Capital Structure Strategies For Catalyzing The Growth Of Mining Companies In Developing Countries, Pepe Kalombo Kapompa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A lack of effective strategies to develop capital structures affects operational profit and growth. Consequently, leaders of mining companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo are concerned about the significant financial losses resulting from these deficiencies. Grounded in trade-off theory of capital structure, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies that leaders of mining companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo used to develop capital structures that enhance operational profit and growth. The participants included three business leaders from three mining companies who successfully implemented such strategies. Data were collected from semistructured interviews and company …
Exploring The Adaptation And Implementation Of Social–Emotional Learning Programs, Jennifer Poteet
Exploring The Adaptation And Implementation Of Social–Emotional Learning Programs, Jennifer Poteet
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Teacher led social–emotional learning programs are implemented in a variety of ways to mitigate the effects of school bullying, however little attention has been paid to their academic impact on middle school students. The theories and/or concepts that grounded this study include Bronfenbrenner’s (1977) ecological theory and social cognitive theory. The purpose of this quantitative study was to assess the impact of Second Step, a social–emotional learning program with 16,166 middle school students. Multiple linear regression was used to examine the relationship between student gender, ethnicity, Second Step program participation, and program fidelity on the students’ mathematics and reading assessment …
Predictors Of Mental Health Seeking Behaviors Among Nigerian Immigrants, Francisca Iroh-Donawa
Predictors Of Mental Health Seeking Behaviors Among Nigerian Immigrants, Francisca Iroh-Donawa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Understanding the mental health seeking attitudes (MHSA) of Nigerian immigrants is a social concern for psychologists as it provides valuable information for developing outreach and clinical interventions. Unfortunately, there is scant and inconclusive research addressing potential predictors of MHSA among Nigerian immigrants, thus leaving clinicians with an unclear picture in understanding and the promoting the wellbeing of this vulnerable population. To address this gap, this study utilized the theory of planned behavior and Berry’s model of acculturation to explore if acculturation (positively), length of stay in host country (positively), religious and spiritual beliefs (negatively), and gender (women higher than men) …
Experiences Of Teachers Who Left The Profession In Their First 5 Years, Rashemia Bennett
Experiences Of Teachers Who Left The Profession In Their First 5 Years, Rashemia Bennett
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Recent studies show that teachers are leaving the profession at a rapid rate, which is leading to a shortage in the classroom that is impacting school districts across the United States. Teachers are leaving the profession within their first 5 years of teaching as opposed to finishing their careers and retiring. Studies show that teachers leave the profession for various reasons, such as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, lack of resources, student behaviors, and personal accomplishment. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to learn about the experiences of teachers who left the profession within the first 5 years of teaching …

Parental Support Experiences During The Covid-19 Pandemic While Supervising 9th – 12th Grade Student Learning, Sarah E. White
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the lives of parents, children, and families in numerous ways. These impacts included increased parental involvement in remote learning. This was an ongoing situation where parents were supervising and being highly involved in their student’s education. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the parental support experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic while supervising high school student learning. Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory was used as a theoretical foundation to understand the experiences of parents. This theory related to support systems, which was relevant during COVID-19 when remote learning changed the interactions between in-person students and …

Residence, Education, Wealth, And Hiv/Aids Prevention Knowledge Among Nigerian Adults, Chinedu Nwaobia Nwaru
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
HIV has remained the most prevalent and deadliest epidemic affecting humanity. It is pertinent to note that, despite the number of years since the first case was reported in the early 1980s in the United States, and concerted efforts by local, national, and international governmental and nongovernmental agencies at curbing it, the level of knowledge of HIV transmission and the disease prevention, especially among Nigerians, is still not encouraging. Nigeria, the most populous country in Sub-Saharan Africa ranks second globally as the country with the highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS, which is currently estimated at 3 million. In …

Lived Experiences Of Geriatric African American Males In Recovery And Participation In Spiritual Social-Oriented Communities, Gail Venerable
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Substance use among older persons has increased among the aging baby boomer generation. At the same time, individuals aged 65 and beyond see increased longevity. The utilization of alcohol and drugs as a means of managing associated challenges has been shown to contribute to health problems that lead to a diminished quality of life and early death rates. Empirical investigations have demonstrated that social-oriented interventions such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) have a beneficial role in sustaining an individual’s recovery process. However, joining such programs may pose challenges for African American males 65 and older due to African Americans’ distrust of …

Treatment for eating disorders in adolescents is constantly changing and improving. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a major transition to telehealth treatment. Studies on the efficacy and experience of telehealth have mainly focused on clients and families, leaving out clinician perspectives. Little research has also been done on how telehealth can be improved on now that it is more commonly used. Lewin’s field theory formed the framework for this qualitative study to explore clinicians’ suggestions to improve telehealth treatment for eating disorders. Ten specialized mental health clinicians provided data collected using two sequenced questionnaires. Analysis of the …

Exploring School Leaders’ Experiences Allocating Financial Resources To Support Technology Integration Learning, Joshua Armstrong
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
America's local education agencies (LEAs) often struggle with technology integration learning (TIL). There is a lack of understanding about how leadership is planning and financially managing the allocation of budgeted dollars to support TIL. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of public school leaders involved with financial management and the planning of resources to support TIL. Mishra’s and Koehler’s technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge framework grounded this study on how leadership planning and financial management affect teachers’ technological skills and professional development when incorporating TIL in public schools.
