The Influence Of Disciplinary Differences On Consultations With Faculty, Virginia Lee Jan 2000

The Influence Of Disciplinary Differences On Consultations With Faculty, Virginia Lee

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

In recent years researchers have begun to investigate the nature of disciplinary differences in higher education and their implications for teaching and learning. While researchers have studied several aspects of disciplinary differences, they have given comparatively little attention to the significance of these differences for faculty development. Not "If" But "How": Reflecting On The Aba Commission's Recommendations On Multidisciplinary Practice, John H. Matheson, Edward S. Adams Jan 2000

Not "If" But "How": Reflecting On The Aba Commission's Recommendations On Multidisciplinary Practice, John H. Matheson, Edward S. Adams

Articles

Multidisciplinary practice (MDP) has been aptly described as the, "most important issue facing the legal profession today." The American Bar Association's Commission on Multidisciplinary Practice (Commission) surprised most observers on June 8, 1999 by recommending that the American Bar Association (ABA) amend the Model Rules of Professional Conduct (Model Rules) to allow lawyers to combine with, and share fees with, other professionals within a single professional entity. Under the proposal, lawyers could create partnerships with accountants, developers, engineers, bankers, and all other professionals, thereby giving clients access to one-stop shopping at multidisciplinary firms.

We waited for the world to end… It didn't happen. We watched the skies for catastrophic or miraculous events. The sky was empty. As the clock struck midnight on December 31, 1999, we were ready for whatever the world was going to throw our way. And the world balked. After months, even years, of weathering predictions of disaster and chaos descending with the advent of Year 2000, we got nothing. The worried analysts who said computers around the world would crash just looked like fools. The doomsday predictors didn't even have good excuses as to why nothing happened.

So we …

Striving To Do Well What Comes Naturally: Social Support, Developmental Psychopathology, And Social Policy, Ross A. Thompson, Lenna Ontai Jan 2000

Striving To Do Well What Comes Naturally: Social Support, Developmental Psychopathology, And Social Policy, Ross A. Thompson, Lenna Ontai

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Social support can have significant stress-preventive and stress-buffering benefits for troubled individuals in everyday circumstances. Consequently, it is not surprising that many therapeutic and preventive programs enlist social support to address problems of child and family psychopathology, especially in the context of “two-generation interventions” that seek to improve child well-being by strengthening parental functioning and parent–child relationships. Home visitation programs are the best known of these two-generation strategies and have become the focus of state-level and national efforts to support families and prevent harm to children. The conclusions of basic research studies on social support converge significantly with the findings …
