The Rise Of Viral Marketing Through The New Media Of Social Media, Rebecca J. Larson
The Rise Of Viral Marketing Through The New Media Of Social Media, Rebecca J. Larson
Faculty Publications and Presentations
This paper fully addresses the rationale of the need for corporate presence in social media, the value that can be derived from a well-developed viral marketing campaign, strategies for entry into this developing new media segment, and an analysis of why entry into social media is crucial for corporate success and brand management. There are marked advantages to the embracing of new formats for consumer interaction: “brands increase consumer loyalty by involving their customers in their decision-making processes, and the research provides substantial profiling intelligence as a basis for sales and marketing decisions” (Online communities, 2009, p. 13). Social media …

Communication between insulin target tissues and beta-cells initiate compensatory responses which increase insulin production. Correlated changes, in gene expression between tissues, can provide evidence for such intercellular communication. We profiled gene expression studies in Type 2 diabetic subjects to unveil the mechanistic factors involved. Our results showed that genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and amino acid metabolism pathways, glycan of biosynthesis, metabolism of cofactors and vitamin pathways, ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, signal transduction pathways, neuroactive ligand receptor interaction were upregulated in diabetes compared to healthy subjects. In contrast, genes involved in cell adhesion, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, insulin signaling, PPAR signaling pathways were …

The Use Of Relational, Social, And Overt Aggression In Overtly-Aggressive And Non-Overtly-Aggressive Females, Leigh Ann Comstock
The Use Of Relational, Social, And Overt Aggression In Overtly-Aggressive And Non-Overtly-Aggressive Females, Leigh Ann Comstock
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this study, the researcher sought to examine whether differences existed in the use of relational, social, and overt aggression among previously-identified-overtly-aggressive and non-overtly-aggressive female adolescents. Specifically, explored were the relationships among types of aggression (overtly-aggressive and non-overtly-aggressive), age level (middle or high school), and cultural background/ethnicity (Caucasian or non-Caucasian), and the self-reported use of relational aggression, social aggression, and overt aggression. Results revealed that Caucasian, non-overtly-aggressive middle and high school girls use relational aggression more often than Caucasian, overtly-aggressive middle and high school girls, respectively. Similarly, Caucasian, non-overtly-aggressive middle school girls use social aggression more often than Caucasian, overtly-aggressive …

The recurrence of certain cancers remains quite high due to either incomplete surgical removal of the primary tumor or the presence of small metastases that are invisible to the surgeon. Near infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging might improve surgical outcomes by providing sensitive, specific, and real-time visualization of normal and diseased tissues if agents can be found that discriminate between normal and diseased tissue and define tumor margins. We have developed a new approach for revealing tumor borders by using NIR fluorescently labeled pH Low Insertion Peptide (pHLIP) and have created a computational program for the quantitative assessment of tumor boundaries. …

Solid tumors often develop an acidic environment due to the Warburg effect. The effectiveness of diagnosis and therapy may therefore be enhanced by the design and use of pH-sensitive agents that target acidic tumors. Recently, a novel technology was introduced to target acidic tumors using pH low insertion peptide (pHLIP), a peptide that inserts across cell membranes as an α-helix when the extracellular pH (pHe) is acidic. In this study, we expanded the application of the pHLIP technology to include positron emission tomography imaging of the acidic environment in prostate tumors using 64Cu conjugated to the pHLIP …

The Protective Effects Of Mucuna Pruriens Seed Extract Against Histopathological Changes Induced By Malayan Cobra (Naja Sputatrix) Venom In Rats, Shin Yee Fung, N.H. Tan, S.H. Liew, S.M. Sim, J.C. Aguiyi
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Seed of Mucuna pruriens (Velvet beans) has been prescribed by traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria as a prophylactic oral antisnake remedy. In the present studies, we investigated the protective effects of M. pruriens seed extract (MPE) against histopathological changes induced by intravenous injection of Naja sputatrix (Malayan cobra) venom in rats pretreated with the seed extract. Examination by light microscope revealed that the venom induced histopathological changes in heart and blood vessels in liver, but no effect on brain, lung, kidney and spleen. The induced changes were prevented by pretreatment of the rats with MPE. Our results suggest that MPE …

