This paper concentrates on whether structured preschool programs enhance a child's learning potential in kindergarten. Through research this writer will attempt to find out if the child who attends a structured preschool program will score significantly higher on standardized readiness tests than t hose who have only training by parents in the home.

This study explores the impact of handheld calculator use on student achievement in middle school mathematics, with a focus on seventh-grade instruction in decimal algorithms. Conducted at Wentzville Junior High School, the research involved a three-week instructional unit on decimals taught to two groups of seventh-grade students—one using calculators and the other employing traditional paper-and-pencil methods. Pretests and posttests were administered to measure student performance, while classroom observations and teacher feedback were used to assess engagement and problem-solving strategies.

This thesis explores the role of physical touch as an adjunct to psychotherapy, analyzing both its therapeutic benefits and potential risks. Touch, defined in this study as physical contact including handshakes, touches on the arm or shoulder, hugs, kisses, and massage, is considered a fundamental human need and communication tool that extends across cultures and species. The following work has been computer simulated. A cumulative gaussian step response and the step response of a photographic emulsion 1 were taken through the derivative-transform edge gradient analysis technique and Tatian's method of analysis. Random noise levels, truncation intervals and sampling intervals on the analytic edges were varied to determine their influence on each technique. The variance and means of the calculated m.T.F.s were then statistically tested for no difference of the two techniques. This investigation applied the technique of spatial filtering to a projection printer utilizing partially coherent illumination. The affect of filtering on image quality parameters such as resolution, edge gradient and MTF were determined for a black and white film. Edge gradient analysis was used to derive MTF data from sampled edges. A source diameter of 3 mm and spatial filter diameters of .6, 2.2, and 3.0 mm were used. Spatial filtering was seen to have a drastic affect on edge gradient and MTF. Increasing the filter diameter resulted in a decrease of cutoff frequency of the system. Spatial filtering had …

In this project, an exposure meter which is sensitive to, and calibrated for infrared radiation was designed and constructed. An EG&G SGD-100A silicon photodiode was chosen to use as the photodetector. This choice was based on cost, availability, ruggedness, stability, and sensitivity. A circuit using an operational amplifier to amplify the output of the photodetector was used. The circuit design allowed easy variation of the signal gain to give a detectable meter deflection under varying lighting conditions. An attempt was made to correct the spectral sensitivity of a silicon photodiode, by using optical filters, to match the spectral sensitivity of Kodalith ortho film, type 3, 2556, and Kodalith pan film, 2568, respectively. The correction would allow the diode to be used with a light-integrator and light source of varying spectral power distribution, when these films are used. A Corning 978 2 blue/green filter was used for the ortho film and an O.C.L.I. detector trimmer, was used for the pan film. The Kenworthy Snorkel Camera System is a "periscope" type of lens system designed for use in cinematography. Its primary applications are in the photographing of small scale models and in close-up work. Since its introduction in 1967, the system has been used extensively for these purposes, and has been especially useful in advertising work. It was hypothesised that the system could be modified without any loss in image quality by changing the relay system from a single relay lens to a telecentric relay system composed of two equal focal length lenses. A proposed low frequency MTF camera system uses a cylinder lens to smear an area-modulated sinusoidal target into an irradiance-modulated sinusoidal image for the evaluation of a film's modulation transfer characteristics. The proposed system was constructed and evaluated. Resolution limits, field flatness, field sharpness, repeatability, de focus effects and system MTF were determined. The camera was tested with film and found to have an MTF value close to 1.0 for frequencies up to 10 cycles/mm at which point the function dropped off to a value of 0.2 at 30 cycles/mm. Four levels of AgN03 and KBr reagent concentrations between 0.1N and 1.0N were used to study the effect of changing reagent concentration on the grain size dispersity of a primitive AgBr double-jet emulsion. The emulsions were precipitated in a continuous flow crystalizer at a constant pAg of 8.5 within the crystalizer. Emulsion samples were collected at 5 minute intervals during the make from the crystalizer and used to obtain grain size frequency distribution data. Digital image processing has been receiving an increasing amount of development in recent years, largely because high speed digital com puters are becoming readily available. In addition, the advent of the microprocessor has revolutionized the capabilities of compact electronic systems. This thesis examines the applicability of microprocessors to digital image processing. Using a Z8000 microprocessor as a baseline, the computation time for a two-dimensional fast Fourier transform is estimated for various microprocessor architectures. With the application of linear systems analysis, Fourier theory, and signal processing theory to vision science, the properties of the visual system are being defined in terms of such things as the modulation transfer function CMTF) . Earlier experimentation by other researchers has calculated the visual MTF using simple sine-wave targets. This experiment demonstrates the correlation between the visual MTF and the frequency content of simple images. Photographic tone reproduction analysis was applied to a digital image processing system (DIPS) . The problem was to calculate computer mapping functions for the DIPS that would cause input scenes to be reproduced having Clark's tone reproduction characteristics. Using the graphical method of a Jones Diagram, unique computer mapping functions were constructed for four images processed by the DIPS. After processing the imagery in the computer, the pixels were reconstructed into photographic transparencies for projection in a specially designed projection area. This procedure is used to gauge the quality of the film coating process.
