Modelling Of Space Charge Effects In The Electrical Discharge Of Nitrogen Gas Laser, Chin Yang Chia
Modelling Of Space Charge Effects In The Electrical Discharge Of Nitrogen Gas Laser, Chin Yang Chia
Student Works (2000-2009)
A computer model for the simulation of a nitrogen gas discharge has been built and studied. This model was based on the fluid description of the discharge plasma. The Phoenical SHASTA Flux-Corrected Transport (FCT) algorithm is used for the solution of the fluid equations and its accuracy has been tested. The distribution of the local electrical field was calculated by the Poisson equation. The internal discharge current was calculated by Sato's equation. The motion of the charge particles was taken into account. The electrical discharge behavior was simulated by the circuit equation and solved using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method …
Design Of Low Phase Drift Cmos Frequency Synthesisers, Cyril Patrick Hervé Florent Lahuec
Design Of Low Phase Drift Cmos Frequency Synthesisers, Cyril Patrick Hervé Florent Lahuec
Theses
This thesis presents a methodology for the development of high performance video clock synthesisers that have high (2000) input to output clock multiplication ratios. The synthesisers are required to be compatible with standard CMOS technologies and they must exhibit very low drift between their input and output clocks.
The methodology used borrows techniques established for RF synthesisers in the GHz range. In the RF domain there are significant constraints on spectral spread and because of this there has been significant interest in phase noise generated by intrinsic device noise. Simple and accurate models were developed that help understand the up …
Servo Response And Modelling Issues In Generalised Predictive Control, Ben Griffin
Servo Response And Modelling Issues In Generalised Predictive Control, Ben Griffin
Theses
One of the more popular control strategies, of late, is the Generalised Predictive Controller (GPC). It has received widespread dissemination in academia and numerous successful applications in industry testify to its usefulness. Its popularity partly stems from its superiority to its predecessors, e.g. the generalised minimum variance and pole-placement controllers, but also from the GPC ‘tuning knobs’, which have simple time-domain interpretations and extremely robust default settings. However, despite the widespread interest, there would appear to be some issues relating to the specification of the closed-loop serv^o response that have not been covered in any great detail in the GPC …

Effect Of Deuterium Absorption On The Heavy-Fermion Compound Updin, P. Raj, A. Sathyamoorthy, S. K. Dhar, Z. Chu, William B. Yelon, S. K. Malik
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
The heavy fermion compound UPdIn is found to absorb deuterium without disproportionation to yield (formula presented) Magnetization, heat capacity, x-ray, and neutron-diffraction measurements have been carried out to probe the structural and magnetic properties of this deuteride. It is found that deuterium absorption results in a highly anisotropic lattice expansion, without changing the (formula presented)-type hexagonal structure of the parent compound. The magnetic ordering temperature is enhanced to 80 K and the low-temperature uranium moment to (formula presented) from their corresponding values of 21 K and (formula presented) respectively, in the parent compound. Neutron-diffraction studies on the deuteride reveal antiferromagnetic …

A 0.5 Μm Thick Polysilicon Schottky Diode With Rectification Ratio Of 10^6, Elena A. Guliants, Chunhai Ji, Young J. Song, Wayne A. Anderson
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Polycrystalline Si films, 0.5-mm thick, were obtained as a result of metal-induced growth by sputtering from a Si target on 25 nm thick Ni prelayers at 525 °C. Silicon grew heteroepitaxially on the NiSi2 layer formed due to the reaction between the sputtered Si atoms and Ni. Schottky diodes were fabricated on the Si films by deposition of a Schottky metal on the front surface of the film while Ni disilicide provided an intimate ohmic contact at the back. A Pd/n-Si diode using an n-Si film annealed for 2 h at 700 °C in forming gas demonstrated a rectification ratio …

