Sediment Transport Rate-Based Model For Rainfall-Induced Soil Erosion, Zhi Qiang Deng, João L.M.P. De Lima, Hoon Shin Jung

A one-dimensional mathematical model, termed sediment transport rate-based model, is developed for determining rainfall-induced soil erosion and sediment transport. The model is comprised of (1) the kinematic-wave equation for overland flow, (2) a transport rate-based advection equation for rainfall-induced soil erosion and sediment transport, and (3) a semi-Lagrangian algorithm for numerical solution of the soil erosion and sediment transport equation. A series of soil flume experiments under simulated rainfalls were conducted to simulate the overland flow and sediment transport and to test the sediment transport rate-based model. A preformed A356 alloys with thixotropic structure (designated SSM-A356) was systematically studied on mechanical properties in order to establish the database for further investigations in forming and heat treatment. Because of the specific microstructure and characteristics, the heat treatment conditions of SSM-A356 were explored through the observations of microstructure and the measurement of micro-hardness. In the investigation of heat treatment, it was observed that the eutectic silicon was refined and spheroidized which is unlikely for conventional processing. The mechanical testing results showed that the yield and ultimate tensile strength of SSM-A356 were respectively around 115% and 34% greater than those …

This paper presents an estimation of ground shaking intensity in the Ilan area caused by two scenario earthquakes. On the basis of seismic activity in the study area, the seismic zones, including Okinawa trough seismic zone section A and Suao-Hualien offshore seismic zone are established. The earthquakes occurring in these two zones are considered as the scenario earthquakes. The hundreds of boring logs are also collected and classified into three site classes as specified in the Taiwan Seismic Building Code. The Tiffanian Land-Mammal Age (Middle And Late Paleocene) In The Northern Bighorn Basin, Wyoming, Ross Secord

The Tiffanian North American land-mammal age is an informal biochronologic unit that spans 4.5 myr of the middle and late Paleocene. It is preceded and succeeded by the Torrejonian and Clarkforkian land-mammal ages, respectively. The Tiffanian was initially based on a small collection of mammals from southern Colorado, but faunas of Tiffanian age are now known throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The richest and most complete sequence of middle and late Tiffanian faunas known occurs in the northern Bighorn Basin. These faunas are the primary basis for regional Tiffanian biochronology. The Bighorn Basin sequence is also important because it preserves …
