A Kodak model 101 sensitometer has been improved from the original design and is now able to follow A. N.S.I, standards for exposure of almost all sensitized products. Improvements made on the machine include the addition of an electromagnetic actuated shutter that is timed by an accurate integrated circuit timer that has the capability of six exposure times ranging from 1/100 sec. to 1 sec. Image Deblurring Using Lensless Fourier Transform Holography, Gregory Mccoy

Using lensless Fourier transform holography the problem of deblurring an out-of-focus image on a photographic transparency was studied. First a lensless Fourier transform hologram of an out-of-focus image was taken using a point reference source. By replacing this hologram into the recording plane and re-illuminating it with coherent light, the imaging wave transmitted through the hologram immediately gives, by Fourier transformation, the restored, deblurred image. A bar target was photographed out-of-focus, and using this method, with subjective analysis at 95% confidence, the deblurred image was judged better than the original. The Measurement Of Rms Granularity Of Black And White Photographic Materials Using A Visual Comparison Technique, Jack C. Smith

A method is described for measuring the RMS granularity of black and white photographic materials at a diffuse density of 1.0 using a visual comparison technique. A set of standard granularity patches was prepared for use with a comparison microscope. Samples with known values of RMS granularity were evaluated by observers and it was found that the observer -measured values of granularity correlated well with the actual values of granularity. Some discrepancies from the expected relationship between observer-measured values and actual values are discussed.

The purpose of this study was to establish a reliable control method to maintain the visual hue consistency of "critical colors" on a four-color lithographic press. The term "critical colors" indicates those colors which are deemed by the customer or pressman to be important for a particular job and will require special attention to maintain their hue consistency. Adsorption Capabilities Of Adsorbents For Selected Toxic Air Pollutants, Richard Michael Vaccaro

The relative adsorption capacities of seven toxic, volatile organic air pollutants of either proven or suspected carcinogenic potential were tested on various adsorbents. Tests were run at flow velocities similar to those set in field sampling. This allows for extrapolation of test results to actual ambient air sampling systems. Experimentation was performed using a gas chromatograph (G.C.) equipped with a flame ionization detector. Sample introduction was carried out using the "displacement method" where the sample is introduced to the adsorbent cartridge as a plug.

An external electric field was applied during autoradiographic exposures in an attempt to influence the path length and trajectory of image forming beta particles. Various techniques were employed to maximize the electric field applied. No evidence was found for increases in efficiency of image formation within the receiving emulsion, up to a field strength of 7 x 10 volts/cm.

The lithographic development of a silver iodobromide emulsion with thiocyanate substituted for bromide in a lith developer formulation showed differences in behavior with regard to induction time and maximum rate of development at equal levels of normality. An experiment was designed with development time, halide concentration, and exposure level as the variables with maximum rate of development, time to reach 0.20 optical density (induction time), and slope at 0.40 optical density as the response parameters.
