Teaching Strategies For Students With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Trevor P. Higgins

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Teaching Strategies for Students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a multifaceted condition which can be influenced by multiple factors. Once the various aspects of the condition are acknowledged, the student with ADHD will be more understood by his or her teacher. Teaching students with ADHD can be a challenging task. A variety of strategies can be implemented by instructors to help alleviate the problems that can occur when there is a student with ADHD in the classroom. By the use of these techniques, students with ADHD will experience more academic success, and the teacher …

Nicarbazin Ovocontrol G Bait Reduces Hatchability Of Eggs Laid By Resident Canada Geese In Oregon, Kimberly Bynum, John D. Eisemann, Gary C. Weaver, Christi A. Yoder, Kathleen A. Fagerstone, Lowell A. Miller Apr 2007

Nicarbazin Ovocontrol G Bait Reduces Hatchability Of Eggs Laid By Resident Canada Geese In Oregon, Kimberly Bynum, John D. Eisemann, Gary C. Weaver, Christi A. Yoder, Kathleen A. Fagerstone, Lowell A. Miller

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Expanding populations of resident Canada geese (Branta canadensis) are resulting in increased conflicts with humans. Nonlethal and humane means are needed for managing Canada goose flocks at a variety of sites, including golf courses, industrial parks, government sites, and city parks. Decreased egg production and hatching are side effects of nicarbazin, a veterinary drug used to treat coccidiosis in chickens. Capitalizing on these effects, we developed nicarbazin as a reproductive inhibitor for Canada geese and conducted a field efficacy study. We recruited study sites in 2002 and 2003. Following laboratory testing, we conducted a field efficacy trial of …

Combined Use Of Oscillating Means And Ellipsometry To Determine Uncorrelated Effective Thickness And Optical Constants Of Material Deposited From A Fluid, John A. Woollam, James D. Welch Apr 2007

Combined Use Of Oscillating Means And Ellipsometry To Determine Uncorrelated Effective Thickness And Optical Constants Of Material Deposited From A Fluid, John A. Woollam, James D. Welch

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications

A combined ellipsometer and oscillator system applied to a chamber for containing fluid, and method of decorrelated determination of thickness and optical constants of depostable materials present in a fluid. In use the ellipsometer determines the product of thickness and optical constant, and the oscillator system changes frequency of oscillation proportional to the thickness of material deposited upon a surface of an element therein.

Bats Of Saint Martin, French West Indies/Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, Hugh H. Genoways, Scott C. Pedersen, Peter A. Larsen, Gary G. Kwiecinski, Jeffrey J. Huebschman

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers

Six species of bats have been previously reported from the Antillean island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten—Artibeus jamaicensis, Brachyphylla cavernarum, Molossus molossus, Tadarida brasiliensis, Noctilio leporinus, and Myotis nigricans nesopolus. Our field research reported herein documents an additional three species of bats from the island for the first time—Monophyllus plethodon, Ardops nichollsi, and Natalus stramineus. Re-examination of the single voucher of Myotis nigricans nesopolus has led us to exclude this species from the fauna of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. Based on our field research and the study of specimens housed in museum collections, we present information …

The Development Of A Gc/Ms Protocol For The Analysis Of Polysaccharides In Echinacea Purpurea, Michaela Knapp Apr 2007

The Development Of A Gc/Ms Protocol For The Analysis Of Polysaccharides In Echinacea Purpurea, Michaela Knapp

Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects

Echinacea purpurea is an herbal supplement used to reduce symptoms of common colds and flu-like illnesses. As of right now, it is not well understood what chemical components in the plant are immunologically active. The four main potentially immunologically active chemical components in E. purpurea are caffeic acid derivatives, alkamides, polyacetylenes, and polysaccharides. In this investigation, a protocol was developed in an attempt to identify polysaccharides present in Puritan’s Pride E. purpurea (aerial) “non-irradiated” herbal supplement First, an estimate of the crude total polysaccharide content in Puritan’s Pride and in a ChromaDex certified botanical standard (E. purpurea -powdered root) was …

Kinetic Studies Of 6-Halopurine Nucleoside In Snar Reactions; 6-(Azolyl, Alkylthio And Fluoro)-Purine Nucleosides As Substrates For Suzuki Reactions, Jiangqiong Liu Apr 2007

Kinetic Studies Of 6-Halopurine Nucleoside In Snar Reactions; 6-(Azolyl, Alkylthio And Fluoro)-Purine Nucleosides As Substrates For Suzuki Reactions, Jiangqiong Liu

Theses and Dissertations

In chapter 1, we describe development of a mild and efficient method for SNAr iodination of 6-chloropurine 2'-deoxynucleosides and nucleosides. Our studies demonstrate that 6-iodopurine nucleosides are excellent substrates for certain transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. In chapter 2, we describe synthesis of protected 6-fluoro, 6-chloro, 6-bromo and 6-sulfonylpurine nucleosides. Comparisons among 6-fluoro-, 6-chloro-, 6-bromo, 6-iodo and 6-sulfonylpurine nucleosides for SNAr reactions with various N, O and S nucleophiles were investigated. Our results demonstrate that the 6-fluoropurine nucleoside is the best substrate for SNAr reactions among the four 6-halopurine nucleosides with oxygen, sulfur and aliphatic amine nucleophiles, and also with an …

Genetic Structure In Natural Populations Of Barley/Cereal Yellow Dwarf Virus Isolates From Alaska, N.L. Robertson, Roy C. French Apr 2007

Genetic Structure In Natural Populations Of Barley/Cereal Yellow Dwarf Virus Isolates From Alaska, N.L. Robertson, Roy C. French

Department of Plant Pathology: Faculty Publications

The genetic structure of natural populations of Alaskan barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV)-PAV, BYDV-PAS, and cereal yellow dwarf virus (CYDV)- RPV from barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and oats (Avena sativa L.) in Alaska were analyzed between 2002 and 2004. PCR products spanning the viral coat protein gene of 187 isolates were cloned and sequenced. The majority (78%) were similar to BYDV-PAS, 19% were similar to CYDV-RPV, and only about 3% resembled BYDV-PAV. The CYDVRPV isolates clustered in three groups: 44, 17, and 39% resembled RPS-like CP from Mexico, resembled RPV-like CP from New York, or formed a unique …
