Effect Of Organic And Inorganic Silver Complexing Agents On Image Quality, Stephen Scharfstein
Effect Of Organic And Inorganic Silver Complexing Agents On Image Quality, Stephen Scharfstein
Theses
Image Quality of plus-x film processed in a monobath solution containing an inorganic silver complexing agent ( sodium thiosulfate ), was compared to plus-x film processed in an organic silver complexing agent ( mercaptoacetic acid ). A control run using DK-50 was also made. The image quality of the film was best with DK-50 and worst with mercaptoacetic acid. Image quality was determined by the results of the following tests: 1 ) Resolving Power 2 ) Acutance 3 ) MFT 4 ) Granularity
Image Spread In The Infectious Development Of Graphic Arts Film, William Colgan
Image Spread In The Infectious Development Of Graphic Arts Film, William Colgan
Theses
The problem of this experiment is to determine which of three factors; sulfite level, bromine level, and development time, affect the image spreading during the infectious development of a graphic arts film. Three different levels of each factor will be studied. The method used consists of measuring the distance between two fine edges on a test target. This test target is then contact printed onto the graphic arts film. The distance between the two fine edges on the graphic arts film is then measured. Any difference between the two distances will be the result of image spreading. It is these …
The Usability Of Tungsten Halogen Lamps As Secondary Standards Of Luminous Intensity, James Buchek
The Usability Of Tungsten Halogen Lamps As Secondary Standards Of Luminous Intensity, James Buchek
Theses
Tungsten halogen lamps are widely used as sources of radiant intensity because of their compactness and long life. Little is known, however, about their usefulness as secondary standards of radiant intensity. What is unknown is the polar distribution of the emitted light. If it is irregular in space, it may be possible to use a frosting as a means of providing for a more uniform distribution. In addition, use of a black sleeve over the lamp may be used to control emitted light, and also control the temperature of the lamp. To perform the experiment, a lampholder was designed and …

Rate Of Reduction Of Silver Ions And Silver Complexes In Solution With Developers, Richard Shadrach
Rate Of Reduction Of Silver Ions And Silver Complexes In Solution With Developers, Richard Shadrach
Theses
The change in rate of reduction of silver from solutions of varying silver ion and silver sulfite complex by hydroquinone and metol was studied. The silver ion concentration was varied and the silver complex concentration was held constant. The rate was found proportional to the square root of the silver ion concentration for development by hydroquinone. The silver complex concentration was varied and the silver ion concentration was held constant. The rate of reduction increased as the complex concentration increased for both hydroquinone and metol developing agents, showing that the complex was being reduced. The rate appeared to be proportional …

A Comparison Of Phenidone Determinations In Photographic P.Q. Developers, Ernest Dankert Jr
A Comparison Of Phenidone Determinations In Photographic P.Q. Developers, Ernest Dankert Jr
Theses
Five methods for determining Phenidone in Phenidone-hydroquinone were investigated with aspect to accuracy, precision, and time required to perform the analysis. The methods include ultraviolet spectroscopy, colorimetric estimation, and cerimetric titrations. A cerimetric analysis was found to have the greatest precision, a 7% error at the 95% confidence level. All analyses required approximately the same time to complete. Each analysis allowed the accuracy to be adjusted, i0 compensate for operator techniques

An Experimental Study Of Parametric Pump, Khalid Omar Ranginwala
An Experimental Study Of Parametric Pump, Khalid Omar Ranginwala
Theses
In this research for Master's Project, the possibility for separation of glucose and fructose by parametric pumping was investigated. In this research activated carbon was used as adsorbent. First Langmuir's isotherms for glucose and fructose were experimentally found. These results were utilized in the thermal parametric pumping. The pump was run semicontinuously. Parametric pumping was also carried out with KCl +H2O solution using a resin as adsorbent, and the 'b' value of KCl was found.

A Study Of Latent Image Fading In So-343, Mitchell Glasser
A Study Of Latent Image Fading In So-343, Mitchell Glasser
Theses
Experimental evidence indicates that a high intensity, short duration exposure produces surface image exclusively in this emulsion. The ensuing fading was shown not to be caused by internal migration of the latent image. The high intensity exposure produced a massive amount of sub image nuclei which could subsequently be rendered developable by a low intensity post exposure. This latensification failed to achieve an improvement in image stability, in that the amount of fading was shown to be solely a function of the density of the fresh exposure. It was hypothesized that although this treatment did raise some grains from an …

Analog Control Of Sampled-Data Systems, Harry Trietley
Analog Control Of Sampled-Data Systems, Harry Trietley
Theses
The use of conventional analog controllers to produce a one- quarter -decay transient response in sampled output control systems is studied. In particular, the control of processes which can be adequately represented by a first order lag plus deadtime is analyzed, where the process deadtime does not exceed the sampling interval. The process output is measured by a sample-and-hold device, which introduces additional deadtime equal to the sampling interval. This extends previous work, which considered only the plant delay. Proportional and proportional- integral (two-mode) controllers are studied. Controller settings yielding a one-quarter-decay transient response are calculated using z-transform theory. Plant …
Investigation Of The Relation Between The Adjacency Effects At An Edge Produced By Nitrogen-Burst And Viscous Processing, Richard Hooker
Investigation Of The Relation Between The Adjacency Effects At An Edge Produced By Nitrogen-Burst And Viscous Processing, Richard Hooker
Theses
Adjacency effects in nitrogen-burst and viscous processing of Eastman Fine Grain Release Positive Film, Type 5302, (in well-buffered Phenidone-hydroquinone developers) were measured by edge exposure microdensitometer scans. A well-buffered basic formulation containing 10 grams of hydroquinone and 1 gram of Phenidone at a pH of 10.5 was chosen for study. Sensitivity to pH and concentration level was tested by independently reducing the developing-agent concentrations by 30 percent and 50 percent, and the pH to 10.2. Chemically equivalent formulations for viscous development were produced by thickening the developer solutions with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. No significant adjacency effects were observed for nitrogen-burst …
An Experimental Study Of Equilibrium Parametric Pumps, John A. Park
An Experimental Study Of Equilibrium Parametric Pumps, John A. Park
Theses
Parametric pumping is a separation process characterized by periodic changes in axial displacement, coupled with synchronized changes in some variable affecting the position of the interphase equilibrium. Both continuous and semicontinuous pumps were investigated at various operating conditions using a model system of toluene-n-hep-tane on a silica gel adsorbent. It has been shown that when the penetration distance for the cold cycle is less than or equal to that for the hot cycle and the height of the column, the pump has the capacity of complete removal of solute from one product stream. A quantity which is important in determining …
A Study Of Fluid Flow Entering A Sharp-Edged Channel, Rocco Racano
A Study Of Fluid Flow Entering A Sharp-Edged Channel, Rocco Racano
Theses
Experimental investigations were carried out on an newtonian fluid In the two dimensional case through the regions of a sharp-edged entrance and exit. Qualitative and quantitative results were compared to a variation of a two dimensional case of converging flow in a capillary as originally derived by Oka and proposed by Philippoff. In addition velocity profiles were taken in the entrance region. Furthermore, the effect of temperature gradients in the slit region with their resulting optical effects were considered. The methods used to obtain these goals were photoelasticity and streak photography.
Results were four, to be consistent with the theory …
