Regenerative Tourism And Transformative Destination Management: Developing A Framework Through The Case Of County Offaly, Yi (Alex) Yu, Mary Loonam Dr, Tony Johnston
Irish Journal of Tourism, Hospitality, Leisure and Event Research
The increasing urgency of climate change, biodiversity loss, and socio-economic transition has generated growing interest in tourism approaches that move beyond sustainability towards more transformative forms of development. While sustainable tourism has become the dominant paradigm within tourism planning and policy, it has been criticised for its emphasis on impact mitigation and its limited capacity to address systemic challenges. In response, regenerative tourism has emerged as an alternative framework that seeks to restore and enhance ecological, social, cultural, and economic systems through tourism activity.
This paper explores the potential of regenerative tourism as a framework for transformative destination management. Drawing …

School Principals’ Perspectives Regarding Successful Professional Development, Kathryn L. Bauserman, Diana Quatroche, Linda E. Martin
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
This descriptive study examined K–12 principals’ perspectives on providing and supporting school‑based professional development in one Midwestern state. Survey responses from 300 principals explored how they defined successful professional development, how they determined teacher learning needs, and the challenges they encountered. Findings revealed that principals valued professional development aligned with instructional improvement, yet many relied on their control of decision‑making processes. Professional development was commonly delivered by school or district personnel, funded through limited local and state resources, and typically offered in short sessions. Principals identified success through surveys, observations, and student achievement data while noting challenges related to funding, …
Designing Smart Charity: A Tri-Tiered Systems Engineering Framework For Global Capital Allocation, Christopher L. Eckes
Designing Smart Charity: A Tri-Tiered Systems Engineering Framework For Global Capital Allocation, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
Traditional philanthropic capital allocation models consistently exhibit binary systemic failure modes: low-velocity palliative aid loops that induce sovereign moral hazards, or hyper-insulated frontier engineering moonshots that leave present-day socio-economic baselines highly vulnerable to exogenous shocks. This specification introduces the Tri-Tiered Systems Engineering Framework for Philanthropy, an objective, non-weaponizable technical model that treats charitable giving as an essential infrastructure risk-management protocol rather than a speculative moral luxury.
By segmenting capital allocation into three distinct, non-interchangeable tiers—Palliative Stabilization (Tier 1), Environmental Upgrades (Tier 2), and Frontier Innovation (Tier 3)—this architecture models global civilizational utility as a complex physical system. We leverage historical …

Automated Software Defect Analysis And Prevention Via A Closed-Loop Knowledge Extraction Pipeline, Snigdha Saha, Zening Li, Shu-Wei Cheng
Defensive Publications Series
In large-scale software development, root-cause analysis can be a manual process that may not effectively connect production crashes to nuanced discussions from code reviews. A system for automated software defect analysis can use a closed-loop pipeline to extract engineering principles from historical development artifacts, such as code review comments, to create a structured, machine-readable knowledge base. An autonomous agent may use this knowledge base to analyze new code contributions, generating quantitative risk scores based on principle violations, disparities between developer intent and the code changes, and similarity to historical crash-inducing changes. This process may assist in accelerating root-cause analysis of …

Sensory Profile: Understanding Soothers And Stressors, Niki Elliott Ph.D.
Neuroinclusion
Sensory experiences shape how we move through the world: how we learn, focus, connect with others, and sustain energy across the day. For neurodiverse individuals in particular, sensory input is often central to how environments are experienced. Stress, fatigue, withdrawal, or overwhelm often emerge from a mismatch between a person’s sensory needs and the environments they are navigating, rather than from individual deficits or lack of effort. Lighting, noise, movement demands, unpredictability, clutter, and even well-intentioned routines can either support ease and participation or place additional strain on the nervous system. This Sensory Profile is designed to help individuals and …

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a key biomarker of mismatch repair deficiency and response to immunotherapy, yet most existing genomic detection methods are optimized for short-read sequencing and rely on a panel of homopolymer markers, limiting the ability to characterize genome-wide and motif-specific patterns of instability. Here we present Owl, a bioinformatic tool for quantifying MSI from long-read (PacBio) genomic data. Owl leverages a genome-wide marker set of more than 140,000 microsatellite repeats ranging from 1-6 bp in length to measure MSI across a phased genome. Using a wrap-around alignment algorithm, Owl constructs repeat-length distributions at each marker site and flags …
Precision Approaches Improve Community Health, Roger A. Rennekamp, David Buys
Precision Approaches Improve Community Health, Roger A. Rennekamp, David Buys
Journal of Extension
Recent advances in data science provide Extension practitioners with access to data sorted by zip code, census tract, or neighborhood. Such hyper-local data now allows Extension personnel to assess community needs and assets at a more granular level and focus their work on the people and communities of greatest need. In this article, we introduce an approach we refer to as precision public health. Using such a precision approach to community assessment and, ultimately, programming can save money, increase the likelihood of producing measurable results, and create more manageable workloads for county-based Extension personnel.

Irrigation Management With A Field Water Balance And Virus Incidence In Dahlia Cut Flowers, Chloe Seeborg, Melanie Stock, Claudia Nischwitz, Xin Dai, Cambry Adams, Burdette Barker
Plants, Soils and Climate Student Research
Irrigation guidelines are needed for the field production of emerging specialty crops to support the sustainability and economic viability of small farms. The goal of this study was to establish crop coefficients (Kc) of dahlia (Dahlia × hybrida), a popular, profitable cut flower crop, while documenting virus infection. A two-year field study was conducted with two industry-important cultivars that vary in production timing and bloom: ‘Boom Boom White’, an earlier and mid-sized formal decorative, and ‘Café au Lait’, a later and large informal decorative bloom type. A field water balance was used to evaluate five irrigation …

No Evidence For Modulation Of The Readiness Potential By Respiratory Phase During Natural Breathing, Lucas Jeay-Bizot, Raniyah Chisti, Uri Maoz, Aaron Schurger
Psychology Faculty Articles and Research
Respiratory processes are increasingly implicated in shaping neural activity and behavior. Recent studies have reported a coupling between respiratory phase and the cortical readiness potential (RP), suggesting that breathing may modulate the neural processes preceding voluntary action. Here, using electroencephalography recordings in humans, we re-examine this claim using the original dataset and a new independent dataset, as well as in simulated data with no coupling. We show that the reported association arises from a confound: both RP amplitude and respiratory phase are coupled to movement onset. The original analysis does not control for this dependency, leading to a spurious effect …

Ecofriendly Synthesis Of Silver Nanoparticles As Antimicrobial Active Agents From Its Cationic Precursors, Abdul Haris Watoni Watoni
Chimica et Natura Acta
This review presents a comprehensive survey on the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from silver nitrate precursor using plant extracts along with their characterization and antimicrobial activity assessment. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles through a green chemistry approach is increasingly in demand because it is environmentally friendly, easy to do, and efficient, especially for the purpose of antimicrobial active ingredients in disinfectant and antiseptic formulas. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles can be carried out using silver nitrate as a silver precursor and plant extracts as a source of bioreductants and capping agents. The synthesis products are then characterized using UV-Vis …

This article shares insights from a professional study tour of Danish early childhood education programmes, examining how social pedagogical principles are embedded in outdoor learning environments. During June 2024, a group of early childhood teacher educators from the United States visited forest kindergartens, adventure playgrounds and natural playscapes in Denmark as participants in the Nordic Outdoor Model of Education study tour. Through guided visits and observations, we documented pedagogical practices that demonstrate the application of social pedagogy– particularly the integration of head, heart and hands in supporting children’s holistic development. This article connects observed practices to social pedagogical theory, highlighting …
