There is a problem facing Industrial Technology (IT) - the under-representation of women at all levels. The problem of this study was to identify female IT faculty perceptions regarding characteristics of successful IT faculty and the professional climate that may limit diversity in Industrial Technology collegiate teaching positions. The effects of continued under-representation of women in Industrial Technology programs in higher education will not be reversed without attention to increasing the number of women at all organizational levels. Analyzing the professional climate surrounding Industrial Technology from a female IT faculty perception may lead to a greater understanding of the barriers …

Agency decision makers continue to shape just about every facet of l.fe as we know it. This Article discusses the peculiar procedures for obtaining final agency decisions and the review of those decisions. The survey period for this Article is from June 1, 2004 through May 31, 2005. Only cases from the Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals have been reviewed, and there has been no attempt to usurp the prerogative of other authors for this issue. This Article surveys the death penalty decisions of the Georgia Supreme Court from June 1, 2004 through May 31, 2005. The cases discussed include those heard by the supreme court on interim appeal, on direct appeal, and on review of habeas corpus decisions. Focusing on the court's decisions that affect the trial and appeal of death penalty cases, this Article, with some exceptions, does not discuss holdings in capital cases that are common to all criminal appeals.

Teachers’ Experiences Of Learning Science: A Case Of Autobiographical Reflection, Nelofer Halai
Institute for Educational Development, Karachi
This paper analyzes the experience of learning science in school of 34 teachers enrolled in a science methods course in the M.Ed. programme offered by the Aga Khan University, Pakistan. The participants were expected to write their reflections after recalling their experience of learning science in school. The findings reveal that the majority of teachers recalled negative experiences of learning science and that the teaching style of their teachers influenced the way they feel about science even to this day. It follows that if teachers are helped to recall their own experience of learning science in the classroom, it opens …

The National Catholic Youth Conference 2005 was held in Atlanta from October 27th to October 30th. A Programming Team, of which I was the director designed prayer for five major prayer sessions, which involved many youth leaders and 18,000 youth participants. Over the course of 5 months, I met with the Programming Team, a Technical Crew and the Sponsoring Organization, as well as several committees who had to approve the scripts. Prior to the conference, the Programming Team trained young animators into various leadership roles: singers, cantors, readers and movers. At the conference, it was my responsibility to see that …

The main focus of this experimental study was to identify how I used the aspects of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) in the Living Environment classroom and to compare its effectiveness to how I previously taught the course using traditional teaching methodologies. The research conducted included: 1) A qualitative analysis comparing the performance of students taking the Living Environment course during the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 academic school years when I used traditional teaching methods to the 2004-2005 academic school year when I used CPS to teach the same curriculum; 2) A quantitative analysis of teacher feedback identifying the effectiveness of implementing …

Expanding Forfeiture Without Sacrificing Confrontation After Crawford, Joshua Deahl

The central holding of Crawford v. Washington is fairly straightforward: The Confrontation Clause bars the admission of out-of-court testimonial statements unless the defendant had a prior opportunity to cross-examine the witness. Crawford, however, has an often overlooked caveat. In renouncing numerous exceptions to the confrontation right, the Court rejected only those that purport to test the reliability of testimonial statements. It left equitable exceptions undisturbed. As the Court pointed out, "[T]he rule of forfeiture by wrongdoing (which we accept) extinguishes confrontation claims on essentially equitable grounds." The parameters of the rule of forfeiture are a matter of some dispute. …

With the rise of non-native-born American politicians, the natural born citizen requirement in the United States Constitution has received much publicity. This note examines the history and background of the requirement that our President be born in this country. This note then focuses on how the increase of globalization should compel Americans to pass a constitutional amendment to repeal the natural born citizen requirement and discusses the reasons why many Americans oppose such a constitutional amendment. The note then explores some of the current misconceptions about globalization and concludes that Americans' fears and misconceptions of globalization may very well prevent …

Richard Bushman’s wonderfully expansive paper “Joseph Smith’s Many Histories” reminds us in forceful ways of the historical complexity that helped create the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith. Bushman also reminds us that while historical complexity is embedded in history, it embeds itself as well in the hearts and minds of human beings who discover the various realities of history and then appropriate those realities for their own purposes. As an illustration of this point, Bushman tells the story of Christopher Columbus— how his standing as the grandfather of the United States was neither acknowledged nor celebrated until after 1776.

My thoughts on Joseph Smith’s interest in past worlds cluster into three sections. The first deals with the challenge of evaluating and assessing Joseph Smith’s recoveries of texts or views from past worlds or civilizations. The second develops a list of ways in which the past functioned in Joseph Smith’s process of continuing revelation. The third focuses on the dynamic link between the past and the present in Joseph Smith’s concept of priesthood authority and its restoration.

Discovering Informative Connection Subgraphs In Multi-Relational Graphs, Cartic Ramakrishnan, William Milnor, Matthew Perry, Amit P. Sheth

Discovering patterns in graphs has long been an area of interest. In most approaches to such pattern discovery either quantitative anomalies, frequency of substructure or maximum flow is used to measure the interestingness of a pattern. In this paper we introduce heuristics that guide a subgraph discovery algorithm away from banal paths towards more "informative" ones. Given an RDF graph a user might pose a question of the form: "What are the most relevant ways in which entity X is related to entity Y?" the response to which is a subgraph connecting X to Y.
