Researching Potential Partners For An Equestrian Learning Center In Frankenmuth, Mi, Tracy Weber
Theses
Researchers believe that 90% of emotional communication is non-verbal (Gibbs, 1995). Monty Roberts (1997), and many others in the equestrian industry, recognize the power of using horses as a communication tool for humans. The North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) is an organization whose mission is to promote and support equine-facilitated activities, including communication, self-awareness and self-esteem. A learning organization incorporates the elements of a shared vision, personal mastery, systems thinking, mental models, and team learning. This study found that there are NARHA members that possess a learning organization philosophy and therefore could possibly be interested in creating …

In theory building effective teams seems easy but in reality putting this knowledge into practice that changes behavior and fosters learning is a difficult challenge for corporations today. Through a series of 13 interviews this study benchmarks both the service and manufacturing industry to identify the characteristics about what comprises an effective team in organizations today, how their organizational design impacts team development and the different ways that people learn, think about and understand teams in organizations. Developing …

A Contingency Framework—The Influence Of Computerized Information Systems On Organizational Performance, Jagannathan V. Iyengar
A Contingency Framework—The Influence Of Computerized Information Systems On Organizational Performance, Jagannathan V. Iyengar
Journal of International Information Management
Evaluation is a task most designers, builders, and supporters of information systems agree is significant. However, most information systems evaluations are performance evaluations focusing on the efficiency of the computer system. There is another dimension to the evaluation of the information system that must be considered if computerized information systems (CIS) are to be designed to "fit" an organization: impact evaluations. Impact evaluations are concerned with those effects on an organization which result from the development and use of an information system. The actual task of performing an impact evaluation is hindered by the complexity of the task and by …

Organizational Dynamics: Issues And Implications From The Complexity Sciences, Kenneth Michael Mathews
Organizational Dynamics: Issues And Implications From The Complexity Sciences, Kenneth Michael Mathews
Doctoral Dissertations
Organizational change, both developmental and transformational, is an issue of central and enduring concern in the organizational sciences. However, the processes, mechanisms and sequencing of events that describe how and why social systems change have not been satisfactorily explicated at a theoretical level and constitutes one of the major challenges facing the social sciences. This research examines issues and implications from an emerging perspective—the complexity sciences—developed to explain the mechanisms and processes of change in physical and natural systems. The purpose is to develop a theoretical approach to the study of change in social organization that integrates these implications, while …

Alternative Teacher Compensation Systems: Practices And Perceptions As Reported By New Hampshire Principals, Bradford Wilson Craven
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine New Hampshire principal's perceptions regarding alternative compensation plans for teachers. Alternative compensation plans, unlike traditional teacher pay plans, are not based exclusively on years of experience and formal educational attainment. This research was intended to provide a better understanding of how principals view the various alternatives to traditional salary schedules. An assumption of this study was that principals in the state play the primary role in formal teacher evaluations, and any new compensation plans that …
