Nebraska Sex Offender Registry Study: Interim Report, Ryan E. Spohn
Reports
Sexual victimization is of great concern to the public, as evidenced by the legislative attention it has received over the last twenty years (Adkins, Huff, and Stageberg 2000; Levenson 2006; Sample and Kadleck 2008; Schram and Milloy 1995; Walker et al. 2005; Zevit 2006). To help increase public safety and address public concern, corrections departments nationwide have adopted some form of risk classification and assessment instrument for offenders who have been convicted of sex crimes (Richardson and Huebner 2006). Some of the most popular risk assessment instruments include the STATIC 99, RRASOR, MnSOST, SORAG, and ASRS (Richardson and Huebner 2006; …

Insights And Blind Spots: A Qualitative Analysis Of Risk In Psychiatric Security Review Board Hearings, Abby Kealani Balfour
Insights And Blind Spots: A Qualitative Analysis Of Risk In Psychiatric Security Review Board Hearings, Abby Kealani Balfour
Dissertations and Theses
The prevalence and consequences of the insanity plea, titled "guilty except for insanity" in the State of Oregon, are fraught with misconceptions. The use of the plea requires a complex set of interactions between the mental health and criminal justice systems, and comes with severe costs for people who use it. Most of the research on the psychological aspects of the insanity plea emphasizes empirical validity in the form of risk assessment instruments and/or the biomedical model with its focus on disease and illness. This thesis analyzes from community psychology and critical theory perspectives the decision process of hearings held …
Predicting Stock Market Using Online Communities Raw Web Traffic Streams, Pierpaolo Dondio
Predicting Stock Market Using Online Communities Raw Web Traffic Streams, Pierpaolo Dondio
Articles
This paper investigates the predictive power of online communities traffic in regard to stock prices. Using the largest dataset to date, spanning 8 years and almost the complete set of SP500 stocks, we analyze the predictive power of raw unstructured traffic by filtering stock daily returns with traffic features. Our results partially challenge the assumption that raw traffic simply trails stock prices, as expected from a noisy signal without the sentiment direction. Raw traffic is shown to predict prices with statistical significance but with small economic impact. Anyway, this impact rises to moderate under the following conditions: 3 to 7 …
College Departure: Exploring Student Aid Effects On Multiple Mobility Patterns From Four-Year Institutions, Dongbin Kim, Argun Saatcioglu, Amy Neufeld
College Departure: Exploring Student Aid Effects On Multiple Mobility Patterns From Four-Year Institutions, Dongbin Kim, Argun Saatcioglu, Amy Neufeld
Journal of Student Financial Aid
College departure involves multiple mobility patterns that include lateral transfer (from a four-year to another four-year institution), reverse transfer (from a four-year to a two-year institution), and stop out (taking time out of higher education altogether). This study addresses how financial aid influences the likelihood of such mobility patterns for minority and low-income students. Utilizing data from the Education Longitudinal Survey of 2002, this study found that the effects of financial aid on multiple mobility patterns are similar across students of different income groups. By contrast, non-white students benefit significantly from financial aid, particularly from low-burden aid options (e.g., tuition …
Impact Of Post-Synthesis Modification Of Nanoporous Organic Frameworks On Selective Carbon Dioxide Capture, Timur İslamoğlu
Impact Of Post-Synthesis Modification Of Nanoporous Organic Frameworks On Selective Carbon Dioxide Capture, Timur İslamoğlu
Theses and Dissertations
Porous organic polymers containing nitrogen-rich building units are among the most promising materials for selective CO2 capture and separation applications that impact the environment and the quality of methane and hydrogen fuels. The work described herein describes post-synthesis modification of Nanoporous Organic Frameworks (NPOFs) and its impact on gas storage and selective CO2 capture. The synthesis of NPOF-4 was accomplished via a catalysed cyclotrimerization reaction of 1,3,5,7-tetrakis(4-acetylphenyl)adamantane in Ethanol/Xylenes mixture using SiCl4 as a catalyst. NPOF-4 is microporous and has high surface area (SABET = 1249 m2 g-1). Post-synthesis modification of NPOF-4 by nitration afforded (NPOF-4-NO2) and subsequent reduction resulted …

