In this study the following hypotheses are examined: 1. Nathan and Ruth Hale have made significant contributions to the L.D.S. Church and to the theatre; 2. The theatres operated by the Hales have demonstrated that it is possible and profitable to run a theatre in accordance with L.D.S. Church standards and ideals; 3. Theatre of this type has an audience, and in fact, is demanded by communities; 4. Artists in the theatre can be a forceful missionary tool for the Church.

One of the purposes of this thesis is to investigate the importance of the cartoon caricature styles that have been developed throughout history. Another purpose is to explain the development of my cartoon caricatures and their importance in depicting ideology. This thesis will also be concerned with the development of a caricature attitude, and caricature forms as depicted in an exhibition. The exhibit, submitted as a part of this written work, is an assorted collection of various cartoon images which can help in furthering an understanding of my personal attitude and interpretation.

This thesis is an attempt to establish some insight into my personal aesthetic and creative philosophy as it relates to the metaphysical world I perceive. It will bring out points which I consider relevant and will give reference to the role that various past influences have had.

This thesis also will attempt to show examples of the chain of events in which my present work evolves from my past work. Since my viewpoints are constantly bombarded by new and various stimuli my endeavors continuously try to deal with those factors.

Since becoming a student at brigham young university in September, 1965, the writer has been interested in the area of persuasion as it relates to public speaking, and especially as it relates to stake missionary activities. The purpose in this thesis is to determine selected characteristics of converts as listeners from Brigham Young University to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and compare them with characteristics determined by Audience Analysis by Wayne C. Minnick in his book "The Art of Persuasion".

An Analysis Of The Speaking Style Of Charles W. Penrose, Kent Shelley Davis

The purpose of this thesis was to determine the public speaking style of Charles W. Penrose. The problem was investigated by using the elements of a speaking situation, the speaker, the speech, the audience, and the occasion. Three speeches were used; namely, "Remarks on Union" given on January 19, 1879, "Women Suffrage" given on June 3, 1889, and "Graphic Glimpses of Pioneer Life" given on February 4, 1924. Seven selected criteria were used as guidelines for the evaluation of the speeches; namely, accuracy, clarity, propriety, economy, force, striking quality, and liveliness.

The problem of this study was to investigate Brigham Young's recreational philosophy, views, practices and activities. This historical research was conducted and information gathered from Brigham Young's journals, the Manuscript History of Brigham Young, compilations of Brigham Young's discourses, books and articles written by his daughters, accounts written by those who were present when recreational events occurred, compilations of manuscripts and documents, and interpretations of various historians who interpreted events as they read them.

Henry Fielding is more widely known as a novelist than a playwright. Except for Tom Thumb, his dramatic works are largely ignored. And yet many of these plays enjoyed great success in Fielding's time. This edition presents a critical, old-style text of two of Fielding's most popular plays, both of which are adaptations of Molière: The Mock Doctor; or the Dumb Lady Cur'd, taken from Le Médecin Malgré Lui, and The Miser, taken from L'Avare. This thesis documents the designing and mounting of the children's play, The Tingalary Bird. Designing included the set, properties and furniture, costume, make-up, lighting, and sound. A stylized concept was followed throughout the entire production. A bird cage set, furniture, and properties were built with function, mobility, color, and shape as the primary design elements. Costumes, built from day-glow colored fabric and make-up characterizing doll-like features were coordinated for an overall stylized effect. Lighting, including ultraviolet light, and tape-recorded sound, ranging from pipe organ to acid rock which periodically added a definite mood and emphasis to the plot, accentuated the …

This thesis describes and analyzes the marketing practices of selected banks in North Dakota. The data were obtained principally from a survey of banks in North Dakota. A mail questionnaire was sent to all banks with over $5,000,000 in deposits and a 73 percent return was received. The main topics discussed in the thesis were: historical development of bank marketing, bank marketing activities, bank marketing planning, bank marketing management, retail and wholesale marketing practices, pricing bank services, budgeting for bank marketing activities and advertising practices of North Dakota banks.

In January, 1914, the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought out the first issue of what was to become the Relief Society Magazine. Before this, the women of the Church had been served by the Women's Exponent, founded in 1872 as the second women's publication in the west. During 1914, the Exponent's successor was a monthly guide to the Relief Society's coursework, known as the Bulletin. In January, 1915, it became the Relief Society Magazine.

The purpose of this thesis is to discover those experimental theatre techniques which can best express a Mormon theme: that one must become as a child to enter the kingdom of God. The focus of this study is the various treatments given by composers to a twelve line poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The text is the common factor over which the differences of approach and treatment are laid by composers in compositions which range in time of initial publication from 1796 to 1888. This study provides a historical record of Grand Forks theatrical activity during a part of the last decade of the nineteenth century (1890-1897) when the Metropolitan theatre operated under local management. A focus on the cultural climate of the city relative to the theatrical activity provides a full range analysis of the theatre's operation and the events produced. Newspapers comprise te most valuable source of material with manuscripts, printed records, and interviews also contributing to this evaluation.
