Chakra Self-Care: A Heuristic Exploration, Alexandra L. Starrett Dec 2010

Chakra Self-Care: A Heuristic Exploration, Alexandra L. Starrett

Creative Arts Therapies Theses

Therapists are vulnerable to a number of stressors that may affect them professionally and personally. It is critical that they engage in appropriate self-care activities and develop selfawareness to not only avoid boredom and burnout, but to maintain motivation and creativity in their work. The purpose of this study was to explore the use of the chakra system as a dance/movement therapist’s clinical self-care technique. The research was heuristic and transpersonal, and specifically aimed to discover what effects a consistent self-care tool focusing on one’s chakra system might have on one’s presence and work as a clinician/therapist. The research utilized …

A Study Of Outcomes-Oriented Student Reflection During Internship: The Integrated, Coordinated, And Reflection Based Model Of Learning And Experiential Education, James E. Griffin Jr, Gregory F. Lorenz, David Mitchell

University Office Publications

Student reflection in experiential education is recognized as a valuable tool in learning and development (Moon, 2006). InCoRe, an acronym for integration, coordination and reflection, is a model for reflective teaching and learning intended to encourage student reflection prior to, during, and after an internship experience. InCoRe operates through the strategic integration of experiential education within a program of study, the coordination of student advising between faculty and the administrators and staff members who manage and support experiential education and student-based reflection oriented toward fulfillment of student learning outcomes. The model employs several theoretical constructs including a derivative of Bruner’s …

Sustainability Principles: A Review And Directions, Paul Shrivastava, Stephanie Berger Dec 2010

Sustainability Principles: A Review And Directions, Paul Shrivastava, Stephanie Berger

Organization Management Journal

In 1987 the publication of Our Common Future by the United Nations’ World Commission on Environment and Development proposed the concept of sustainable development as an ideal for the global economy and corporations. In seeking sustainable economic growth and sustainability at the enterprise level, a number of “sustainability principles” or codes of conduct emerged. A great deal of intellectual effort, managerial resources, and publicity are devoted to these principles. While these principles have created some dialogue, and helped to lead some organizations in the direction of sustainability, their practical effectiveness remains uncertain. This paper provides an overview of sustainability principles …

Legislative And Regulatory Recommendations To Allow Home-Processing Of Low-Risk Foods In Mississippi, Harvard Law School Mississippi Delta Project

Delta Directions: Publications

With the recent growth in farmers markets and the demand for local, fresh foods there has been a push to allow individuals to produce and sell foods made in their homes. This report will explain why Mississippi should follow the trend set by over 30 states to allow in-home production and sale of certain low-risk or non-potentially hazardous foods like baked goods, jams, jellies, and dried herbs. This report will lay out current Mississippi law regarding the processing of such non-potentially hazardous foods in home kitchens; compare Mississippi law to the laws employed in other states; and make recommendations for …

The Modulation Of Trpm7 Currents By Nafamostat Mesilate Depends Directly Upon Extracellular Concentrations Of Divalent Cations, Xuanmao Chen, Tomohiro Numata, Minghua Li, Yasuo Mori, Beverley A. Orser, Michael F. Jackson, Zhi-Gang Xiong, John F. Macdonald

Molecular, Cellular & Biomedical Sciences

Concentrations of extracellular divalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+) fall substantially during intensive synaptic transmission as well as during some pathophysiological conditions such as epilepsy and brain ischemia. Here we report that a synthetic serine protease inhibitor, nafamostat mesylate (NM), and several of its analogues, block recombinant TRPM7 currents expressed in HEK293T cells in inverse relationship to the concentration of extracellular divalent cations. Lowering extracellular Ca2+ and Mg2+ also evokes a divalent-sensitive non-selective cation current that is mediated by TRPM7 expression in hippocampal neurons. In cultured hippocampal neurons, NM blocked these TRPM7-mediated currents with an apparent affinity of 27 μM, as …

Sustainable Climate Control For Mid-Rise Office Building In The Salt Lake Valley, Philip M. Coleman

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

This report examines the sustainability of Trane’s EarthWiseTM climate control systems in the Salt Lake Valley (and the United States Mountain West in general). A simulation is performed to determine the best climate control system for a LEED Silver, 5-story tenant office building. This new building is a duplication of a pre-existing building. The climate control system installed at the preexisting building is used as a baseline against which three (3) alternative systems are compared. The social, ecological, and economic impact of each alternative is examined to determine which is the most sustainable. Since the baseline system is a proven …

The Bonded Labor System In Nepal: Exploring Halia And Kamaiya Children’S Life-Worlds, Birendra R. Giri Dec 2010

The Bonded Labor System In Nepal: Exploring Halia And Kamaiya Children’S Life-Worlds, Birendra R. Giri

HIMALAYA, the Journal of the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies

Nepal is believed to have thousands of bonded laborers under the so-called haliya and kamaiya systems. The latter was outlawed in 2000 and the former in 2008, following a widespread campaign by local organisations, including the bonded laborers themselves. While state intervention has reportedly discouraged adults from forging an annual haliya or kamaiya contract, even the so-called “systematic rehabilitation” of “freed” kamaiya families has not been entirely successful in offering long-term livelihood alternatives. As a result, patchy reports suggest that children are increasingly taking the jobs done by their parents or elders. This study, which focuses on Musahar and Tharu …
