The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between public school elementary and middle school teachers’ access to social capital (the independent variable) and their level of adoption of innovative technologies (the dependent variable). The study was founded on both diffusion of innovations and social network theory.

Study participants were teachers from three schools, sharing two buildings in a single school district. The initial phase of the research involved informal interviews with key policy makers from each school, conducted for the purpose of identifying innovative technologies present at each study site. We have used observations obtained as part of the Hubble Space Telescope/ACS Survey of Galactic globular clusters (GCs) to construct a color-magnitude diagram for the bulge cluster, NGC 6366. The luminosity function derived from those data extends to M _F606W ~ 9, or masses of ~0.3 M _☉. Unlike most GCs, the mass function peaks near the main-sequence turnoff with significantly fewer low-mass stars even after correction for completeness and mass segregation. Using a multimass King model, we extrapolate the global cluster behavior and find the global mass function to be poorly matched by a power law, with …

In the present study, we use microarray technology to investigate the expression patterns of 381 genes with known association to host immune responses. Hybridization targets were derived from previously characterized bovine cDNAs. A total of 576 reporters (473 sequence-validated cDNAs and 77 controls) were spotted onto glass slides in two sets of four replicates. Two color, comparative hybridizations across both mesenteric lymph node (MLN) and small intestine mucosa (SIM) RNA samples were done between animals with previously demonstrated phenotypic differences based on natural exposure to gastro- intestinal (GI) nematodes over a 6-month exposure period. Background: Obtaining synchronous cell populations is essential for cell-cycle studies. Methods such as serum withdrawal or use of drugs which block cells at specific points in the cell cycle alter cellular events upon re-entry into the cell cycle. Regulatory events occurring in early G1 phase of a new cell cycle could have been overlooked. Methodology and Findings: We used a robotic mitotic shake-off apparatus to select cells in late mitosis for genome-wide gene expression studies. Providing clinicians with a clearer understanding of how clients' recover over the entire course of therapy has important implications for referral and treatment strategies. The present study compares rates of change in 160 clients in group therapy with 6632 clients in individual therapy and 864 clients receiving both individual therapy and group therapy. Therapeutic outcomes were measured using the Outcome Questionnaire-45. Data was analyzed using Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM), also called Multi-Level Modeling (MLM), to produce recovery curves for clients in each group. The major purpose of this paper is the theoretical elucidation of the corrosion tube growth mechanism of mild steel occurred from the effect of pH value and oxygen corrosion at elevated pressure provided by Riggs et al. [6]. Based on the Nernst-Planck equation, continuity principle, Green's theorem, Stokes's theorem and the equation of Newton's second law of motion, the mechanism of corrosion tube development can be explained theoretically. The Bernoulli sum is contant at any cross-section of tubular corrosion product. The implication of the present results are theoretically enhanced the formation of corrosion tube mechanism.

A New Species Of Gobiid Fish,Luciogobius From Ryukyus, Japan(Teleostei: Gobiidae), I-Shiung Chen, Toshiyuki Suzuki, Hiroshi Senou

A new gobiid fish has been collected from Ryukyu Archipelagos of Japan. This species is described herein as a new species, Luciogobius ryukyuensis sp. nov. It is characterized by the following unique combination of features: (1) second dorsal fin rays: I/11 and anal fin rays I/11; (2) pectoral fin rays 16 and with one upper, very short free soft ray; (3) vertebral count 37; and (4) specific coloration: head and body with many rounded light creamy white spots above creamy yellow to yellowish brown background. A diagnostic key to all nominal species of Luciogobius from West Pacific are provided herein.

Sliding mode control is a nonlinear feedback control technique which provides good robustness against modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. However, as the uncertainties or disturbances increase, a greater control input is required, and the control signal may cause an undesirable chattering phenomenon. In general, the further the system trajectory from the origin, the more violent the chattering effect. However, as the trajectory moves closer to the origin, the degree of chattering gradually reduces. This paper presents a discrete-time output feedback sliding mode control to stabilize a class of linear uncertain systems in which the state is unavailable and no estimated state is required. The proposed sliding mode controller is derived to guarantee the existence of quasi-sliding mode by using output feedback only and the stability of overall closed-loop system is assured. This scheme ensures the robustness against parametric uncertainties and disturbances. Neither chattering phenomenon will occur nor the knowledge of upper bound of uncertainties is required. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed control methodology.

The complement C3a anaphylatoxin is a major molecular mediator of innate immunity. It is a potent activator of mast cells, basophils and eosinophils and causes smooth muscle contraction. Structurally, C3a is a relatively small protein (77 amino acids) comprising a N-terminal domain connected by 3 native disulfide bonds and a helical C-terminal segment. The structural stability of C3a has been investigated here using three different methods: Disulfide scrambling; Differential CD spectroscopy; and Reductive unfolding. Self-Determination Theory (SDT) research on goal pursuit indicates that people with intrinsic goal pursuits experience greater well-being than those with extrinsic goal pursuits. Three nutriments have been suggested by SDT that facilitate intrinsic motivation: autonomy, competence and relatedness. These nutriments, considered social conditions by SDT, have been understudied. However, recent SDT research and the small literature on goal support in relationships suggest that social aspects of goal pursuit are quite relevant and warrant further investigation. Holocene and Pleistocene grainstone deposits surrounding Ocean Cay located on the western margin of Great Bahama Bank provide key evidence for the comprehension of patterns, processes and petrophysical heterogeneity of carbonate grainstone shoals. In individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) who have disrupted communication between the brain and spinal cord, vibration may mimic functions formerly served by the lost or impaired supraspinal inputs resulting in more normal reflex modulation and improved walking function. Three experiments assessed the effects of vibration on spinal locomotor-generating circuitry, spinal reflex activity, and walking function. In Experiment 1, localized leg vibration was used to elicit air-stepping responses in the lower extremities.
