The Corrections System Must Make More Accommodations For The Needs Of Motherhood During Incarceration And The Parole Period, Susan Bloom
Theses & Dissertations
While the overall prison population has experienced an unprecedented growth period over the past thirty years, no segment has grown at a faster rate than the female population. Since the majority of female inmates in this country are mothers, it is imperative that the corrections system addresses the unique needs of this subset. This thesis investigates problems women face during the pregnancy period, while in labor and delivery, while their progenies are infants, children and adolescents and reunification issues during the parole period.

The New Steam: On Digitization, Decentralization, And Disruption, Deven R. Desai
The New Steam: On Digitization, Decentralization, And Disruption, Deven R. Desai
UC Law Journal
Digitization is the new steam. Steam allowed us to leverage like never before and spawned a series of new offerings and new needs. The steam era started with many competitors and inventors and ended with only a few concentrated winners. The winners contributed vast amounts to society and spawned a need for new laws, from antitrust to product liability to intellectual property to securities, and more. Just as steam disrupted old industries and fostered new ones, digitization is providing the same changes today. Digitization opens the door to decentralized production, lower costs, and disruption of incumbents, but digitization does not …
Note – Return To “Reasonable” In Section 1983 Police Pursuit Excessive Force Litigation, Benjamin Buchwalter
Note – Return To “Reasonable” In Section 1983 Police Pursuit Excessive Force Litigation, Benjamin Buchwalter
UC Law Journal
Scott v. Harris set the standard that a police officer’s use of deadly force to terminate a high-speed chase is presumptively reasonable, even if it is likely to kill or seriously injure the suspect. The implications of this are troubling: twenty-eight percent of people killed in police pursuits each year are innocent bystanders, and vehicle accidents are the most common cause of police deaths. Scott was wrongly decided because it departed from the case-by-case reasonableness standard upon which the Supreme Court previously relied for excessive force cases, failed to consider the potential risk that these chases added to the public, …
The Evaluation Of Emotion Regulation In Caregivers Referred To A Parent-Training Program, Nancy M. Wallace
The Evaluation Of Emotion Regulation In Caregivers Referred To A Parent-Training Program, Nancy M. Wallace
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
In recent years, emotion regulation has become a topic of particular interest to both clinicians and researchers and has been shown to play a significant role in a variety of behavioral and psychological difficulties in both adults and children (Gratz & Tull, in press). However, parents of children referred for parent training may experience significant difficulty regulating their emotions as they attempt to cope with and control their children's misbehavior. The present study explored the role of caregiver emotion regulation in parent training by attempting to understand if (1) parents and children who are referred for parent training have difficulty …

Freedom Of Expression And Right To Privacy In The European Union: The Right To Photographs Private Properties, Alifia Qonita Sudharto
Freedom Of Expression And Right To Privacy In The European Union: The Right To Photographs Private Properties, Alifia Qonita Sudharto
Indonesian Journal of International Law
The debate to make a balance between exercising the freedom of expression and the right to privacy has never reached a global consensus, even among the European Union member states. In relation to the copyright law, there are no prohibitions or limitations in taking photographs, but the right to privacy has to be taken into account. The problems between the act of taking photographs and its limitation regarding the right to privacy have been increased to a new level with the development of copyright law, called the freedom of panorama, which might allow taking photographs of private properties without having …

Performance Analysis Of Mobile Ad-Hoc Routing Protocols By Varying Mobility, Speed And Network Load, Nilotpal Sarmah
Performance Analysis Of Mobile Ad-Hoc Routing Protocols By Varying Mobility, Speed And Network Load, Nilotpal Sarmah
Department of Computer Electronics and Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
One of the most promising network that has emerged from the technology world is the mobile ad-hoc network or MANET. It is a type of multi-hop network. Wireless by nature, MANETs do not have a specific network infrastructure. It is a collection of wireless mobile devices that communicate with each other without the help of any third party backbone like a base-station or a router. It can be hard to imagine how every node in this type of network communicate with one another without having a router. In MANETs, nodes change locations with time, configure themselves and get the information …

Using Gis To Assess Firearm Thefts, Recoveries And Crimes In Lincoln, Nebraska, David A. Grosso
Using Gis To Assess Firearm Thefts, Recoveries And Crimes In Lincoln, Nebraska, David A. Grosso
Department of Geography: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Firearm use in the United States has long been of great concern and at the center of many debates. Most research, however, has either focused on the use of firearms in violent crimes or the availability of firearms compared to the violent crime rates. Few studies have focused on the theft of firearms or the relationships between stolen firearms and crime. Using seven years of data collected Lincoln, Nebraska Police Department, this thesis focuses on the geospatial dimensions of firearm thefts and recoveries. Specific attention is given to the relationship firearm thefts and recoveries have with gun-related crimes, violent crimes, …

Repeated Multibeam Echosounder Hydrographic Surveys Of 15 Selected Bridge Crossings Along The Missouri River From Niobrara To Rulo, Nebraska, During The Flood Of 2011, Benjamin J. Dietsch, Brenda K. Densmore, Kellan R. Strauch
United States Geological Survey: Water Reports and Publications
In 2011, unprecedented flooding in the Missouri River prompted transportation agencies to increase the frequency of monitoring riverbed elevations near bridges that cross the Missouri River. Hydrographic surveys were completed in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Roads, using a multibeam echosounder at 15 highway bridges spanning the Missouri River from Niobrara to Rulo, Nebraska during and after the extreme 2011 flood.
Evidence of bed elevation change near bridge piers was documented. The greatest amount of bed elevation change during the 2011 flood documented for this study occurred at the Burt County Missouri River Bridge at Decatur, Nebraska, where scour …

Cost And Co2 Optimization Of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using A Big Bang-Big Crunch Algorithm, Darin Patrick Nelson
Cost And Co2 Optimization Of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using A Big Bang-Big Crunch Algorithm, Darin Patrick Nelson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
A multi-objective optimization of CO2 emissions and cost for the design of reinforced concrete beam developed. The analysis and design procedures are based on specifications prescribed by the American Concrete Institute (ACI 318M-11) and Eurocode 2 (EC2) for concrete design. Two, three, and four span continuous beams are optimized to meet strength and serviceability limits of each code and then compared. In addition, cost optimization only is used to compare results with results from another publication. The multi-objective optimization uses a hybrid Big Bang-Big Crunch algorithm. Pareto fronts for cost and CO2 emissions are developed for design examples to compare …

Animals And Law In The American City, Irus Braverman
Animals And Law In The American City, Irus Braverman
Contributions to Books
Published as Chapter 6 in Environmental Law and Contrasting Ideas of Nature: a Constructivist Approach, Keith H. Hirokawa, ed.
Whereas a large and growing scholarly literature is dedicated to studying human populations in the city, not much has been written about nonhuman animals in this space. This essay explores the presence of nonhuman animals in the American city through a legal lens. I begin with a few general contemplations about the legal classification of animals in American cities, and then move to explore specific legal classifications of animals in cities: domestic and companion animals, agriculture or livestock animals, wild animals, …
