All That Becomes A Man, Eugene M. Mcavoy
All That Becomes A Man, Eugene M. Mcavoy
English Theses & Dissertations
In each life, the past inevitably impinges upon the present, at once helping to form and threatening to destroy the fragile structure of the psyche called identity. With a multitude of influences, the past functions to alter ephemeral perceptions of the self and to shape an identity that is often incompatible with and abhorrent to who we think we are. This collection of five short stories examines the processes of reconciling the past with the present and of discovering the resulting social, sexual and spiritual identities.
Yet, more importantly, the stories also explore people in their present moments, aching to …

Evaluation Of The Enantiomeric Composition Of Amino Acids In Tobacco, John P. Kullman, Xianghong Chen, Daniel W. Armstrong
Evaluation Of The Enantiomeric Composition Of Amino Acids In Tobacco, John P. Kullman, Xianghong Chen, Daniel W. Armstrong
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
Despite the fact that several studies have reported the concentrations of various free amino acids in tobacco, their enantiomeric composition is unknown. Both the absolute and enantiomeric compositions of proline, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, valine, methionine, leucine, and phenylalanine were determined for three strains of tobacco leaf, three types of smokeless tobacco, and six different blended filtered and nonfiltered reference cigarettes. Some of the highest levels of D-amino acids ever found in agricultural products were observed. Possible mechanisms for the production of these D-amino acids are considered. The relevance of D-amino acids in tobacco is discussed.

The Impact Of Resident And Transient Predators On The Popultation Dynamics Of Juvenile Caribbean Spiny Lobster (Panulirus Argus) In Florida Bay, Florida, Jason Edward Schratwieser
Biological Sciences Theses & Dissertations
There has been a considerable amount of research devoted to exploring the relationship between predators and prey, but many of these studies fail to address how predation can vary over spatial and temporal scales. The tendency of ecologists to model predation as a static entity often masks its capacity for creating distinctive effects in prey populations and communities. Most predation studies also focus on the effect of a single species of predator on a prey population, an unrealistic situation in nature. In the Florida Keys, juvenile spiny lobsters are subjected to two general classes of predators: i) "resident" predators such …
