In this project the use of phototherapy in the psychological assessment process was proposed and explored. The conceptual roots for the phototherapy assessment used here can be found in phenomenological psychological literature, in the history and exploration of photography as an expressive art medium, and in the work of social scientists researching the use of photography in human study. The thesis problem is to produce a sensitometer to expose photographic color paper to be used as control strips in a photographic color paper process. This problem involves designing, constructing, and verifying the sensitometer. Designing the sensitometer is done by looking at different methods of exposing each dye layer of a photographic color paper. These methods include: fiber optics or light guides, light integrating devices, and projection systems. The method which was chosen for this experiment is the projection system. With an appropriate lens, focusing arrangement, film and processing, motor driven 35mm cameras will attain resolutions of hundreds of line pairs per millimeter. The combination of a narrow depth of focus, unusually thin films, a relatively large film gate and rapidly advancing films can produce imagery with less than optimum resolution across or within individual frames. A vacuum platen and an additional styrene pressure plate were fitted to a motorized 35mm camera in an effort to insure the film lies flat. The research that has been done deals with the increase in the precision of measurement under low magnification. There were four factors used in the field of view of a microscope to attempt an increase in precision. The factors were 10X and 20X magnifications, light intensities, and Kodak Wratten filters Nos. 58 and 45A. The precision of measurement was increased in the positive ticks and edges with factors other than high magnification.

Halftone Dot Method For Image Evaluation Of High-Resolution Films Applied To Vesicular Film, Mark Gulden

A feasible technique for deriving the spread function and modulation transfer function of a vesicular film has been determined. This technique is based on a method described by R. Byer which does not require the use of a microdensitometer, but only that of a "macro" densitometer. The method utilizes the fact that a halftone dot will change in size as a function of exposure. The spread function of the vesicular film was approximated with a mathematical model. The results, although favorable in many ways, are not conclusive. The effects due to iodide in a silver bromide octahedral crystal on the absorption spectra of adsorbed 3,3'-Diethyl-9- Methylthiacarbocyanine and 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3',9- Triethylthiacarbocyanine were investigated. It was found that iodide encouraged Ja-band aggragation for 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3;9-Triethylthiacarbocyanine but not for 3,3’-Diethyl-9-Methylthiacarbocyanine. The suggestion is made that iodide is acting as nucleation centers for 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3',9-Triethylthiacarbocyanine.

Ultrasonic Flaw Detection, Wayne Buchar

An ultrasonic microscope was designed and constructed to detect surface flaw defects on materials which contain natural discontinuities. The application of this flaw detection system to via-fill defects of single layer multiple layer ceramic substrates was considered. The microscope was evaluated for its depth sensitivity and resolution capabilities. The results of the experiment are that the ultrasonic system has repeatable depth sensitivities of better than ten microns, and resolution capabilities on the order of 3.3 cycles per millimeter. The application of the flaw detector to ceramic substrate via-fill defect inspection was verified.

The control system described in this thesis is a low cost system designed to control the speed of an electric vehicle by adjusting the speed of a compound wound DC motor. The speed control method developed in this system is a combination of battery tapping, for control of the armature voltage, and pulse width modulation for field control; both generated by a microprocessor. Using a microprocessor, the control system is readily adaptable to a variety of motor voltages and motor control techniques by modifying the internal firmware of the processor. Most run on paper offset newspapers have not shown the capability of producing color reproductions without having the prints subject to a darkening or a muddy look. This problem is basically caused by the absorbency of the newsprint. Since the newsprint is so absorbent, the ink can only be printed to a low solid ink density and coarse screens must be used so the dots do not fill-in. The study was conducted to determine the relationships between a standard color and its visually chosen limits. Commonly, limits or tolerances are communicated to printers using an Allen Tolerance Chart. The Allen Chart, used extensively by package printers, provides a standard of the color to be reproduced along with corresponding light and dark limits. A second form of tolerance chart, used by printers of U. S. Department of Transportation hazardous materials warning labels, provides limits for colors three dimensionally.