Multiplex Pcr For Simultaneous Detection Of Virulence Genes In Escherichia Coli, Kwai Lin Thong, Ke Xin Yu
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli infection is a major cause of public health problems in developing countries. In view of the deficits and limitations of conventional methods of detecting the virulence determinants, a multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay was optimized and developed to provide an effective, rapid and specific diagnostic tool to simultaneously detect virulence genes such as heatstable toxin 1 (ST1), heat-labile toxin 1 (LT1), heat-labile toxin 2 (LT2), verotoxin1 (VT1), verotoxin 2 (VT2) and attachment and effacement (eaeA) in pathogenic E. coli. Five sets of primers targeting these six virulence genes were optimized by using postitive control …

Sample Preparation Methods For Pesticides Analysis In Food Matrices And Environmental Samples By Chromatography-Based Techniques: A Review, E. Sobhanzadeh, N.K.A. Bakar, M.R. Abas, K. Nemati
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Much attention has been made in pesticide analysis to improve agricultural productivity and control these compounds in food and environmental samples. Different methods have been applied in pesticide analysis, among these; methods based on chromatographic separation with mass spectrometric detection have been extremely useful methods for determination of pesticide residues. Despite employing of powerful instrumental techniques, the risk of interference increases with the complexity of the matrix studied, so sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis is necessary. This article reviews the analytical characteristics of the different sample preparation methods for determination of pesticide residues in food and environmental samples and …

Objective: To compare the clinical soft tissue responses around implant tooth-supported 3-unit bridges using tapered abutments with those using butt-joint abutments. Methods: In a split-mouth design study, 8 mm Ankylos (Dentsply Friadent, Germany) implants were placed in the second mandibular molar region of 8 adult Macaca fascicularis monkeys about I month after extraction of all mandibular molars. After 3 months of submerged healing, 3-unit metal bridges were constructed. Clinical data was collected by the author who was blind to the abutment selections. Implants were clinically evaluated using Waite plaque index, sulcus bleeding index, probing pocket depth (PPD), probing attachment loss …
Intracanal Bisphosphonate Does Not Inhibit Replacement Resorption Associated With Delayed Replantation Of Monkey Incisors, Y.L. Thong, H.H. Messer, R.B. Zain, L.H. Saw, L.T. Yoong
Intracanal Bisphosphonate Does Not Inhibit Replacement Resorption Associated With Delayed Replantation Of Monkey Incisors, Y.L. Thong, H.H. Messer, R.B. Zain, L.H. Saw, L.T. Yoong
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Progressive replacement resorption following delayed replantation of avulsed teeth has proved to be an intractable clinical problem. A wide variety of therapeutic approaches have failed to result in the predictable arrest of resorption, with a good long-term prognosis for tooth survival. Bisphosphonates are used in the medical management of a range of bone disorders and topically applied bisphosphonate has been reported to inhibit root resorption in dogs. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a bisphosphonate (etidronate disodium) as an intracanal medicament in the root canals of avulsed monkey teeth, placed before replantation after 1 h of extraoral dry storage. Incisors …

Review Of Hard Road West: History And Geology Along The Gold Rush Trail By Keith Heyer Meldahl, Harmon D. Maher Jr.
Geography and Geology Faculty Publications
The dust jacket of Hard Road West promises familiar pleasures to John McPhee lovers, and so I picked the book up with great anticipation. McPhee’s works have greatly heightened the interest of writers and readers in the genre of creative nonfiction, and while for me, Keith Meldahl’s work does not quite reach McPhee’s stratospheric heights, for the right audience it is definitely a very good read.

Feeding The World, Challenges And Opportunities For The U.S. Beef Industry, Clint Peck
Range Beef Cow Symposium
Nobody ever said the beef business was going to be easy. But, who knew even 10 years ago how complicated it would be to raise a calf and get it sent off to market. Few could have predicted there would be raging debates over animal welfare and animal rights or “food vs. fuel.” Not long ago the most intense pressure facing cattle ranchers came while slugging it out for market share with chicken. For 20 years we lost so much market share to a burgeoning and highly-integrated poultry industry that we began shifting the nucleus of the U.S. beef industry …
Bull Management And Nutrition, Julie Walker, George Perry, Russ Daly, Ken Olson
Bull Management And Nutrition, Julie Walker, George Perry, Russ Daly, Ken Olson
Range Beef Cow Symposium
Proper management and nutrition of bulls is essential to ensure cow/calf producers maximize reproductive efficiency and genetic improvement of the calf crop. In addition, the herd bull influences overall herd fertility more than any other single animal, and loss of fertility by a bull can cause substantial loss to a potential calf crop. Each cow produces one calf per year; however, bulls should contribute to the calf crop by 25 to 60 times via siring 25 to 60 calves. Additionally, bulls influence their daughters’ production in the cow herd. Therefore, bull selection can be the most powerful method of genetic …
