Fraud And Focus: Examining Self-Control Strategies In Students Experiencing Impostor Phenomenon, Francesca Angela Catalano
Fraud And Focus: Examining Self-Control Strategies In Students Experiencing Impostor Phenomenon, Francesca Angela Catalano
Theses and Dissertations
Impostor phenomenon (IP) is a common experience among individuals in achievement contexts characterized largely by feelings of self-doubt, attributions of success that focus on external factors, and beliefs that one is “fooling” others about their competence. Current research suggests the effects of IP are complex (e.g., IP is associated with higher grade point average and productivity but also self-handicapping, psychological distress, and difficulties adjusting to college). To better understand these complex effects, this study proposes a self-control perspective for IP, where this phenomenon is seen as involving additional self-control burdens. Specifically, the study examines whether IP is associated with grade …
Multidisciplinary Inverse Robust Co-Design Of Materials, Products, And Manufacturing Processes, H M Dilshad Alam Digonta
Multidisciplinary Inverse Robust Co-Design Of Materials, Products, And Manufacturing Processes, H M Dilshad Alam Digonta
Theses and Dissertations
Realizing the design for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) requires the materials, product, and manufacturing-process disciplines to be designed together. Because these disciplines interact and influence one another's decisions, coordination is needed among their distributed decision-makers. Their interactions are captured through the processing-structure-property-performance (PSPP) linkages, which must be established from limited, costly data. Moreover, each discipline introduces its own sources of uncertainty, and these propagate through the process chain to influence final product performance. The effective realization of the product-material-manufacturing system, therefore, calls for a co-design approach that enables the concurrent coordination of the interacting disciplines while quantifying and managing …
Optimizing Escort Strategies For Chokepoint And Littoral Maritime Lanes Using Mixed-Integer Programming, Shantonu Mitra
Optimizing Escort Strategies For Chokepoint And Littoral Maritime Lanes Using Mixed-Integer Programming, Shantonu Mitra
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Protecting high-value units (HVUs) while traversing maritime chokepoints under threats is a significant challenge that requires effective planning for allocating limited naval assets (escort ships, detection capabilities, and defensive capabilities). Although the weapon-to-target assignment problem has been previously studied in the literature, the problem of allocating limited naval assets under uncertain threat scenarios remains unexplored. This research develops a two-stage stochastic optimization framework with the objective of maximizing the expected weighted survivability of HVUs across all scenarios. The first-stage decisions include assigning available escorts to HVUs, selecting locations for deploying detection capabilities, and allocating defensive capabilities to each escort prior …

[5,5]-Fused Anhydride, Thioanhydride, And Imide Derivatives Of Cyclopentadienyl Complexes, Uttam R. Pokharel, Sean Parkin, John P. Selegue
Chemistry Faculty Publications
A new approach to 5,5-fused heterocyclic derivatives of cyclopentadienylmanganese tricarbonyl and pentamethylruthenocene is presented. 1,2-Dicarbophenoxycyclopentadienyl complexes of manganese and ruthenium were hydrolyzed to 1,2-dicarboxylic acids. Oxalyl chloride converted the acids to chlorocarbonyls, which reacted with bis(trimethylsilyl)sulfide to give the cyclopentadienyl-fused thioanhydrides. Alternatively, dehydration of the diacids with trifluoroacetic anhydride closed the diacids to cyclopentadienyl-fused anhydrides. Treatment of the anhydrides with p-toluidine followed by oxalyl chloride led to cyclopentadienyl-fused carboxylic imides. This approach enables direct comparison of electron-deficient Mn(CO)3 and electron-rich Ru(Cp*) coordination environments on the 5,5-fused heterocycles. Spectroscopic data reveal systematic downfield NMR shifts and higher infrared carbonyl stretching …

They are important entities in efforts to safely and effectively manage water-related hazards in the region.
Thermal Transport Tuning Via Nanoscale Hierarchical Frameworks For Fe2val Thermoelectric Materials, Apoorva Pradip Joshi
Thermal Transport Tuning Via Nanoscale Hierarchical Frameworks For Fe2val Thermoelectric Materials, Apoorva Pradip Joshi
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
Waste heat represents a vast, untapped energy resource. Thermoelectric materials offer a promising route to harvest this energy by directly converting thermal gradients into electricity. The Heusler alloy Fe2VAl is a prime candidate for such applications because it is non-toxic and cost-effective. However, its intrinsically-high thermal conductivity severely limits performance. A detailed understanding of thermal transport mechanisms is therefore essential for improving its thermoelectric efficiency. This work examines the effect of atomic disorder on the thermal transport behaviour of Fe2VAl. We use germanium doping to introduce atomic-scale disorder and demonstrate a substantial reduction in thermal conductivity, from 28 W/m-K in …

