University Research Program Sees Drop In Funding, Zach Pluhacek

INTSORMIL Impacts and Bulletins

A program headquartered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that uses science to assist economically stressed nations will receive $9 million throughout five years through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The agreement, announced Friday morning by the UNL Office of Research and Graduate Studies, will significantly decrease the annual funding the International Sorghum and Millet Collaborative Research Support Program, or INTSORMIL, has received in recent years.

Latino Voting In The 2004 Election: The Case Of New York, José Cruz, Cecilia Ferradino, Sally Friedman

Policy Documents

This paper examines the participation of Latinos in the electoral process in New York State. It describes key features of the demographic and political context in which Latino participation takes place and provides an analysis of the Latino presence and role during the 2004 campaign. The paper also includes an analysis of Latino registration and turn-out patterns in the presidential race. Most of the literature on Latinos in New York quite sensibly focuses on activities in New York City. This paper for the first time analyses Latino registration, turnout, and voting patterns in the state as a whole. The patterns …

Policy Tools For Smart Growth In New England, New England Environmental Finance Center

Smart Growth

Across New England communities have been experiencing a rapid outward surge of development away from our community and downtown centers. Effects of sprawl include a loss of wildlife habitat, farm and timber lands; increased costs of community services and higher taxes; auto-dependency, longer commutes, and increased congestion; increases in air and water pollution; a sedentary lifestyle and increased obesity; and losses to one’s sense of place and social ties.

Human Performance and Health Education Faculty Research

Context: It has been theorized that aquatic balance training differs from land balance

training. Objective: To compare the effects of balance training in aquatic and

land environments. Design: Between-groups, repeated-measures design. Setting:

Biomechanics laboratory and pool. Participants: 24 healthy subjects randomly

assigned to aquatic (n = 8), land (n = 10), or control (n = 6) groups. Intervention:

Four weeks of balance training. Main Outcome Measures: Balance was measured

(pre, mid, post, follow-up). COP variables: radial area, y range, x range in single

leg (SL), tandem (T), single leg foam (SLF), and tandem form (TF) stance. Results:
