Association Between Health Literacy And Oral Health Behaviour Among Informal Sector Workers: A Case Study From North- Eastern Thailand, Aungsumalee Pholpark, Charay Vichatha, Orawan Prasitsiriphon, Napaporn Wanitkun, Thirampha Luphomma
Journal of Demography
Health literacy (HL) has been reported to be associated with health behaviour. However, evidence on HL and oral health behaviour is scarce. This cross-sectional pilot study aimed to compare HL across informal occupation groups and to examine the association between HL and oral health behaviour among informal sector workers in a district in Northeastern Thailand. The result of the study suggests that among 110 participants, general labourers had the lowest HL score compared with agricultural labourers and retailers. A regular dental visit was found to be associated with all eight HL domains: knowledge about service entitlements, resources that support health …

International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Objective: This study compares the physical properties and bioactivity of tricalcium silicate-based cement (Matreva MTA) modified with various concentrations of Aloe vera (AV) solutions and Biodentine cement.
Methods: Sixty discs were prepared, and divided into 5 groups (12 discs each) based on the estimated materials: group I: Biodentine, group II: Matreva MTA, group III: Matreva MTA with 10% AV, group IV: Matreva MTA with 20% AV and group V: Matreva MTA with 30% AV. The flow and setting time were assessed following ISO standard 6876:2012 and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard C266-21, respectively. The in-vitro bioactivity was …

Would Access Cavity Design Affect The Mechanical Behaviour Of Tooth : A Finite Element Study., Muhammad Ashraf Elhusseini, Engy Kataia, Hala Khalil
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Two distinct access cavity designs were used to access Two simulated finite element models (FE). (Lingual (LAC) and incisal (IAC)). Three experimental FE models, including the IT model, were developed: LAC and IAC. For every simulated model, one distinct radicular preparations was carried out of size #30/.04. The incisal edge was subjected to an occlusal cycle load of 120 N. The maximum von mises stresses (VMS), maximum principal stresses (MPS), and stress distribution patterns were assessed and calculated quantitatively. It was concluded that the mandibular incisor's biomechanical behavior is significantly influenced by the size of the access design. Biomechanically the …
Introductory Needs Assessment Of Latino Msm With Hiv Or Aids In Washington: Exploring Needs, Barriers To Care, And Wellbeing, Cullin Egge
SUURJ: Seattle University Undergraduate Research Journal
Although substantial progress has been made in the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States, health disparities and gaps in the federal response persist, particularly for Black/African Americans and Hispanic/Latinos. Undocumented and foreign-born Latinos are some of the most disproportionately affected by HIV-related issues. This study aims to analyze the needs and experiences of these populations in hopes of improving services and awareness at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. This research was conducted at my practicum agency in partial fulfillment of my Bachelor of Social Work requirements. This non-profit organization provides holistic health services to people living …

Moralistic Science: Socio-Cultural Norms About Sexuality In Indian Biology Education, Panchami Jose, Sugra Chunawala, Deepa Chari
Journal of International Women's Studies
This paper takes the position that the discourses of science and morality are not distinct within biology education; rather, they inform each other to produce, discipline, and regulate human sexuality. Our analysis of the medical and moral discussion on sexuality in a secondary school science textbook (the 12th standard National Council for Educational Research and Training textbook), along with insights from interviews with teachers, reveals that the texts portray a romanticized notion of sex that is limited to a monogamous heterosexual relationship. In the first part of the paper, we analyze how the biology textbook discusses “safer sex” in the …

The Nonperson Treatment In Higher Education: The Case Of Contingent Faculty, Roscoe Scarborough
The Nonperson Treatment In Higher Education: The Case Of Contingent Faculty, Roscoe Scarborough
The Journal of Public and Professional Sociology
This article applies Erving Goffman’s conceptual theory of the “nonperson treatment” to the empirical reality of contingent faculty in higher education. According to Goffman, the nonperson treatment is a technique of diminishing the social status of a person, often foregoing all acknowledgement of a person’s humanity beyond transactional civilities. Contingent faculty in higher education experience job insecurity, limited opportunities for advancement, low wages, insufficient benefits, a corporate style of management, curtailed academic freedom, alienation from faculty governance, ineligibility for professional development, limited schedule autonomy, invisibility on campus, and limited access to campus resources. The inequities and exclusionary practices faced by …

Sacramento Suburban Water District V. 3m Co., Loui E. Amos
Public Land & Resources Law Review
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”), popularly known as “forever chemicals,” have seeped into drinking water supplies across the country. Almost all Americans have an accumulation of these substances in their blood, creating serious health risks. This exposure has created a vast unknown liability for the manufacture of these chemicals. But who should pay for the remediation of the water supply and the health effects of PFAS exposure? Mass toxic tort litigation has become ineffective, with jurisdictional hurdles and defendants’ creative techniques to sidestep judgments, such as corporate bankruptcy strategies. This ineffectiveness demonstrates the need for a long-term strategy comprising legislative …

International Journal of Exercise Science
International Journal of Exercise Science 17(1): 611-622, 2024. Basketball players are prone to ankle injuries. It is unclear if wearing ankle compression garments (CGs) can enhance balance control and time to fatigue in those athletes. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of ankle CGs on both time to fatigue and single-leg balance. Sixteen Division II (D2) collegiate basketball players participated in the study. The Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) was used to assess ankle stability. Fatigue was induced through deficit heel raises, and single-leg balance was assessed with the Athletic Single Leg Stability Test (ASLST) of …

Credentialing Exam Hesitancy In Dietary Management Certificate Program Graduates: A First Look At Perceived Barriers, Sona Donayan
Journal of Research in Technical Careers
Certified dietary managers (CDMs) lead their food services team by ensuring food quality, safety, and palatability while applying nutrition principles to food purchasing, storage, preparation, and service. Despite labor shortages and forecasted growth in both healthcare and food services management jobs, approximately 30% of credentialing exam candidates forego their exam within the first year after completing a didactic career technical education program approved by the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals. Moreover, very few return to pursue their exam after the first year. This study explored, through the lens of the theory of planned behavior, the perceived obstacles contributing to …

Dentistry And The Law: Taking Records When Leaving A Practice, Dan Schulte Jd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
MDA Legal Counsel Dan Schulte advises on departing partner issues: without contracts, disputes arise regarding records, patient ownership, and practice buyout. Employment and shareholder agreements ensure orderly transitions and protect practice interests. Patient records legally belong to the practice, and transferring them without consent violates laws. Patients can request records, but fees apply. Schulte stresses the importance of agreements to avoid costly disputes and ensure continuity of care.
