Is It The Exception Or The Rule? Daily Co-Occurrence Of Physical, Sexual, And Psychological Partner Violence In A 90-Day Study Of Substance-Using, Community Women, Howard A. Tennen

UCHC Articles - Research

Abstract

Objective

This study aims to describe the daily co-occurrence of physical, sexual, and psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) among substance-using, community-based women currently experiencing IPV.

Methods

A micro-longitudinal study design was used to collect data daily from 49 women for 90 days.

Results

On the majority of days (62%), no IPV occurred; 27% of days were characterized by psychological IPV alone, followed by the co-occurrence of psychological and physical IPV (6% of IPV days). Results of person-level analyses showed comparable sized correlations between the proportion of days with physical and sexual IPV and the proportion of days with physical …

2-Aminothiazoline-4-carboxylic acid (ATCA) was intravenously injected to rats in order to investigate its plasma distribution. ATCA was extracted from plasma samples by solid phase extraction (SPE) and molecularly imprinted polymer stir bar sorption extraction (MIP-SBSE). Detection and quantification of ATCA were achieved by using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). It was found that the intravenously injected ATCA concentration quickly decreased to half within 2.5 h in the rat system. However, after 2.5 h, the concentration of ATCA in plasma stayed constant at least 5 folds above the endogenous ATCA level for more then 48 h. This finding can be used …

Journal Articles: Psychiatry

OBJECTIVE: This study tested whether positive response to short-term treatment for adolescent major depressive disorder (MDD) would have the secondary benefit of preventing subsequent alcohol use disorders (AUD) or substance use disorders (SUD).

METHOD: For 5 years, we followed 192 adolescents (56.2% female; 20.8% minority) who had participated in the Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study (TADS; TADS Team, 2004) and who had no prior diagnoses of AUD or SUD. TADS initial treatments were cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), fluoxetine alone (FLX), the combination of CBT and FLX (COMB), or clinical management with pill placebo (PBO). We used both the original …

Child And Youth Victimization Known To Police, School, And Medical Authorities., David Finkelhor, Richard Ormrod, Heather Turner, Sherry L. Hamby

Crimes Against Children Research Center

Presents the survey results from the National Survey of Children's Exposure to Violence (NatSCEV) regarding authorities' knowledge of victimization incidents involving children and youth, particularly police, school, and medical authorities. Compared with a similar study in the early 1990s, the survey found that authorities were more likely to know about NatSCEV survey participants' exposure to violence, which may reflect efforts by authorities, criminal justice and child protection agencies, and advocates to promote disclosure. This increase in disclosure is also consistent with the decrease in child victimizations during the last two decades. The survey found that 46 percent of children who …

Impact Of Parental Separation Preceded By Parental Conflict On The Propensity For Youth Criminality, Casimir Bannis

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Parental separation preceded by parental conflict increased the propensity for youth criminality as the pre-separation conflict engenders an environment which hampers effective paternal and maternal care for children are carried over into post-separation life. The social development theory was used to explain the significance of socialization and the extent and quality of children's relationships with their external environment as factors important to their participation in anti-social behaviors, noting that, an overlapping of pro and anti-social paths are the constructors of children's socialization capabilities. The secondary data collected on this research topic, concluded that a family environment marred by issues consequential …
