Western Australian Fisheries - At A Glance (1997), Fisheries Department Of Western Australia

Fisheries Published Reports

Western Australia's fisheries are the envy of the world. The calibre of our research and management, and the skills of our fishermen, are recognised as second to none. We have pristine oceans and waterways from which we draw fish and fish products of the very best quality.

But while WA ranks as Australia's leading producer and exporter of fish and aquaculture products, we are not resting on our laurels. A major review of fisheries administration has cemented environmental and economic sustainability as the key management objectives, and industry now has greater scope for improving its competitiveness by pursuing new marketing …

Patent Opinions, Privileges, And The Advice Of Counsel Defense To Claims Of Willfull Patent Infringement: Litigation Counsel Caught In The Crossfire, Michael M. Markman Jan 1997

Patent Opinions, Privileges, And The Advice Of Counsel Defense To Claims Of Willfull Patent Infringement: Litigation Counsel Caught In The Crossfire, Michael M. Markman

UC Law SF Communications and Entertainment Journal

The interests advanced by the attorney-client privilege and work product doctrines are a subject of frequent debate. Scholars and practitioners agree, however, that both forms of discovery protection must be waived in certain circumstances. One such situation is where a client asserts the "advice of counsel" as a defense. In the arena of patent litigation, the waiver of discovery protection arises where the alleged patent infringer asserts the advice of counsel defense to claims of willful patent infringement.

The scope of waiver of discovery protections upon asserting the advice of counsel defense to claims of willful patent infringement is expanding …

Proceedings of the North American Crane Workshop

We conducted computer simulations using the program VORTEX (version 7) to project population sizes, growth rates, genetic diversity, and probabilities of extinction over the next 100 years for 2 flocks of whooping cranes (Grus americana), the Aransas/Wood Buffalo population and the experimental Florida population. Standard runs based on best estimates of demographic. genetic, and environmental parameter values were used as a baseline to which several alternative scenarios were compared. Results generally supported the conclusion of the earlier Population Viability Assessment (Mirande et al. 1991) that the AransaslWood Buffalo population will continue to grow steadily with less than a …

Mathematics And Values: Can Philosophy Guide Projects?, Michael H. Veatch Jan 1997

Mathematics And Values: Can Philosophy Guide Projects?, Michael H. Veatch

ACMS Journal 2004

The philosophy of mathematics has provided insight on questions of foundations and mathematical truth; however, it has not been very fruitful in guiding the practice of mathematics. This paper attempts to find points of contact between a Christian worldview and the choice of mathematical projects and methods. Three areas are considered: (i) dubitability in current research, (ii) the intrinsic value of contemporary mathematics to contemporary society, and (iii) the affirmation of human value in the use of mathematics. Finally, a framework for valuing mathematics is proposed as an encouragement to think more deeply about how a Christian might choose a …

As the popularity of recreational fishing continues to rise so does the sector's importance in overall management of our fisheries.

The commercial industry contributes about $1 billion annually, derived from a wide variety of fish stocks, the major ones being rock lobster, prawns, scallops, abalone …

Future Horizons: Recent Literature In Sustainable Agriculture, Gabriel Hegyes, Charles A. Francis Jan 1997

Future Horizons: Recent Literature In Sustainable Agriculture, Gabriel Hegyes, Charles A. Francis

CARI Extension and Education Materials for Sustainable Agriculture

Here is one building block in the foundation for a future agriculture. Increasing trainer literacy in sustainable agriculture can be defined on several levels. At its most literal, it is an anthology of reviews familiarizing the reader with some of the authors, topics, and titles that have composed the sustainable agriculture literature over the last decade or more. It also serves as an annotated bibliography where the dry abstracts of many such works are replaced with insightful essays. Most importantly, this primer is a language text, exposing the user to the semantics, symbols, and syntax of sustainable agriculture. This collection …

Periodic Solutions Of The Retarded Liénard Equation, Bo Zhang Jan 1997

Periodic Solutions Of The Retarded Liénard Equation, Bo Zhang

College of Health, Science, and Technology

Consider the equation (1) x?+ f(x)x? + g(x(t-h)) = 0 with f, g continuous and h > 0. By employing Liapunov's direct method, we construct an invariant sector in the phase space for certain solution maps and then show the existence of a nonconstant periodic solution of (1) using a fixed point theorem of Nussbaum with certain bifurcation techniques.
