Mobility As An At-Risk Factor For Student Loneliness, Chad T. Towers
Theses
Student alienation is a complex and difficult experience for adolescents. One factor that counteracts alienation is peer acceptance. Often the changing of schools makes it difficult for adolescents to be accepted by their peers. This lack of peer acceptance often brings on feelings of loneliness. This study sought to determine if changing schools had a significant effect on student loneliness. Twenty mobile, or new, middle school students were compared with 26 stable students, who had been at the middle school since the beginning of their sixth grade year, to see if changing schools had a significant effect on student loneliness. …
Development And Evaluation Of An Intrinsic Gettering Process For Fabrication Of Integrated Circuits, James Ii Will
Development And Evaluation Of An Intrinsic Gettering Process For Fabrication Of Integrated Circuits, James Ii Will
Theses
An internal gettering process to collect and trap potentially harmful defects in the bulk of the silicon wafer, away from the surface where the integrated circuits are fabricated, has been developed in this work. This gettering process was then incorporated into the standard metal gate PMOS process utilized at RIT. Capacitors and diodes were electrically characterized to compare wafers that were gettered versus wafers that were not gettered. Results show that gettering did improve device characteristics, but only in the center of the wafers. The experimental results indicate that the diffusion of impurities from the furnace tube and quartz boat …
Effects Of Texture On Color Difference Evaluation Of Surface Color, Alexei Krasnoselsky
Effects Of Texture On Color Difference Evaluation Of Surface Color, Alexei Krasnoselsky
Theses
The parametric effects of texture on supratheshold color tolerance thresholds were investigated in two psychophysical experiments using simulated textures presented on a CRT. Textured images were created from scanned photographs of physical texture samples with semi-random textured pattern. Differences in appearance were created by varying the illumination geometry during the image capture stage. Two conditions were simulated: diffuse illumination of a standard light booth and directional lighting which accentuates texture relief. In the first experiment observers matched average perceived lightness of grayscale textured images by adjusting the lightness of a uniform gray field. Images varied in their average L*. The …

Solid Phase Organic Synthesis: Investigation Of Resins And Linkers For Phenols, Laurie Seifert
Theses
A loading and cleaving study was performed on solid phase to determine the optimal linkers and conditions for phenols, a key functional group in photographic couplers. Fourteen different commercially available resins were analyzed. Of these, ArgoGel Wang CI was determined the best for loading and cleaving the model phenol coupler. Yields of 95% for both loading and cleaving were achieved as determined by MAS Nanoprobe NMR and HPLC respectively. A few others gave great loading (90- 100%) such as Merrifield, Brominated Wang, Bromo PPOA, and TentaGel COOH, however poor cleavage ability rendered these resins insufficient for phenols.
Product Clustering For Focused Factories And Cellular Manufacturing, Judith Batista
Product Clustering For Focused Factories And Cellular Manufacturing, Judith Batista
Theses
In the past, clustering analysis techniques have been broadly utilized to segment markets. Recent studies (Berry et al. 1991) have used market-based clustering to examine manufacturing operations required to be competitive in different market segments. These authors proposed a methodology to categorize a set of products based on their similarity across a set of key variables, such as order-winning criteria, time considerations and volume levels. Their method incorporated the Agglomerative Hierarchy with k-Means Refinement Model to identify groups of similar products to be manufactured in a focused-factory. While many other multivariate clustering methods exist in the literature, the application of …

The Relationship Between Homophopia And Fear-Of-Intimacy In Heterosexual College Students, Bonnie S. Wilke
The Relationship Between Homophopia And Fear-Of-Intimacy In Heterosexual College Students, Bonnie S. Wilke
Theses
This thesis explores the relationship between homophobia and fear-of-intimacy in heterosexual college students, with a focus on gender differences. The study builds upon existing research suggesting that men often display higher levels of homophobia and fear-of-intimacy, potentially due to gender role socialization, cultural expectations, and psychosocial development patterns. Using Erikson's theory of psychosocial development and various social and psychological frameworks, the author hypothesizes that homophobia may act as a barrier to intimacy, especially in men.
A sample of 65 heterosexual undergraduate and graduate students (23 males and 43 females) from a Midwestern private university participated in the study. Participants completed …

A Vhdl Design For Hardware Assistance Of Fractal Image Compression, Andrew Erickson
A Vhdl Design For Hardware Assistance Of Fractal Image Compression, Andrew Erickson
Theses
Fractal image compression schemes have several unusual and useful attributes, including resolution independence, high compression ratios, good image quality, and rapid decompression. Despite this, one major difficulty has prevented their widespread adoption: the extremely high computational complexity of compression. Fractal image compression algorithms represent an image as a series of contractive transformations, each of which maps a large domain block to a smaller range block. Given only this set of transformations, it is possible to reconstruct an approximation of the original image by iteratively applying the transformations to an arbitrary image. Compression consists of partitioning the image into range blocks …

A Theoretical Model Showing The Effects Of The Fuel Induced Gamma Effect, Bryan Bordeleau
A Theoretical Model Showing The Effects Of The Fuel Induced Gamma Effect, Bryan Bordeleau
Theses
The Fuel Induced Gamma Effect uses pressure data from a single-cylinder directin-jection engine and information about the specific heat ratio, gamma, of the injected fuel to predict the evaporated fuel mass in the piston-cylinder assembly. Thermodynamic theory and ideal gas laws are used to calculate theoretical pressure within the cylinder and this pressure is then compared to the actual pressure measured in the engine. The difference in gamma between the calculated and actual states of the fuel is then used to predict how much fuel has evaporated in the cylinder. This simplistic approach also takes into account information about the …
