An Authentication Framework For Wearable Devices, Abdullah Alharbi
An Authentication Framework For Wearable Devices, Abdullah Alharbi
Theses and Dissertations
The popularity of wearable devices (WDs) has been growing rapidly in recent years because of the convenience they add to users lives. Although WDs may be considered an extension of mobile computing devices (e.g., smartphones), their form factor is very different: WDs are always available and expected to be accessible, and they often lack typical input means such as a keyboard. Therefore, they need to be treated, in terms of authentication, differently than other computing devices since we cannot simply apply possibly unsuitable traditional authentication methods such as password that were designed for other modalities. In this dissertation, we introduce …
Determining The Relationship Between Aging And Oxidative Stress In A Drosophila Melanogaster P38 Kb Framework, Aleksandra J. Majewski
Determining The Relationship Between Aging And Oxidative Stress In A Drosophila Melanogaster P38 Kb Framework, Aleksandra J. Majewski
Theses and Dissertations
Aging is inevitable for all organisms and can be characterized by degeneration of tissue, adecrease in motor function, and impaired stress response. In humans, it is often accompanied by an increased propensity for age related diseases. While all adults experience biological aging (senescence) not all adults experience age-associated disease. Thus, we claim these are not normal prospects of aging. Although the implications of aging are well understood, the molecular underpinnings for these processes remain elusive. As advances in medical science have been successful at prolonging lifespan, they concurrently extend the amount of time spend in diseased states. If we wish …
An Investigation Of The Cortical Learning Algorithm, Anthony C. Samaritano
An Investigation Of The Cortical Learning Algorithm, Anthony C. Samaritano
Theses and Dissertations
Pattern recognition and machine learning fields have revolutionized countless industries and applications from biometric security to modern industrial assembly lines. The fields continue to accelerate as faster, more efficient processing hardware becomes commercially available. Despite the accelerated growth of the pattern recognition and machine learning fields, computers still are unable to learn, reason, and perform rudimentary tasks that humans and animals find routine. Animals are able to move fluidly, understand their environment, and maximize their chances of survival through adaptation - animals demonstrate intelligence. A primary argument in this thesis that we have not yet achieved a level of intelligence …
Perovskite Solar Cells Fabricated Via Scalable Dip Coating Methods, Joseph F. Iannello
Perovskite Solar Cells Fabricated Via Scalable Dip Coating Methods, Joseph F. Iannello
Theses and Dissertations
Perovskite solar cells present the possibility for less expensive electricity generation, through the use of low cost materials and fabrication methods relative to current silicon-based technology. Many current methods of fabricating thin film perovskite solar cells focus on spin-coating, which inherently lacks scalability due to particle conglomeration, poor uniformity over a larger area, and safety concerns. Dip-coating, an alternative to spin-coating, which is explored here addresses these issues which limit scalability. Each individual layer can be separately synthesized, deposited, and characterized, which leads towards scalability. Choosing only the best results from each independent layer allowed progress to the creation of …

Studies On Inositol Polyphosphate-Mediated Cell Death Process In Dictyostelium Discoideum And Its Sensitivity To Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, Qudes Ali Al-Anbaky
Theses and Dissertations
Inositol polyphosphates (InsPs) are naturally occurring compounds that are widely distributed in both plant and animal cells. They regulate a variety of cellular processes including programmed cell death or apoptosis. Apoptosis maintains tissue homeostasis in higher organisms. Among inositol polyphosphates, inositolhexakisphosphate was found to be the most potent inducer of apoptosis in mammalian cells, however, the mechanism of apoptosis particularly mediated by InsPs is not well understood in simple eukaryotes such as Dictyostelium discoideum, despite InsPs having been well studied in this model organism. MTT (3-(4, 5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide, LDH, and trypan blue assays were used to investigate the cytotoxic …
