Relative Wages And Exit Behavior Among Registered Nurses, Edward J. Schumacher Oct 1997

Relative Wages And Exit Behavior Among Registered Nurses, Edward J. Schumacher

Health Care Administration Faculty Research

I examine the exit decision of registered nurses using the longitudinal data files generated by the March Current Population Surveys (CPS) from 1983 through 1994. By examining the wages of workers outside of nursing, a measure of the reservation wage is constructed and related to the decision to leave nursing, either for an alternative job or to exit employment. My results indicate that nurses respond to outside wage opportunities. A one standard deviation decrease in the difference between the actual and predicted log wage results in an 8 percent increase in the exit of nurses. Secretaries, however, are shown to …

The Optimal Fontan Connection: A Growing Extracardiac Lateral Tunnel With Pedicled Pericardium., S R. Gundry, A J. Razzouk, M J. Del Rio, Girish S. Shirali, L L. Bailey

Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers

OBJECTIVE: The concept of a lateral tunnel for the Fontan operation is now widely accepted. Most lateral tunnels are constructed intraatrially with the use of aortic crossclamping. Construction of extracardiac lateral tunnels with the use of homografts or other nonviable tubes eliminates aortic crossclamping but lacks growth potential in length or width. The native pericardium, which is "sealed" posteriorly along the pulmonary artery, atrium, and inferior vena cava, could be turned down onto the right atrium to form a viable extracardiac lateral tunnel.

METHODS: We designed and successfully constructed extracardiac lateral tunnels using viable autologous pericardium, pedicled on its lateral …

Indian Tribes And The Legal System, Ralph W. Johnson

This article surveys the past and present role of lawyers in the field of Indian law, from the absence of attorneys in early treaty negotiations through the formative role lawyers played in developing the federal trust relationship, to their modem role as "legal warriors" for the increasingly independent, autonomous tribes of today. Doordarshan, Public Service Broadcasting And The Impact Of Globalization: A Short History, Nikhil Sinha Oct 1997

Doordarshan, Public Service Broadcasting And The Impact Of Globalization: A Short History, Nikhil Sinha

Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law

The article examines the transformation of India's public service broadcasting system, particularly Doordarshan, in the context of globalization and economic liberalization. It argues that the shift from a state-dominated to a market-oriented economy has led to increased commercialization of broadcasting, threatening the traditional public service mission of Doordarshan. While structural reforms like the implementation of Prasar Bharati aim to grant greater autonomy, the pressures of commercial competition and political influence continue to challenge the balance between public interest and market demands.

A Human Rights Perspective In The Broadcasting Bill Debate, Mark N. Templeton Oct 1997

A Human Rights Perspective In The Broadcasting Bill Debate, Mark N. Templeton

Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law

The article critiques the Broadcasting Bill, 1997, in India for neglecting the fundamental right of citizens to seek, receive, and impart information, as guaranteed by the Indian Constitution, the Indian Supreme Court, and international human rights treaties like the ICCPR. It argues that the Bill’s restrictions on ownership and content regulation may infringe upon freedom of expression and diversity of information. The analysis advocates for a human rights approach to broadcasting legislation, emphasizing the importance of balancing private and public interests while adhering to constitutional and international standards.

An Evaluation Of The Efficacy Of Selected Nonpharmacologic Pain Interventions In Infants, Cindy Smith Greenberg Dnsc, Ms, Rn, Cpnp Oct 1997

An Evaluation Of The Efficacy Of Selected Nonpharmacologic Pain Interventions In Infants, Cindy Smith Greenberg Dnsc, Ms, Rn, Cpnp

Dissertations

Infants subjected to painful stimuli respond with deleterious physiologic and metabolic effects, behavioral changes, and potentially long term effects on painful stimuli processing and response. There are few studies that address effective pain interventions for infants, particularly those interventions that staff nurses can implement independently. Interventions must be identified and their effectiveness must be validated for this vulnerable population. Pharmacologic management of pain may cause deleterious side effects and needs to be ordered by physicians or nurse practitioners. Nonpharmacologic methods to manage pain can usually be implemented by staff nurses independently. This study evaluated the efficacy of two nonpharmacologic pain …
