Students' Observations And Perceptions Of Teacher "Performances" In The Classroom, Leanne Dalley-Trim
Students' Observations And Perceptions Of Teacher "Performances" In The Classroom, Leanne Dalley-Trim
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
This paper documents students’ observations and perceptions of their respective teachers’ “performance” within the context of four year nine English classrooms. Drawing upon student interview data – and signalling researcher observations on occasion – it identifies key themes pertaining to the performances of the teachers. Specifically, it addresses the students’ perceptions of the qualities or characteristics of their teachers, and the sets of practices employed by the teachers; and the students’ views of the types of learning activities with which – and the classroom contexts within which – they were expected to engage. The paper identifies those teacher performances deemed …
Maximising Parent Involvement In The Pedestrian Safety Of 4 To 6 Year Old Children: Final Report, Child Health Promotion Research Centre
Maximising Parent Involvement In The Pedestrian Safety Of 4 To 6 Year Old Children: Final Report, Child Health Promotion Research Centre
Research outputs pre 2011
In Australia pedestrian injury is the leading specific cause of death among 5-9 year old children, and pedestrian injuries among 0-14 year old children in 1999-20000 were the second highest cause of hospitalisation. This mortality and morbidity can be attributed largely to unsafe road environments and under 10 year old children's significant deficits in cognitive and perceptual abilities when crossing roads. For all children under 10 years learning to cross the road needs to be taught by parents in the same way that children learn to swim i.e. under close adult supervision and in the 'real' environment where the skills …

Revealing Zion's Daughters: Women In Puritan Jurisprudence, Brett Jackson
Revealing Zion's Daughters: Women In Puritan Jurisprudence, Brett Jackson
The Gettysburg Historical Journal
The legal status of American women has consistently been portrayed as a linear progression flowing from a colonial jurisprudential repression and exclusion to a modern-day legal equity and a female influence within every aspect of justice. In this narrative of sequentially gained status, seventeenth-century Puritan law has stood as the exemplar of America’s most repressive jurisprudential treatment of women. However, when its characteristics are triangulated and its subordination of women is juxtaposed with its inclusion of a female voice, a new conception of America’s first legal system is seen. The notion of a linear progression is thus replaced with an …

Barium Strontium Titanate Films For Tunable Microwave And Acoustic Wave Applications, Venkataramanan Gurumurthy
Barium Strontium Titanate Films For Tunable Microwave And Acoustic Wave Applications, Venkataramanan Gurumurthy
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The composition-dependent Curie temperature and bias-dependant dielectric permittivity of Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) makes it very attractive for tunable application in the RF/Microwave regime. In this research work, the performance of BST varactors fabricated on the conventional Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si bottom electrode stack were compared with those fabricated using chemical vapor deposited Nanocrystalline Diamond (NCD) as the diffusion barrier layer instead of SiO2. The varactors fabricated on NCD films displayed much better symmetry in capacitance-voltage behavior and better overall quality factors than varactors fabricated on SiO2. The improvement in performance can be attributed to existence of stable interfaces in the devices fabricated …
Medicaid Risk Adjustment Model With Diagnosis And Pharmacy-Based Adjusters: Does It Work?, Yanen Li
Medicaid Risk Adjustment Model With Diagnosis And Pharmacy-Based Adjusters: Does It Work?, Yanen Li
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
National health expenditures will continue to grow faster than nominal gross domestic product (GDP) in the early 21st century (Heffler et al., 2002; Heffler et al., 2005). Increased Medicaid costs have spurred research to find reliable cost-saving methodologies (Kronick et al., 1996). The Medicaid administrations of some states have chosen risk adjustment as a methodology for savings (Tollen et al., 1998; Weiner et al., 1998), since it can reduce the financial burden of health care providers and distribute medical resources more efficiently. This dissertation presents a risk-adjustment model based on two types of health condition adjusters: diagnosis-based HCC adjusters and …
Voice Recognition System Based On Intra-Modal Fusion And Accent Classification, Srikanth Mangayyagari
Voice Recognition System Based On Intra-Modal Fusion And Accent Classification, Srikanth Mangayyagari
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Speaker or voice recognition is the task of automatically recognizing people from their speech signals. This technique makes it possible to use uttered speech to verify the speaker's identity and control access to secured services. Surveillance, counter-terrorism and homeland security department can collect voice data from telephone conversation without having to access to any other biometric dataset. In this type of scenario it would be beneficial if the confidence level of authentication is high. Other applicable areas include online transactions, database access services, information services, security control for confidential information areas, and remote access to computers. Speaker recognition systems, even though …

System Approach To Embedded System Design, Vikram Prabhakar Mehendale
System Approach To Embedded System Design, Vikram Prabhakar Mehendale
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
During this research, the concepts of Systems Engineering were applied to embedded system design. The objective was to apply the Systems Engineering methodology to the design of a particular embedded system. A Video Surveillancesystem was chosen as the particular embedded system. Systems Engineering concepts provide the foundation for an optimized design process and for the coordination between system modules. The functionality of the Video Surveillance system was achieved through the partitioning of the overall system functionality into three separate modules. The three modules were Image Capture, Image Processing and Image Transmission. The methodology employed resulted in a system that was …
Warm: Wearable Assistant With Remote Monitoring, Lisa Michelle Provenzano Heugel
Warm: Wearable Assistant With Remote Monitoring, Lisa Michelle Provenzano Heugel
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Wearable computing has been in existence as part of our attire for many years, a few examples being the watches, cell phones and MP3 players. Recently, many researchers have been devising ways to incorporate wearable devices seamlessly into our lives with the goal of making them an indispensable part of our daily routines. In this thesis, a new wearable computing device called WARM (Wearable Assistant for Remote Monitoring) for use by the elderly and the handicapped is proposed and its software architecture is defined and described. The physically challenged or the elderly, living on their own, but who require assistance …

From The Dead Hand To The Living Dead: The Conundrum Of Charitable-Donor Standing, Evelyn Brody
From The Dead Hand To The Living Dead: The Conundrum Of Charitable-Donor Standing, Evelyn Brody
Georgia Law Review
This Article examines the current confused state of the law that applies to the private enforcement of restricted charitable gifts, and describes the first steps toward a tailored legal regime that appears in the American Law Institute's draft project on Principles of the Law of Nonprofit Organizations, for which this author is reporter. That regime addresses not only standing, but also proposals for notification of the attorney general, time limits on private (but not attorney general) enforcement, and a circumscription of appropriate remedies in order to protect the charity. Several of the issues, however, will likely require a legislative solution.
