Since soil-borne bacteria represent the world's greatest source of biological diversity, the diversity of culturable bacteria associated with soil from three different regions of the Anchorage Island on the Antarctic Peninsula was investigated. Soil samples analysed included Sandy coarse soil (AI1), Black & fine soil (AI2) and High nutrient (AI3). A total of 196 bacteria were isolated under aerobic conditions at 4°C using Nutrient agar as medium. The isolates were grouped using morphology and amplified rRNA gene restriction analysis fingerprinting and identified by partial sequencing of 16S rRNA gene. Four Ganoderic acids (á, B, C1 H) were studied using molecular docking approach. Both reverse molecular docking and molecular docking were combined to elucidate suitable target(s) for these Ganoderic acids. Outcomes from molecular docking were compared and correlated to experimental data. Compound with the best performance in both molecular docking and correlation analysis were further studied by looking at its molecular interaction with potential target. 1HVR (a type of HIV-1 protease) and Ganoderic acid B performed better in cluster analysis of molecular docking compared to other compounds. In this study, antioxidants extracted, using methanol and dichloromethane, from Lentinus squarrosulus (Mont.) mycelium grown on rice, maize and soya bean supplemented with nitrogen sources (malt extract, yeast extract and peptone) at various concentrations were compared with mycelium grown in liquid Glucose-Yeast-Malt-peptone (GYMP). The antioxidant capacity of the extracts were then analyzed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging abilities and inhibition of lipid peroxidation. The total phenol content (TPC) of the extracts was also measured using the Folin–Ciocalteu method. Chemical modifications of Bacillus licheniformis �–amylase (BLA) were carried out using 100 molar excess of succinic anhydride over protein, 0.66 M potassium cyanate and 0.46 M O-methylisourea under standard conditions to prepare different modified derivatives. The percentage of modification as determined by TNBSA reaction method was found to be 42% for succinylated (S42), 81% for carbamylated (C81) and 88% for guanidinated (G88) BLA derivatives. These modified preparations were checked for their size and charge homogeneity by gel chromatography on Sephacryl S-200 HR column and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The genus Pleurotus comprises some of the most popular edible mushrooms due to their favourable organoleptic and medicinal properties, vigorous growth and undemanding cultivation conditions. Pleurotus species contain a variety of secondary metabolites including various phenolic compounds which have been said to act as excellent antioxidants and possess antidiabetic activity. The antioxidant activity of mycelial extract of nine Pleurotus species and antidiabetic activity for Pleurotus citrinopileatus was investigated. This research project is focused on the synthesis and characterization of copper(II) mixed carboxylates of general formula, [Cu2(RCOO)n(R’COO)4-n)], where R = p-H2NC6H4, R’ = CH3(CH2)14, and n = 1–3. These mixed carboxylates were specially designed to be low-temperature and thermally stable magnetic and redox-active metallomesogens. A total of six binuclear copper(II) mixed-carboxylates were successfully prepared by the one-pot reaction, and their thermal, metallomesogenic, magnetic and redox properties reported. Nusyuz bukan hanya berlaku di pihak isteri, malah boleh juga berlaku di pihak suami. Namun, kajian ini memfokuskan nusyuz di pihak isteri. Keingkaran untuk taat dan pengabaian tanggungjawab adalah elemen-elemen yang menjurus kepada pensabitan isteri nusyuz di samping keengganan melaksanakan perintah suami yang tidak bertentangan dengan syarak. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are natural biodegradable and biocompatible plastic materials which potentially have a wide range of applications. The potential commercial value of these polyesters prompts a demand for intensive studies to maximise their production and applications. Generally, PHAs are produced and accumulated intracellular by numerous bacteria as energy storage. The accumulation of medium-chain-length (mcl) PHA in bacteria is dependent on the type of carbon source available to the bacteria.
