Nebraska Tractor Tests

ABOUT THE TEST REPORT AND USE OF THE DATA

The test data contained in this report are a tabulation of the results of a series of tests. Due to the restricted format of these pages, only a limited amount of data and not all of the tractor specifications are included. The full OECD report contains usually about 30 pages of data and specifications. The test data were obtained for each tractor under similar conditions and therefore, provide a means of comparison of performance based on a limited set of reported data.

Explaining Multilingual Education: Information On Some Tough Questions, Stephen L. Walter Jan 2000

Explaining Multilingual Education: Information On Some Tough Questions, Stephen L. Walter

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

A 1999 seminar on multilingual education has resulted in a book which summarizes the investigative work of the seminar participants (from ten countries). This article provides a synopsis of the book. The evidence suggests that countries which do not develop and implement mother tongue education programs will incur long-term disadvantages outweighing any short-term gains that result from using only one language of education.

Small-Scale Variability Of Groundwater-Lake Interaction At Shingobee Lake, Minnesota, Hans F. Kishel Jan 2000

Small-Scale Variability Of Groundwater-Lake Interaction At Shingobee Lake, Minnesota, Hans F. Kishel

Theses and Dissertations

Groundwater discharge is an important contributor to the water budget of a lake. The variability of hydraulic parameters of lake and groundwater systems causes difficulties in estimating the contribution of groundwater to a lake water budget. This study attempts to show that amount of variability for a small portion of the lake and shore (8 x 15 meter section, starting approximately five meters from shore and extending nine meters into the lake).

Piezometers were installed at a depth of one half and one meter in nests at 70 locations in the rectangular study site. Water levels were collected from the …

Newly Available, Not Newly Discovered, Penny J. White

The Journal of Appellate Practice and Process

Advances in science have made it possible to discover new evidence. This newly discovered evidence is not always admissible as evidence. This essay suggests methods by which appellate courts may approach a balance between the rigid application of limitation periods in serious criminal cases and admitting evidence that proves innocence.

The Constitutionality Of The Children's Internet Protection Act, Adam Horowitz Jan 2000

The Constitutionality Of The Children's Internet Protection Act, Adam Horowitz

St. Thomas Law Review

Congress is presently considering the Children's Internet Protection Act ("CIPA"). CIPA requires schools and libraries that have computers with Internet access to certify to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that they (1) have selected a technology for such computers which filters or blocks access to child pornography and obscene material on the Internet; and (2) are enforcing a policy to ensure the operation of such technology during any use of such computers by minors Schools and libraries failing to submit a good-faith certification to the FCC within thirty days of the bill's enactment are ineligible to receive or retain the …

Mathematics In Hands-On Science For Liberal Arts Students, M. I. Sobel Jan 2000

Mathematics In Hands-On Science For Liberal Arts Students, M. I. Sobel

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

We describe a number of experiments from the courses called, General Science 9, part of the science program for elementary education majors at Brooklyn College. These courses provide hands-on learning experiences for students who are insecure and weak in science and mathematics. Quantitative thinking is a central element in most of the students’ work. Mathematics is taught in a concrete and intuitive way, as a direct outgrowth of their needs; first, in analysis of data, and second, in discovering underlying theory. The science program has been developed through cooperation among faculty from the School of Education and the science departments.

A General Chemistry Course For Prospective Elementary School Teachers, M. S. Lazarus Jan 2000

A General Chemistry Course For Prospective Elementary School Teachers, M. S. Lazarus

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

The paper describes a general chemistry course designed for students who are planning to become elementary school teachers. The course has been structured so as to transmit the fun and excitement of experiencing chemistry and uncovering its basic principles by centering on laboratory and other discovery experiences. In addition, the course uses peer led workshops in which the students discuss these experiences. The course is thus a product of a particularly strong collaboration between public schools and college faculties. It is going to become a part of a new four-course sequence that will be required of all students intending to …

Active Learning In Sophomore Mathematics: A Cautionary Tale, M. Eisenberg Jan 2000

Active Learning In Sophomore Mathematics: A Cautionary Tale, M. Eisenberg

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

Math 245: Multivariate Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations with Computer I is the first half of a year-long sophomore sequence that emphasizes the subjects' interconnections and grounding in real-world applications. The sequence is aimed primarily at students from physical and mathematical sciences and engineering. In Fall, 1998, as a result of my affiliation with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Teacher Education Collaborative (STEMTEC), I continued and extended previously-introduced reforms in Math 245, including: motivating mathematical ideas with real-world phenomena; student use of computer technology; and, learning by discovery and experimentation. I also introduced additional pedagogical strategies for more …

Mathematics Without Lectures: Small-Group Learning At New York University, A. Adler Jan 2000

Mathematics Without Lectures: Small-Group Learning At New York University, A. Adler

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

This article describes an effort to introduce small-group learning into the mathematics curriculum for the non-specialist at New York University. Starting in spring 1999, students were offered the choice of fulfilling their mathematics requirement in a small-group environment that included no formal lectures. The goal of these groups is to make the transition from relatively inactive, even passive, lectures to an experience that actively engages students in the process of doing mathematics. Contact time was restricted to two weekly classes run by a graduate student and was limited to enrollments of 15-16 students. The course is a small-group version of …

The Use Of Project-Based Learning In A Technology Course For Math And Science Teachers, B. Murfin Jan 2000

The Use Of Project-Based Learning In A Technology Course For Math And Science Teachers, B. Murfin

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

In this project, pre- and in-service math and science teachers used project-based learning to learn the complex skills involved in integrating technology into math and science teaching. The teachers in the course E36.1002: Microcomputer Applications in Math and Science Instruction in the Department of Teaching & Learning at New York University developed a four-week curriculum that integrates math, science, and technology using a common theme chosen by the teachers. The program has received very positive feedback from all participants and may be expanded in the future. Some recommendations are provided on how field experience in teaching with technology can be …

A Case Study Of An Online Science Fair- The International Cyberscience Expo 2000 (Ice2000), B. Murfin

Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations

The International CyberScience Expo 2000 is a project that promotes project-based, science learning by secondary students. The event was organized and held entirely online in a collaborative virtual learning environment called ScienceMOO. It was found that ScienceMOO had great advantages and disadvantages as a tool for organizing and staging synchronous online events involving large numbers of people. Scheduling of online, synchronous meetings between the students and judges was very challenging. However, when judges did manage to meet with students, many beneficial interactions resulted.
