Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was a staff education initiative aimed at addressing the critical practice problem of delayed sepsis identification in emergency room (ER) settings. Addressing this gap is crucial to nursing practice because timely intervention for sepsis significantly reduces morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. The practice-focused question underpinning this project was, How does staff education on early sepsis identification impact knowledge regarding screening accuracy in a 42-bed emergency department (ED)? To assess the effectiveness of the educational intervention, I designed pre- and posteducation surveys, both with 10 questions each, which I administered to participants via …

The need for the program was prompted by the increasing use of telehealth services and the necessity for consistent mental health evaluation tools. I aimed to educate mental health staff about evidence-based practices using the PHQ-9 in telehealth to enhance the quality of care for patients with depression in remote settings. Analytical methods included administering pre- and postintervention tests to measure changes in staff knowledge …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adults who grew up experiencing childhood maltreatment may struggle more frequently with interpersonal relationships and may have low resilience, which may create ongoing struggles with having meaningful, healthy relationships with others, especially within their parent–child relationships. Individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) are 13 times more likely to endorse multiple childhood adverse experiences (ACEs) than their peers and struggle to have a secure attachment to others. However there has been limited research focused on exploring parental availability and family resilience in a home with a parent diagnosed with BPD, addressing low emotional availability and parent–child bonding. Performance-Based Funding Models And Student Outcomes At Community And Technical Colleges, Victoria Ichungwa

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Performance-based funding (PBF) models have become increasingly prevalent in higher education. While designed to improve student outcomes, their effectiveness, particularly at community and technical colleges (CTCs), remains uncertain. Given CTCs' crucial role in providing equitable education, understanding PBF’s effectiveness is imperative for equitable funding. In this study the relationship between the Student Achievement Initiative (SAI) model and student outcomes at the Washington State CTCs was examined. Existing research on PBF is limited, often focusing on 4-year institutions and lagging outcomes using proxy data. These gaps were addressed by examining student outcomes for the 34 Washington State CTCs using secondary archival …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The burden of the disease in the region is partly attributed to delayed health-seeking, resulting in advanced disease presentation, delayed diagnosis, poor outcomes, and low survival. This quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the socioecological factors that influence the anticipated medical health-seeking time for women in SSA experiencing breast cancer symptoms. The socioecological model (SEM) theoretical framework guided this study. A questionnaire was used to collect data from randomly selected (N = 343) women aged 18 years and older with no personal or familial history of breast …
