Pengaruh Status Gizi Anak Usia Di Bawah Lima Tahun Terhadap Nilai Belajar Verbal Dan Numerik, R. Djarot Darsono Wahyu Hartanto, Nasrin Kodim Feb 2009

Pengaruh Status Gizi Anak Usia Di Bawah Lima Tahun Terhadap Nilai Belajar Verbal Dan Numerik, R. Djarot Darsono Wahyu Hartanto, Nasrin Kodim

Kesmas

Semakin dini seorang anak menderita gizi kurang, semakin besar risiko …

Understanding The Relationship Between Women;S Participation And Health In Uttar Pradesh, India, Candace Hillary Feldman Feb 2009

Understanding The Relationship Between Women;S Participation And Health In Uttar Pradesh, India, Candace Hillary Feldman

Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library

The purpose of this qualitative research study was to better understand perceptions of the limitations, motivations and influence of women's political participation on the health of a community in northern India. This study was nested within a larger community-based participatory neonatal health intervention led by the Saksham study group. Eighteen small focus groups were held in the rural villages of Shivgarh, separated based on gender, age category, and parent study intervention status. Scenarios were presented on culturally sensitive, locally relevant topics surrounding the concept of women's health agency, defined generally as a woman's ability to advocate for better health. Qualitative …

Alfalfa As A Grazing Crop, Bill Payne Feb 2009

Alfalfa As A Grazing Crop, Bill Payne

Kentucky Alfalfa and Stored Forage Conference

Planning a “Forage Sequence” implies that a stockman provides nutritious and palatable forage crops for grazing for as many days of the year possible. Cool season perennial grasses and legumes give Kentucky forage growers an competitive advantage over those in many other states. That advantage declines during the heat of our summers, however. Providing a solution to our “Summer Slump” is a challenge to stockmen throughout the South. This “Summer Slump” is the result of low yield of cool season forages during the heat and drier conditions of July, August and September. Another factor hindering livestock gains is the fescue …

Alfalfa Hay For Horses: Myths Vs. Reality, Laurie Lawrence Feb 2009

Alfalfa Hay For Horses: Myths Vs. Reality, Laurie Lawrence

Kentucky Alfalfa and Stored Forage Conference

How Much Hay Does A Horse Need?

A horse owner once described their Quarter Horse gelding as “a hole in the stall that I throw hay into”! This description is certainly accurate… a 1200 lb gelding used for light recreational riding will consume about 700 lbs of hay per month during the winter in Kentucky. If the horse is kept in a place with minimal pasture, yearly hay consumption will be about 4 tons. Restricting hay intake can lead to digestive disturbances and behavior problems, so it is recommended that most horses be allowed access to 1.5 – 2.0 lbs …

Landscape Genomics And Biased Fst Approaches Reveal Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms Under Selection In Goat Breeds Of North-East Mediterranean, Lorraine Pariset, Stephane Joost, Paolo Ajmone Marsan, Alessio Valentini, Econogene Consortium Feb 2009

Landscape Genomics And Biased Fst Approaches Reveal Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms Under Selection In Goat Breeds Of North-East Mediterranean, Lorraine Pariset, Stephane Joost, Paolo Ajmone Marsan, Alessio Valentini, Econogene Consortium

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

Background: In this study we compare outlier loci detected using a Fst based method with those identified by a recently described method based on spatial analysis (SAM). We tested a panel of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) previously genotyped in individuals of goat breeds of southern areas of the Mediterranean basin (Italy, Greece and Albania). We evaluate how the SAM method performs with SNPs, which are increasingly employed due to their high number, low cost and easy of scoring.

Results: The combined use of the two outlier detection approaches, never tested before using SNP polymorphisms, resulted in the …
