This paper reports the results of a user study done at the formative stage of development of a collaborative resource development (CoreDev) digital library for Malaysian historical resources by collaborating partners. CoreDev aims to provide an electronic system to help students obtain information on local history; collect, store and organize information in digital format; publish and share electronic resources. While most digital library projects were driven, by technology development and research, there has been little investigation into how to develop a creative, working community around a digital library. An experimental evaluation has been made of the power output, specific fuel consumption and fuel conversion efficiency from running a 1.5 litre, 4-cylinder Proton Magma retrofitted spark ignition car engine with a dynamometer. Tests have been conducted at wide open throttle (WOT), with varying speeds and at constant speed with varying load. Performance, fuel consumption measurements were recorded under steady state operating conditions for gasoline and CNG (compressed natural gas). The engine was converted to computer integrated bi-fueling system from a gasoline engine and was operated separately either with gasoline or CNG using an electronically controlled solenoid actuated valve system. …

Background: Castlio and Ferris-Swift conducted a series of experiments in the 1930s testing the scientific basis for using splenic pump manipulation to stimulate the immune system. Their work is still cited as evidence that the splenic pump technique is beneficial. However, they only reported case summaries of the data, indicating what percent of the cases increased or decreased relative to baseline and, therefore, limiting the certainty of their conclusions. To our knowledge, no one has published research confirming their findings. Desiccations cracks are formed during drying process of fine grained cohesive soils in summer and these cracks often appear on unpaved subgrades due to direct exposure to sun. These cracks allow surface runoff infiltration into subsoils and eventually weaken adjacent base and subgrade layers. The loss of support from these underlying layers results in both longitudinal and transverse cracks in paved shoulders and pavements. Composting is a successful method of recycling organic waste material into stabilized materials that could be used for erosion control and landscaping applications. Foreign aid is an important component of financial flows to many developing countries. This study seeks to investigate how foreign aid flows are influenced by two factors: the gross domestic products (GDP) per capita of the recipient countries, and changes in institutional and economic factors. For example, do increases in the GDP per capita of recipient countries attract more foreign aid in support of the on going economic and institutional reforms, or does this send a signal to the donors that these countries are doing well, and do not need as much aid? During the last three decades, public schools have positively contemplated the concepts of mainstreaming, least restrictive environment and inclusion and have begun to serve more students with disabilities in K-12 general edcuation classes (Hicks-Coolick & Kurtz, 1996). There has been a corresponding increase in the number of students with disabilities who attend college and universities. However, at the postsecondary level, issues of educating students with disabilities are often different than those affecting K-12 education, and the instructional climate is much more challenging. Sergeant Burke Wylie of the 31st Iowa Infantry Regiment was an eyewitness to the events and series of historic battles that occurred between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. His vivid descriptions of the ferocity of combat, the geographic features of battlefields and the local inhabitants he encountered are well depicted in his correspondence. Sergeant Wylie's letters begin in December 1863 near Chattanooga and conclude in September 1864 outside of Atlanta.

This dissertation sought to critically analyze the university environment by examining how the representation practices of corporations articulate with the growing obesity epidemic. For this study, existing data from one southeastern university was collected to describe the articulation between the university and obesity. The analysis examined the collected information and used the cultural studies concept of representation to expose the articulation between obesity and the university setting, including the three major theoretical works of Martin Nestle, Henry Giroux, Michel Foucault, and Paulo Freire. The images and words assembled in this thesis describe and relate experiences from my past that seem necessary to understanding my current body of ceramic and mixed media sculptures. As the title Agrarian Impressions implies, the stoneware sculptures are based upon memories from growing up on a self-sufficent farm. In addition to my functional work, my sculptures reference tools and machines used to aid the production and harvest of crops and troughs and animal feeders. Objective:

To determine how the ear canal sound pressure levels generated by circumaural, supra-aural, and insert earphones differ when coupled to the normal adult and infant ear.

Design:

The ratio between the sound pressure generated in an adult ear and an infant ear was calculated for three types of earphones: a circumaural earphone (Natus Medical, ALGO with Flexicoupler™), a supra-aural earphone (Telephonics, TDH-49 with MXAR cushion), and an insert earphone placed in the ear canal (Etymo↕tic Research, ER-3A). The current parent involvement practices in Georgia Title I schools as reported by Title I district-level school administrators are described in this quantitative study. Data gathered describe strategies, means of communication, barriers, personnel, and staff development impacting parent involvement. The researcher found that, although districts employ a variety of research-based strategies to engage parents, only half of the surveyed strategies had been used with any degree of frequency. This is possibly attributable to the finding that almost two-thirds of the participants had five or fewer years Title I administration experience and that many districts had not provided teacher compensation or …

The present descriptive study obtained nursing education administrators perceptions about the use and effectiveness of recruitment and retention strategies for African American male nursing students as compared to those strategies used for all nursing students in their nursing programs. A survey based on a review of the literature was developed by the researcher. The survey was mailed to 241 baccalaureate degree nursing education administrators in the 16 states and District of Columbia, Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) region with a response rate of 39.3 %. Website archival refers to the task of monitoring and storing snapshots of website(s) for future retrieval and analysis. This task is particularly important for websites that have content changing over time with older information constantly overwritten by newer one. In this paper, we propose WEBARC as a set of software tools to allow users to construct a logical structure for a website to be archived.
