal of Biology

Aortic aneurysm is characterized as localized degeneration of the aorta leading to advanced weakening and widening of the vessel. While the exact mechanisms have yet to be determined, current studies indicate that the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) may result in extendibility, dilation, and rupture of the vessel. Within the aortic wall, SMCs are implicated as key components involved in disease development, as numerous molecular changes have been reported to occur. Most current studies involve either investigation of proteins constituting a group or pathway in SMCs, or analyses of the whole …

Nkx3.1 Binding To Gpx2, Qscn6, Sod1, And Sod2 Promoters Contributes To Antioxidant Response Regulation Via Transactivation, Bi̇lge Debeleç Bütüner, Kemal Sami̇ Korkmaz

Turkish Journal of Biology

NKX3.1 is a prostate-specific transcription factor that is regulated by the androgen receptor in the presence of androgens. It functions as a tumor suppressor against the development of prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and primary prostate tumors. Here, a recognized approach combining in silico analysis and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) was used to identify the genes directly regulated by NKX3.1 promoter binding in LNCaP cells. Quantitative PCR using ChIP-captured DNAs as templates verified a subset of NKX3.1 binding motifs. Thus, in the presence of androgens, significant NKX3.1 binding occurs to promoters of GPX2, QSCN6, SOD1, and SOD2 genes that contribute to oxidative stress …