Automated Machine Learning And Satellite Image Data Fusion For Monitoring Water Quality In Mosaicked Landscapes, Sahar Rezaei
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Despite the ecological, economic, and social importance of inland water bodies, they are increasingly impacted by human and natural drivers. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) and total suspended solids (TSS) are key indicators of water quality, and elevated concentrations pose significant ecological and public health risks. The spatiotemporal dynamics of these variables remain insufficiently understood in major river systems, including the Upper Mississippi River (UMR) and the Illinois River Basin (IRB). While in situ measurements provide accurate observations, they are costly and offer limited spatial and temporal coverage, restricting basin-scale monitoring. Remote sensing offers a powerful alternative; however, single-sensor approaches are …

A System Dynamics Model For Analyzing Customer Satisfaction Drivers In A Manufacturing Context, Mahnaz Asgari Sooran, Venkat Allada, Adewole Adegbola
Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Customer satisfaction offers economic benefits and competitive advantage to manufacturing enterprises. However, a gap exists in understanding how to achieve customer satisfaction due to the complexities involved in coordinating various subsystems of an enterprise in an efficient manner. In this paper, we identified four internal and external-to-the-firm customer satisfaction drivers which include: government policies, supply chain reliability, knowledge management, and manufacturing performance criteria such as on-time delivery, quality and cost. We then developed a conceptual framework to define the non-linear mathematical relationships between drivers using system dynamics modeling. We conducted "what-if "scenario analyses for a base case, optimistic case and …

Existence And Uniqueness Of Positive Solutions For Hilfer–Hadamard-Type Fractional Differential Equations With Γ-Concave And Sub-Homogeneous Operators, Hasan Rasouli, Hojjat Afshari, Martin Bohner
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works
In this research, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for a class of Hilfer–Hadamard-type fractional differential equations with boundary value problems, including those with integral boundary conditions. The obtained results are conditional on a specific set of strong assumptions, which substantially narrow the class of admissible nonlinearities, coefficients, and boundary data. Thus, the present work extends the Hadamard-type framework to the Hilfer–Hadamard setting only within this restrictive regime, rather than providing a full extension to all Hilfer–Hadamard systems. We utilize the properties of (Formula presented.) -concave and sub-homogeneous operators along with two …

Information-Aware Autonomy Through State Estimation, Control, And Observability, Andres Enriquez Fernandez
Information-Aware Autonomy Through State Estimation, Control, And Observability, Andres Enriquez Fernandez
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
State estimation is fundamental to autonomous systems operating in uncertain environments, where navigation, coordination, and decision-making depend on accurately inferring internal system states from incomplete and noisy observations. While classical estimation theory primarily focuses on reconstructing hidden states from available measurements, practical autonomous systems must also contend with sensing interruptions, communication constraints, limited computational resources, and nonlinear system dynamics that reduce the availability and usability of estimation-relevant information. This dissertation adopts an information-centric perspective on state estimation by introducing the concept of an Information Lifecycle, in which information is generated through system behavior, utilized by estimation algorithms under operational constraints, …

Univariate And Bivariate Binary Spatial Regression Models With Application To Plant Abundance Data, Amir Hamza Akash
Univariate And Bivariate Binary Spatial Regression Models With Application To Plant Abundance Data, Amir Hamza Akash
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Analyzing species distributions is of prime interest in ecological research. Prevalence of a species usually depends on several environmental and topographic features not all of which can be quantified or measured. Spatial random effects play an important role as a surrogate for missing features that can explain similarity in species prevalence patterns between neighboring locations. In this thesis, we focus on a dataset on abundance of plants in the southern part of South Africa. First, we build a hierarchical Bayesian model for binary regression, using the probit link, on presence/ absence of a species based on available covariates. Since the …
Physics-Informed Machine Learning For Predictive Digital Twins In Greenhouses, Hoang Kim Tran
Physics-Informed Machine Learning For Predictive Digital Twins In Greenhouses, Hoang Kim Tran
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Greenhouses are widely used to create controlled environments for crop production, where indoor climate variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, CO2 concentration, radiation, and soil or substrate conditions directly affect plant growth, yield, energy consumption, and resource use. However, greenhouse climates are highly dynamic because they are influenced by complex interactions among outdoor weather, greenhouse structure, crop transpiration, heating systems, ventilation, screens, fans, irrigation, and other actuators. Building digital twins for greenhouses provides a powerful way to represent, monitor, and predict these climate dynamics. A predictive digital twin can simulate future indoor climate states based on current greenhouse conditions, …
