Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

Essentially, this paper aims at searching phases of proportion and some of the rhetorical characteristics in the Koran verses which refer to God's Throne. This is in accordance with the fact that the Holy Koran is God's word which comes harmoniously to which falsehood knows no way. Types of proportion in a single verse are also induced as the comer-stone in the arch of the wondrous nature of the Koran and its eloquence, showing their technical and aesthetic dimensions tkough perceiving ways of association among these types, studying, analyzing.

Mercy Rule And My Progress Through The Thesis Process, Andrew Kuhn Dec 2012

Mercy Rule And My Progress Through The Thesis Process, Andrew Kuhn

Theses

Mercy Rule and My Progress Through the Thesis Process is a feature-length script and dissertation analyzing, among other things, the challenges during the process, the criticisms voiced after the reading, and the overall experience. Mercy Rule is a comedy about a young baseball player named Kevin Jasper who takes up little league coaching after being kicked off his team for fighting. Through coaching Kevin finds joy and comes to grips with his athletic mortality. In 2010 the story proposal for Mercy Rule was a script about two outlaw umpires, an undeveloped idea my brother and I had been discussing during …

Fokker-Planck Equation Application To Analysis Of A Simplified Wind Turbine Model, Keyou Wang, Mariesa L. Crow Dec 2012

Fokker-Planck Equation Application To Analysis Of A Simplified Wind Turbine Model, Keyou Wang, Mariesa L. Crow

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper presents a new method to evaluate the stochastic dynamic model of the wind turbine system using stochastic differential equations (SDE). the wind speed is described by the Rayleigh distribution which is constructed as the stationary solution of a one-dimensional nonlinear SDE. the dynamic model of the wind turbine system can be combined with this SDE of wind speed to expand to multi-dimensional stochastic differential equations. the time evolution of the probability density function of the system is described by the Fokker-Planck equation (FPE) which can be derived from the corresponding stochastic differential equations. the procedure is illustrated using …

Ferroelectric Instability Under Screened Coulomb Interactions, Yong Wang, Xiaohui Liu, John D. Burton, Sitaram S. Jaswal, Evgeny Y. Tsymbal Dec 2012

Ferroelectric Instability Under Screened Coulomb Interactions, Yong Wang, Xiaohui Liu, John D. Burton, Sitaram S. Jaswal, Evgeny Y. Tsymbal

Evgeny Tsymbal Publications

We explore the effect of charge carrier doping on ferroelectricity using density functional calculations and phenomenological modeling. By considering a prototypical ferroelectric material, BaTiO3, we demonstrate that ferroelectric displacements are sustained up to the critical concentration of 0.11 electron per unit cell volume. This result is consistent with experimental observations and reveals that the ferroelectric phase and conductivity can coexist. Our investigations show that the ferroelectric instability requires only a short-range portion of the Coulomb force with an interaction range of the order of the lattice constant. These results provide a new insight into the origin of ferroelectricity …

The Effects Of Freestream Turbulence On Serpentine Diffuser Distortion Patterns, Jesse Scott Johnson Dec 2012

The Effects Of Freestream Turbulence On Serpentine Diffuser Distortion Patterns, Jesse Scott Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

Serpentine diffusers have become a common feature in modern aircraft as they allow for certain benefits that are impossible with a traditional linear configuration. With the benefits, however, come certain disadvantages, namely flow distortions that reduce engine efficiency and decrease engine surge stability margins. These distortions are now being researched comprehensively to determine solutions for mitigating the adverse effects associated with them. This study investigates how varying the freestream turbulence intensity of the flow entering a serpentine diffuser affects the distortion patterns that are produced by the diffuser. Experiments were performed with a model serpentine diffuser on the Annular Cascade …

From Linkage To Gwas: A Multifaceted Exploration Of The Genetic Risk For Alcohol Dependence, Amy Adkins Dec 2012

From Linkage To Gwas: A Multifaceted Exploration Of The Genetic Risk For Alcohol Dependence, Amy Adkins

Theses and Dissertations

Family, twin and adoption studies consistently suggest that genetic factors strongly influence the risk for alcohol dependence (AD). Although the literature supports the role of genetics in AD, identification of specific genes contributing to the etiology of AD has proven difficult. These difficulties are due in part to the complex set of risk factors contributing to the development of AD. These risk factors include comorbidities with other clinical diagnoses and behavioral phenotypes (e.g., major depression), physiological differences that contribute to the differences between people in their level of response to ethanol (e.g., initial sensitivity) and finally the large number of …

Adolescent Dating Violence Prevention And Intervention In A Community Setting: Perspectives Of Young Adults And Professionals, Donna S. Martsolf, Crystal Colbert, Claire B. Drauker Dec 2012

Adolescent Dating Violence Prevention And Intervention In A Community Setting: Perspectives Of Young Adults And Professionals, Donna S. Martsolf, Crystal Colbert, Claire B. Drauker

The Qualitative Report

Adolescent dating violence (ADV) is a significant community problem. In this study, we examine the perspectives of two groups (young adults who experienced ADV as teens and professionals who work with teens) on ADV prevention/intervention in a community context. We interviewed 88 young adults and 20 professionals. Our research team used Thorne’s (2008) interpretive description methods to determine participants’ perspectives on community views on ADV, community ADV prevention/intervention programs, and ideal ADV prevention/intervention strategies. Participants perceived most communities as being blind to ADV. They perceived prevention programs as unavailable, inappropriate, or impersonal. Young adults indicated that professionals should use a …

Teachers’ Perceptions Of A Multiple High-Risk Behavior Prevention Program And Delivery Of Universal Programming, Crystal Collier, Richard C. Henriksen Jr. Dec 2012

Teachers’ Perceptions Of A Multiple High-Risk Behavior Prevention Program And Delivery Of Universal Programming, Crystal Collier, Richard C. Henriksen Jr.

The Qualitative Report

Much of the success of high-risk behavior prevention programs rests with teachers who deliver the curriculum however; few studies have investigated teachers' perceptions of program implementation. The objective of this phenomenological study was to answer the question, “What are the experiences of teachers who are asked to be involved in the implementation process when their school adopts a multiple high-risk behavior prevention program”? Participants included 10 teachers at a local, private high school in the Southern United States. Five themes emerged: (a) lack of consistent historical effort, (b) need for program, (c) positive but tentative perceptions, (d) challenges with implementation, …
