Development And Integration Of A Decision Support System For Electronic Outsourcing Into Telemanufacturing Service Provider, Vikram Batra
Theses
The use of computers and Information Technology enables manufacturers, especially small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to improve productivity and increase manufactuning flexibility. Telemanufactuning or manufacturing in virtual environment is one of the infrastructures that facilitate the use of information superhighways and computer technology to attain these goals. Broadly defined, Telemanufactuning is the utilization of services accessed via communication networks and across information superhighways to perform in real time, operations and processes essential to the design and production of items. It can be a key enabler for decentralized manufacturing using global resources and expert design teams. In addition to updating …
An Algorithm For Fast Route Lookup And Update, Pinar Altin Yilmaz
An Algorithm For Fast Route Lookup And Update, Pinar Altin Yilmaz
Theses
Increase in routing table sizes, number of updates, traffic, speed of links and migration to IPv6 have made IP address lookup, based on longest prefix matching, a major bottleneck for high performance routers. Several schemes are evaluated and compared based on complexity analysis and simulation results. A trie based scheme, called Linked List Cascade Addressable Trie (LLCAT) is presented. The strength of LLCAT comes from the fact that it is easy to be implemented in hardware, and also routing table update operations are performed incrementally requiring very few memory operations guaranteed for worst case to satisfy requirements of dynamic routing …
Whose Turn Is It Anyway : The Impact Of Job Rotation On The Reduction Of Cumulative Trauma Disorders, Francesco Dimiceli Jr.
Whose Turn Is It Anyway : The Impact Of Job Rotation On The Reduction Of Cumulative Trauma Disorders, Francesco Dimiceli Jr.
Theses
In today's fast-paced world, repetitive activity on the job has become very demanding. Many workers are suffering from injuries known as cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs). Job rotation can be an effective and powerful tool when seeking to minimize CTDs by allowing workers to experience different activities, thereby distributing the physical demands on the workers' bodies.
A case study was conducted on a northwestern New York manufacturing facility to identify the presence of excessive work stressors and to formulate potential corrective actions, including an analysis of their current job rotation system. The jobs were evaluated using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment. …
Thermochemical Properties Of Methyl And Chloro-Methyl Hyplochlorites And Ethers And Reaction Of Methyl Radical With Clo, Dawoon Jung
Theses
Hypochlorites are formed from reactions of chlorine monoxide (ClO) addition to unsaturates and association with radicals. ClO is a prevalent and an important species in chemistry of the atmosphere and in combustion systems where chlorine is present. Thermochemical property data on these oxy-chlorocarbon species are important to understanding the reaction pathways and kinetics in these environments. Enthalpy, ΔHf°298, entropy, S°298, and heat capacities, Cp(T) from 300 to 1500 K are determined for methyl hypochlorite and three chloro-methyl hypochlorites and formaldehyde-C1 atomcomplex radicals (CH2O--Cl, CHClO--CI, CCI2O--Cl) by density functional, and ab …
Design And Fabrication Of Optical Resonators, Pushkar Moholkar
Design And Fabrication Of Optical Resonators, Pushkar Moholkar
Theses
The design and fabrication of ring optical resonators for high-speed optical communication systems is the topic of this thesis. Its novelty is in two aspects: 1) Use of silicon wafers as an optical guiding medium; 2) Use of wafer bonding technique to attach two optical elements together.
The structure consists of two optical waveguides, the bus waveguide and the drop channel waveguide. A ring on top of these waveguides couples them in such a way that only one narrow spectral line is removed from the bus waveguides which propagates in the drop-channel waveguide. The assembly is fabricated using wafer-bonding technique …
A Study Of The Parameters And Stipulations Involved In The Design Of Prosthetic Limb Socket Liners, Sally F. Shady
A Study Of The Parameters And Stipulations Involved In The Design Of Prosthetic Limb Socket Liners, Sally F. Shady
Theses
The objective of this thesis is to illustrate the parameters that define and characterize the elements necessary for an optimal prosthetic socket interface design. Previous studies have revealed that the industry is manufacturing materials that are causing irregularities in gait patterns and causing major discomfort for transtibial amputees. As a result, chances for recovery and rehabilitation of many patients have been greatly reduced.
This study has indicated that the success of a socket liner depends on quantitative and qualitative factors that assess the overall efficacy of an artificial limb. Quantitative analysis is observed through calculations and deviations in gait cycles, …
Bounded Beam Wave Pulse Propagation And Scattering In Random Media Based On The Radiative Transfer Theory Using 2-D Gauss Quadrature Formula, Sheng-Kai Hu
Theses
The scalar time-dependent equation of radiative transfer is used to develop a theory of bounded beam wave narrow band pulse propagation and scattering in a medium characterized by many random discrete scatters, which scatters energy strongly in the forward scattering direction. Applications include the scattering of highly collimated millimeter waves in vegetation and optical beams in the atmosphere. The specific problem analyzed is that of a periodic sequence of Gaussian shaped pulses normally incident from free space onto the planar boundary surface of a random medium half-space, such as a forest, that possesses a scatter (phase) function consisting of a …
A Method Of Tracking Eye Motion For Human-Computer Interface, Martin Maranski
A Method Of Tracking Eye Motion For Human-Computer Interface, Martin Maranski
Theses
It would be of value to create another device for interfacing with a computer besides the commonly used handheld devices; one option is to determine where the user is looking on the screen. The major obstacle to overcome in this task is to be able to reliably track the motion of the iris and pupil in the eye. A method to do this is revealed here, using a variation of the Rough transform to detect circular patterns in a close shot of the eye. The algorithm was developed in Matlab and analyzed over a series of 20 sets of 6 …

