MPA/MPP/MPFM Capstone Projects

Horse racing is a well-known sport and the part of the horse industry best known to the public; however, there is little information on the health status and health needs of people who work in this business. Past research shows that the thoroughbred worker population faces a myriad of health challenges. Swanberg et al. (2013) studied demographics, working conditions, and health of Latinos who work on thoroughbred farms in the United States by analyzing phone interviews, face-to-face interviews, and injury logs. The majority of injuries in this study are general injuries such as getting kicked or injuring fingers.

An Analysis Of Theta Role Of Verbs In Hausa / Ali Umar Muhammad, Ali Umar Muhammad

Student Works (2010-2019)

Hausa is a native language of an ethnic group who call themselves Hausawa. The Hausas are basically the dominant ethnic group in an area known as the Hausa land in Nigeria, some part of Niger, and other African countries. It is evident that various researchers have provided some extensive descriptions of the grammar of the language, but thematic relation, which is one of the important theories in syntax within Generative Grammar, appeared to be neglected, as none of the available literature discussed the theta role using Radford‟s theory. Theta role is precisely the semantic relationship between the verb and arguments. …

A Study Of Polysemy On Chinese Body-Part Terms Tou ‘Head’ And Yan ‘Eye’ : A Cognitive Approach / Lv Yetong, Yetong Lv

Student Works (2010-2019)

Polysemy, or the association of two or more related meanings with a single linguistic form (Taylor, 1995, p.99), is ubiquitous in language and receives attention from many linguistic disciplines. Cognitive linguists interpret the meanings of polysemous words based on conventional conceptual structures, as the identification of polysemy involves the conceptualization of everyday life. Based on the principles of cognitive linguistics, this study analyzes polysemy through an in-depth examination of Chinese body-part terms, namely tou „head‟ and yan „eye‟, in order to unfold the internal relationships among the meanings of polysemous words. According to the findings, first, the original or literal …

Determination Of Free Glycerin And Mono-, Di-, Triglycerides In Palm-Based Biodiesel Using Fast Gas Chromatography / Pua Swee Ping, Swee Ping Pua

Student Works (2010-2019)

As the tremendous growth of biodiesel industry, demand of fast analysis turnaround time becomes essential to sustain the drastic increase of samples quantity and to deliver the result on time. A fast gas chromatography (GC) method was developed using a shorter metal column to determine free glycerin and total glycerin, as well as mono-, di-, and triglyceride content in biodiesel. More than two times reduction of analysis time (16 minutes) was achieved by using this fast GC method without sacrificing the peaks resolution. Method validation results show good linearity (r2 > 0.95) and repeatability (RSD < 8%) with acceptable limit of quantification. In addition, the calibration modules proposed in this method covers the quantification of biodiesel derived from wide range of fatty acids carbon chain, including lauric based methyl esters. This research covers the various parameters used in developing the fast GC method to analyse palm kernel and palm stearin based biodiesel.