Syntheses Of Differential Games And Pseudo-Riccati Equations, Yuncheng You
Syntheses Of Differential Games And Pseudo-Riccati Equations, Yuncheng You
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
For differential games of fixed duration of linear dynamical systems with nonquadratic payoff functionals, it is proved that the value and the optimal strategies as saddle point exist whenever the associated pseudo-Riccati equation has a regular solution P(t,x). Then the closed-loop optimal strategies are given by u(t)=−R−1B∗P(t,x(t)), v(t)=−S−1C∗P(t,x(t)). For differential game problems of Mayer type, the existence of a regular solution to the pseudo-Riccati equation is proved under certain assumptions and a constructive expression of that solution can be found by solving an algebraic equation with time parameter.
Transit Ridership Efficiency As A Function Of Fares, Gerrit R. Moore
Transit Ridership Efficiency As A Function Of Fares, Gerrit R. Moore
Journal of Public Transportation
The purpose of this study is to assist in the development of transit fare policies that exploit the benefits of public transit in the mix of transportation options for Washington State. The study relates fares to ridership performance, fare-box recovery, and system utilization.
Ridership efficiency, a measure of transit performance, is estimated for 24 State transit systems. A mathematical model is developed that relates fares to ridership efficiency. The ridership efficiency function follows the complement of a cumulative normal probability distribution. The tail of the distribution is reached at $0.95. Higher fares have little impact on ridership efficiency. An operating …

Electrostatic Microencapsulation Of Composite Particulate Materials For Manufacturing And Environmental Applications, S. De, M. Pritchett, Malay K. Mazumder, Robert A. Sims, C. U. Yurteri, Alexandru S. Biris, A. Rego
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
Electrostatic microencapsulation is a dry coating process where two powders, one containing the fines and the other relatively larger particles, are separately dispersed in air and pre-charged with opposite polarity, using corona charging for electrostatic coagulation. These oppositely charged core and guest particles experience attractive electrostatic forces and generate composite particles. Preliminary experiments of electrostatic microencapsulation were performed using Anionic Exchange Resin (AG 1-X8) as the host particle and Red Toner (Omega 4000) as the guest particles. An electrostatic microencapsulation tower has been designed for generation of composite particles using particles of different particle size distribution.
A Defense Of Empirical Legal Scholarship, Richard L. Revesz
A Defense Of Empirical Legal Scholarship, Richard L. Revesz
Faculty Articles
In the past twenty years, the legal academy has become quite interdisciplinary in its ambitions and methods. It is therefore natural that scholars in other disciplines-particularly the social scienceswould want to assess the quality of work being done by legal scholars, as Epstein and King have done. At the same time, given the extent to which joint degree holders and otherwise academically trained individuals have moved into legal teaching, it would be surprising if the quality of legal research-particularly empirical research-had not improved dramatically over time, with its tools becoming more sophisticated, the questions it addresses becoming better conceived, and …

Oscillation Criteria For A Class Of Partial Functional-Differential Equations Of Higher Order, Tariel Kiguradze, Takaŝi Kusano, Norio Yoshida
Mathematics and System Engineering Faculty Publications
Higher order partial differential equations with functional arguments including hyperbolic equations and beam equations are studied. Sufficient conditions are derived for every solution of certain boundary value problems to be oscillatory in a cylindrical domain. Our approach is to reduce the multi-dimensional oscillation problem to a one-dimensional problem for higher order functional differential inequalities.
Existence Of Solutions For Discontinuous Functional Equations And Elliptic Boundary-Value Problems, Siegfried Carl, Seppo V. Heikkilä
Existence Of Solutions For Discontinuous Functional Equations And Elliptic Boundary-Value Problems, Siegfried Carl, Seppo V. Heikkilä
Mathematics and System Engineering Faculty Publications
We prove existence results for discontinuous functional equations in general Lp-spaces and apply these results to the solvability of implicit and explicit elliptic boundary-value problems involving discontinuous nonlinearities. The main tool in the proof is a fixed point result in lattice-ordered Banach spaces proved by the second author. © 2002 Southwest Texas State University.
