The Anchor, Volume 118.10: November 10, 2004, Hope College
The Anchor: 2004
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Summary Of U. And Community C. Sys. Of Nev. V. Nevadans For Sound Gov't., 120 Nev. Adv. Op. 81, Clarke Walton
Nevada Supreme Court Summaries
Respondent, Nevadans for Sound Government (NSG) is a political organization that gathers signatures on government owned property. NSG filed an action in district court alleging actions taken by Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) and University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) unlawfully restricted access to RTC and UCCSN properties for signature collecting purposes. The district court concluded that certain actions by appellants unlawfully violated respondent's constitutional and statutory rights. The supreme court reversed the decision that respondent's constitutional rights were violated, and partially affirmed the decision that its statutory rights were violated.

We calibrate reverberation-based black hole masses in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) by using the correlation between black hole mass, MBH, and bulge/spheroid stellar velocity dispersion, σ[sigma]∗. We use new measurements of σ[sigma]∗ for 6 AGNs and published velocity dispersions for 10 others, in conjunction with improved reverberation mapping results, to determine the scaling factor required to bring reverberation-based black hole masses into agreement with the quiescent galaxy MBH–σ[sigma]∗ relationship. The scatter in the AGN BH masses is found to be less than a factor of 3. The current observational uncertainties preclude use of the scaling factor to discriminate between broad-line …

Modeling Alternate Strategies For Airline Revenue Management, Kapil Joshi
Modeling Alternate Strategies For Airline Revenue Management, Kapil Joshi
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Ever since the deregulation of the airline industry in 1978, fierce competition has made every airline try and gain a competitive edge in the market. In order to accomplish this, airlines are turning to advanced optimization techniques such as revenue management. Revenue management is a way for airlines to maximize capacity and profitability by managing supply and demand through price management.
Over the last few years research in the field of revenue management has steadily progressed from seat inventory control techniques such as single leg seat inventory and network inventory control to ticket pricing techniques. Ticket pricing techniques involve setting …
Gait-Based Recognition At A Distance: Performance, Covariate Impact And Solutions, Zongyi Liu
Gait-Based Recognition At A Distance: Performance, Covariate Impact And Solutions, Zongyi Liu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
It has been noticed for a long time that humans can identify others based on their biological movement from a distance. However, it is only recently that computer vision based gait biometrics has received much attention. In this dissertation, we perform a thorough study of gait recognition from a computer vision perspective. We first present a parameterless baseline recognition algorithm, which bases similarity on spatio-temporal correlation that emphasizes gait dynamics as well as gait shapes. Our experiments are performed with three popular gait databases: the USF/NIST HumanID Gait Challenge outdoor database with 122 subjects, the UMD outdoor database with 55 …

The Origin Of Fe Ii Emission In Active Galactic Nuclei, J. A. Baldwin, Gary J. Ferland, K. T. Korista, F. Hamann, A. Lacluyzé
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications
We used a very large set of models of broad emission line region (BELR) clouds in active galactic nuclei to investigate the formation of the observed Fe II emission lines. We show that photoionized BELR clouds cannot produce both the observed shape and observed equivalent width of the 2200-2800 Å Fe II UV bump unless there is considerable velocity structure corresponding to a microturbulent velocity parameter vturb≥100 km s-1 for the locally optimally emitting cloud models used here. This could be either microturbulence in gas that is confined by some phenomenon such as MHD waves or a …
