As a direct response to the lackadaisical and much criticized federal handling of Hurricane Katrina, a critical provision within the Fiscal Year 2007 Defense Authorization Act amended in October 2006 the Insurrection Act to allow the President to deploy Federal troops to respond to catastrophic natural disasters and other major domestic emergencies without a prior request from affected state or local governments. This amendment was passed over universal and bipartisan opposition by the Nation's governors, all of whom claimed that this provision upends the delicate balance between Federal and state responsibilities for responding to natural disasters. Updating The Wic Food Packages: It's About Time, Jessamyn Taylor

This issue brief reviews key revisions to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program proposed by the USDA, which are based substantially on recommendations by the Institute of Medicine. Should the changes become regulation, they will be the most significant revision of the WIC food packages in over 25 years. This brief describes the changes, the impetus for their consideration, and possible implementation issues from the perspectives of vendors, state and local WIC agencies, and participants.

The entertainment industry is part of the growing service sector in the state and national economy. The industry both creates employment opportunities and contributes to the quality of life within communities. To fully grow the entertainment industry, however, a city requires appropriate venues to host entertainment events. In the City of Lincoln, Nebraska, there has been a recent proposal to develop a new arena facility for this growing City. Various investigators have researched voluntary employee turnover intention within both the private and public sectors. However, little is known about employee turnover intention within the domestic private banking industry in Taiwan. This study examined the fundamental theoretical literature and empirical studies related to employee turnover intention among Taiwanese domestic private banking employees.

The relationship among pay satisfaction, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and voluntary employee turnover is an important issue for any organization. Why Technology Provides Compelling Reasons To Apply A Daubert Analysis To The Legal Standard Of Care In Medical Malpractice Cases, Nichole Hines

Duke Law & Technology Review

Traditionally, courts have applied a "customary practice" standard in determining the legal standard of care in medical malpractice cases. Recently, a few courts have abandoned this dated standard and instead applied a Daubert analysis to the standard of care, which focuses on medical evidence that is scientifically based . In light of these recent holdings, this iBrief argues that with the increasing amounts of technologies improving evidence-based medicine, the customary practice standard is no longer a useful or appropriate test for determining the standard of care in medical malpractice cases.
