This paper; "Port safety including handling, storage and disposal of dangerous goods," aims to enhance port safety and consequently efficiency and production in the ports of Namibia. It attempts to achieve this through the establishment of a soundly based safety policy common to all of the Namibian ports. The paper discusses the safety of employees; personnel protective equipment; safety conduct by the individual employees; legal obligations; plant and equipment; cargo handling gear and the disposal of dangerous cargo and the role of various national and international organizations in achieving port safety. Trends Of Eom, B(A)P, Sulfates, And Nitrates In Air-Borne Particulate Matter In Eleven Proximate Locations In New Jersey During 1988, Sathish Pushpala

Air-borne particulate matter was collected at eleven proximate locations in New Jersey during the year 1988. Particulate matter was extracted in cyclohexane and acetone to separate non-polar and polar components. Particulate matter was also analyzed for B(a)P, Sulfates and Nitrates.

This report presents the inter-site and intra-site variation of concentrations of pollutants between summer and winter seasons. Levels of B(a)P varied from 0.12 to 0.03 ng/M³ between urban and rural sites. During winter, B(a)P concentrations were 5 times more than summer. Concentrations of Cyc which represent mostly primary pollutants, were found 3 times lower in rural sites. Ace fractions …

By most accounts, black farmers in the United States are categorized as either limited resource or subsistence producers given an historic lack of access to credit, mechanical, and land resources. Additionally, advanced age and limited education have placed black farmers on the "endangered" list. Given these constraints to financial and human capital, black farmers have adopted survival strategies in an attempt to maintain their farms. Results presented here from research conducted in the Black Belt region of Alabama indicate that there is a high degree of participation in the off-farm workforce and reliance on off-farm income for black farm family …
