Cultural competence is a key metric in the accreditation of U.S. counseling education and supervision (CES) programs, with diversity among faculty members in counselor training programs a key consideration. There has been a spike in overdoses in the United States resulting in approximately 100,306 deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic began with overdose results from men in opioid and fentanyl abuse with a shortage of resources for substance use disorders and mental health. Reducing maternal mortality rates is one of the leading health indicators in the nation. Pregnant and postpartum Black mothers make up a disproportionate number of maternal deaths. Many result from failure to rescue (FTR), defined as the inability to prevent a death from a disease, illness, or complication. Over 700 women die daily from preventable causes related to pregnancy. Black patients are attributable to almost 40% of maternity mortality rates and represent over 50% of pregnancy-related deaths due to complications. In a Midwestern nonprofit, predominantly White, Catholic university, the problem was low retention of African American students after completing a first-year seminar (FYS) course. The purpose of this instrumental case study was to explore perceptions and challenges of African American college students and faculty about the required FYS course. Using Tinto’s persistence theory, perceptions and challenges of students and faculty at the study site were explored. Data were collected using semistructured interviews with 10 African American students and a focus group with five faculty who taught the FYS course. The purpose of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction before and after the implementation of the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) communication tool in a medical-surgical unit of an urban hospital. While there is considerable research on mental health, student mental health, and the importance of mental health, little empirical research has been conducted on rural student mental health in the United States. In this doctoral project, I focused on educating healthcare staff on using the situation-background-assessment-recommendation (SBAR) communication tool to improve documentation practices and reimbursement rates from Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. My goal for the project was to determine if training on the SBAR tool would improve healthcare providers' knowledge of how to use it for documentation. Person-environment (P-E) fit, particularly in recruitment, has gained significant attention, expanding beyond the traditional focus on job-applicant compatibility to include alignment with team and organizational dynamics. Despite its importance, there is no consensus on how to effectively measure this fit, which limits its predictive power for employee outcomes. This quantitative correlational study addressed this gap by examining the predictive validity of congruence between candidates’ psychological characteristics and various facets of the work environment among software engineers.