Life History Analysis Of James River Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser Oxyrinchus Oxyrinchus) With Implications For Management And Recovery Of The Species, Matthew Balazik
Theses and Dissertations
Sturgeon species (family Acipenseridae) are threatened globally due to habitat destruction, pollution, and overfishing. The Atlantic sturgeon Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus was listed as a federally endangered species in 2012. Atlantic sturgeon have a complex life history that utilizes a wide range of habitats. Timing of life history varies in different areas requiring each population to be studied. Very little work has been published on Atlantic sturgeon reproduction in the James River, Virginia. To aid the recovery of James River Atlantic sturgeon, aspects of life history need to be addressed. To increase understanding of Atlantic sturgeon life history a length at …

Nonlinear Response Prediction Of Spar Platform Using Artificial Neural Network / Md. Alhaz Uddin, Uddin Md. Alhaz
Nonlinear Response Prediction Of Spar Platform Using Artificial Neural Network / Md. Alhaz Uddin, Uddin Md. Alhaz
Student Works (2010-2019)
Due to global energy demand, offshore industries are moving towards deep and ultra-deep waters for oil and gas exploration in ocean environment. Floating offshore structures such as spar platform is considered to be the most economic and suitable offshore structure in deep water regions. During oil and gas exploration, floating offshore structures may sometimes be affected by critical environmental forces. Quick decision must be taken either to continue or to stop production, on the basis of response prediction of offshore structures under forecasted environmental conditions. Finite Element Method (FEM) is an important technique to predict the response of offshore structures …

Soil Temperature Of The Alluvial Plain And The Western Renaissance Of Dhi Qar Governorate And Its Agricultural Impact, Satar Abdullah Rahim
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Soil temperature is one of its physical properties, and it has a direct impact on determining the type of various biological processes that occur within the soil. It also affects the ability of gas exchange between the atmosphere and the soil, and largely determines the amount of moisture present in the soil, and the quantity and quality of decomposed organic residues in it. It also controls some of the course of chemical reactions that occur in the soil, which determines the amount of nutrients released and available to growing plants. This impact is directly and indirectly reflected on the rest …
Doublesex Target Genes In The Red Flour Beetle, Tribolium Castaneum, Jayendra Nath Shukla, Subba Reddy Palli
Doublesex Target Genes In The Red Flour Beetle, Tribolium Castaneum, Jayendra Nath Shukla, Subba Reddy Palli
Entomology Faculty Publications
Sex determination cascade in insects terminates with the production of sex-specific protein, Doublesex (Dsx). We identified the dsx homolog (Tcdsx) in Tribolium castaneum. The pre-mRNA of Tcdsx is sex-specifically spliced into three female (Tcdsxf1, Tcdsxf2 and Tcdsxf3) and one male-specific (Tcdsxm) isoforms. Cis-regulatory elements potentially involved in sex-specific splicing of the Tcdsx pre-mRNA were identified in the female-specific exon and the adjoining intronic sequences. All the three female-specific TcDsx proteins share common OD1 and OD2 domains and differ in their C-terminal sequences. Knockdown of Tcdsx resulted in a reduction in the oocyte development, egg production and hatching of eggs laid. …

Our libraries are full of studies and research that focus on the history of women and their roles in various political, administrative, cultural, religious and other fields. However, these studies have focused on specific historical eras and periods, while we find that other periods lack such studies. Here came the researcher's interest in presenting this study about a female figure who had a prominent political impact on Buwayhid history, and to be the beginning of other women's studies that the researcher intends to undertake to highlight the impact of women in historical periods that have not received a sufficient share …