Numerical Studies Of Deep Bed Filtration, Chan-Gyun Shin
Theses
Deep bed filtration is a process used to separate small solid particles suspended in a fluid by using granular solids as the collecting medium. The filter efficiency depends on many parameters such as the Reynolds number, particle drag coefficient, the ratio of the diameter of injected, and filter particles, etc.
In the present work we model the porous media flow (solution of the Navier-Stokes equations) by using a computer code developed by Dr. P. Singh and we restrict our analysis to the case of two dimensional periodic porous media. The computational domain is discretized using the finite element method. In …

Development And Characterization Of Techniques For Neuro-Imaging Registration, Carlo Ciulla
Theses
Three automated techniques were developed for the alignment of Neuro-Images acquired during distinct scanning periods and their performance were characterized. The techniques are based on the assumption that the human brain is a rigid body and will assume different positions during different scanning periods. One technique uses three fiducial markers, while the other two uses eigenvectors of the inertia matrix of the Neuro-Image, to compute the three angles (pitch, yaw and roll) needed to register the test Neuro-Image to the reference Neuro-Image. A rigid body transformation is computed and applied to the test Neuro-Image such that it results aligned to …

Concepts Of Science Fiction In Graphic Design: Concepts Of Science Fiction Applied To Graphic Design Problem Solving, Nawarat Teeraprasert
Theses
This thesis examines how the futuristic ideas in science fiction literature can be applied to graphic design. The paradigm that creates the connection between mind and emotion in science fiction, such as recurring images, pattern, space and time can be described as signifiers, the triggers of imagination, which can also function in graphic design as object orientation. By combining elements and models within science fiction systems with the theory of perception, a new approach to graphic design problem solving will be created.

Interpreting Wit, Annmarie Giunta
Interpreting Wit, Annmarie Giunta
Theses
Graphic design is everywhere and everyday just about everyone interacts with it on some level. Since some graphic design has evolved into quick "on-the-go" design, the elements used to create a message are being ineffectively used. When designing with the graphic design elements, for the most part, there is still a majority that does not understand the reasoning or meaning in the placement of the elements. The purpose of this thesis is to teach graphic design elements to those who do not understand graphic design. A teaching tool has developed with the evolution of this thesis; this tool is wit. …
