This study will present a simple, quick, and inexpensive way to producing sinusoidal test targets, which can then be used in measuring the image quality of a photographic system by way of a coherent system. The sinusoidal test targets will be produced from a series of bar targets using Fourier Optics, and a comparison study will be made between measuring MTF with a laser and a microdensitometer. A defocused target series will also be produced to note the change in MTF of the photographic system. The purpose of this investigation was to develop a method that could be used to estimate the necessary bore load on a part quenched in a quenching machine with an expanding segmented die. Such a method would be of special benefit to gear manufacturers with little quenching experience; and it could also help to greatly reduce or eliminate the very costly trial and error procedure presently used. Stereoscopic Analysis Of Fatigue Products Of Photochromic Triarylemethane Leucocyanide Dyes, Thomas Stanzione

Thin layer chromatography and infrared spectroscopy were used to identify the fatigue products of malachite green, crystal violet, and new fuschine leucocyanides in dimethylsulfoxide and reagent alcohol. In DMSO solutions, a yellow substance with an absorption peak near 350 nanometers and a decomposition product of DMSO were found. The latter product appeared to be a mixture of several compounds, including water, dimethylsulfite , and dimethylsulfone, and was found to cause unfatigued solutions to fatigue with no exposure. In leucocyanide in reagent alcohol solutions , the leucohydroxide and leucoethoxide forms of the dyes were found in fatigued solutions. The Rf values …

The Correlation Of Hammett Substituent And Brownstein Solvent Constants With Photochromic Properties Of Triarylmethane Dye Leucocyanides, Robert Bayley

Theses

Five triarylmethane leucocyanides were synthesized from their parent dyes, and a photochromic test apparatus was designed and fabricated. The leucocyanides were tested for sensitivity and fade time in six solvents. The data was found to correlate well with Hammett substituent constants and with Brownstein solvent coefficients with certain exceptions.

The Timoshenko beam equation in terms of variable 'wB' is derived where 'wB’ is the deflection due to the bending of a beam. The equation is used to analyze an infinite beam loaded with (i) a concentrated transverse load and (ii) an impulse. It is also shown that the rotatory damping in the equation eliminates the increasing amplitude in the propagation of the bending moment when an impulse is applied to an infinite beam. Also the general procedure for the anlysis of a non-homogeneous equation is explained.

This thesis investigates the application of art therapy for the evaluation and treatment of emotionally disturbed children, with a specific focus on the use of clay and Media Dimension Variables (MDV). This research examines the psychological and sociological variables that predict whether an abused wife will leave or remain with an abusive partner. The author evaluates four primary theoretical frameworks: masochism theory, learned helplessness theory, modeling theory, and intrafamily victimization theory. To test hypotheses generated by these theories, in-depth interviews were conducted with fifty randomly selected clients from a center for abused women in St. Louis.

The study identifies three major factors that significantly predict an abused wife’s decision to leave:

This thesis collates the state of the art for flow induced excitation in a turbomachine stage under subsonic incompressible flow conditions. Theoretical developments are considered first, beginning with the vortex theories of Kemp and Sears, Henderson, Horlock and Holmes. Actuator disk analyses of Whitehead, Henderson and Horlock, and Horlock, Greitzer and Henderson are then considered followed by field theories of Osborne, Warner and Steele. Computer programs based on these theories are described and detailed input/output instructions are given. Four hundred twenty-five women religious from one order, residing in the midwestern states of Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, Texas and Louisiana, were mailed a questionnaire designed to determine the amount of stress experienced in one year, and the amount of illness suffered by those same persona during the same time period. Two hundred fourteen sisters responded to the questionnaire. Analysis of data by age groups revealed positive correlations between life stress and illness. Comparison of illness score between older and younger sisters showed no significant differences. Young sister tended to have high stress and illness scores, whereas older sisters had lower …

This monograph addresses some of the specific problems related to counseling parents of defective newborns. It describes the experience of the writer over a five year period, 1972- 1977, in the neonatal unit of Goergetown University Hospital , Washington, D.C. During this period approximately two hundred fifty parents of defective newborns and may times that number of parent of children with lesser problems, utilized the hospital's services. My direct counseling experience was with thirty of these parents during the process of making the very difficult decisions about continuing support care for their critically ill infants.
