Comparison Of Tissue Classification Using Spin-Echo And Fast Spin-Echo Mri Imaging, Marvin Boonmee
Comparison Of Tissue Classification Using Spin-Echo And Fast Spin-Echo Mri Imaging, Marvin Boonmee
Theses
This study involves the comparison of two image acquisition sequences, the spin-echo (SE) sequence and the fast-spin-echo (FSE) sequence, used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The conventional SE sequence acquires one line of k-space at a time while the FSE sequence can acquire N lines of k-space at a time. FSE scan times are therefore much faster, but the disadvantages include a lower signal-to-noise ratio and reduced accuracy. The purpose of this study is to compare T1, T2, and ρ images calculated from both FSE and SE sequences and to determine if images from the FSE sequence can be corrected, …
Analysis Of The Spectra Of Degraded Documents, Ryan Swift
Analysis Of The Spectra Of Degraded Documents, Ryan Swift
Theses
The intent of this research was to examine the spectral reflectance of degraded documents to determine whether information is available in regions visible to the human eye. Ultimately we attempt to determine the practicality of manipulating visible (RGB) images to obtain similar information commonly obtained by using infrafred (IR) imaging methods. Charred newspaper was tested as an example of a degraded document. Spectral reflectance of the degraded documents was measured using a fiber optic grating spectrometer. In addition, images were taken of the documents in both the visible (RGB) and infrared (IR) regions of the spectrum. By examining the spectral …
Using Human Observers' Eye Movements In Automatic Image Classifiers, Timothy Grabowski
Using Human Observers' Eye Movements In Automatic Image Classifiers, Timothy Grabowski
Theses
This research thesis explored the way in which people look at images in different semantic categories (e.g., handshake versus not-handshake), and directly related those results to computational approaches for automatic image classification. Although many eye tracking experiments have been performed, to our knowledge, this was the first study that specifically compares eye movements across categories, and that links category-specific eye tracking results to automatic image classification techniques. The hypothesis was that the eye movements of human observers for images in different semantic classes differ (e.g., handshakes, others), and that this information can be effectively used in automatic techniques. We presented …
Algorithm For Mtf Estimation By Histogram Modeling Of An Edge, Brian Perry
Algorithm For Mtf Estimation By Histogram Modeling Of An Edge, Brian Perry
Theses
The Modulation Transfer Function, or MTF, is a property of an imaging system that describes the effect that the system has on the sharpness of an object. It is an important image quality metric that has applications in almost every major Imaging Science application. The traditional method of determining the MTF, however, relies on aligning an edge perpendicular to the scan line that will be used to take the measurement. This may not always be a convenient orientation for your experiments. It is hypothesized that there is a relationship between the histogram of the scan line (regardless of its position) …
Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer, Eric Sztanko
Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer, Eric Sztanko
Theses
There are many applications that require spectral information from either objects or scenes. This paper will describe the design, construction, and evaluation of an imaging Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) that will gather such spectral information. The design of the spectrometer is based on that of a Michelson interferometer. Theory, limitations, alignment, and cost will all be considered in this work.

Proof-Of-Concept: Three Dimensional Pipe Surface Reconstruction From 2d Laser Scanned Image, Matthew Altman
Proof-Of-Concept: Three Dimensional Pipe Surface Reconstruction From 2d Laser Scanned Image, Matthew Altman
Theses
A simulation of three-dimensional models of pipe defect detection systems has been performed. The primary goal is to inspect internal pipe structures for corrosion damage, structural damage, and buildup by driving a video-capture pipe inspection system through the pipe, processing the video, and creating a computer model of the pipe. The software system extracts frames from .avi-format movie files, renders up to thirty frames into a data cube and provides several different methods of visualization. Using commercial-off-the-shelf- technology and components, a simple model for the robotics and optics necessary to scan the interior structure was created. Illumination techniques, extraction algorithms, …
Design And Implementation Of A Lidar Imaging System, Cynthia Scigaj
Design And Implementation Of A Lidar Imaging System, Cynthia Scigaj
Theses
Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) is a valuable tool for collecting information along the coastline, which is also referred to as the littoral zone. Data collected in this area is useful for the study and analysis of algae growth, water depths, and identifying objects in shallow waters. A LIDAR system typically consists of a pulsed LASER, a light collection device, and a sensor. Currently at RIT we have an airborne imager called the Modular Imaging Spectrometer Instrument (MISI). MISI is a passive system and currently obtains data in the visible and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. My objective was …
Understanding One Another: Application Of Individual And Generational Behavior In The Organizational Environment, Nicole L. Brueggeman
Understanding One Another: Application Of Individual And Generational Behavior In The Organizational Environment, Nicole L. Brueggeman
Theses
The co-mingling effect of individuals and generations has a profound impact on organizational behavior. This study focuses on the behavior of individuals and generations in the organizational environment.
Organizations as social systems could not exist without people. This creates a complex problem, bow to deal with the diverse population that occupies the organizational environment. The interaction between an individual and a generational cohort group provides an exchange point for behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes. Research shows that each cohort grouping shapes behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes based on their exposure to events and social interactions. Behavioral Science describes bow these interactions provide …

Development Of Non-Contact Scanning Force Microscopy For Imaging In Liquid Environments, Anthony Grant
Development Of Non-Contact Scanning Force Microscopy For Imaging In Liquid Environments, Anthony Grant
Theses
The aim of this work was to develop a non-contact mode scanning force microscope (SFM) for application to biological samples within liquid environments. Given that biological samples are particularly soft in their natural state and that a liquid is the most difficult operating environment for non-contact mode scanning force microscopy, the development of an instrument that is optimised to image biological samples in vitro presents significant challenges.
Firstly, the SFM tip to sample interaction has to be minimised either, in the worst case, to prevent the sample from being detached from its support or to maximise spatial resolution by minimising …

Analysis And Synthesis Of Primary Side Cycle By Cycle Control Of Isolated Flyback Converters, Radoslaw Nalepa
Analysis And Synthesis Of Primary Side Cycle By Cycle Control Of Isolated Flyback Converters, Radoslaw Nalepa
Theses
This work presents the analysis and design of an isolated flyback converter, without feedback from the load side. The converter is controlled from the primary side using the switch voltage and innovative control circuit topologies.
A detail study of the flyback circuit is undertaken including all known parasitics. Besides the standard parasitics, for example the capacitor resistive effect, other more subtle effects are included in the model development such as inter coil couplingj source capacitance etc. Development of these models has provided information about circuit simplifications without losing accuracy of the model. As a consequence of this model development, it …
Voice Over Ip, Amit Datta, Paul Zam
Voice Over Ip, Amit Datta, Paul Zam
Theses
The area that this thesis covers is Voice over IP (or IP Telephony as it is sometimes called) over Private networks and not over the Internet. There is a distinction to be made between the two even though the term is loosely applied to both. IP Telephony over Private Networks involve calls made over private WANs using IP telephony protocols while IP Telephony over the Internet involve calls made over the public Internet using IP telephony protocols. Since the network is private, service is reliable because the network owner can control how resources are allocated to various applications, such as …

Development Of Amperometric Enzyme Electrodes For Glucose And Hypoxanthine., Eilish Broderick
Theses
This thesis is concerned with the immobilisation of enzymes on electrosynthesised poly (o- phenylenediamine) membranes for use on amperometric electrodes. The thesis opens with a discussion of the basic principles of enzymology and a review of a diverse range of biosensors, followed by a consideration of amperometry as governed by the Cottrell equation.
Glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase were co-immobilised in poly (o-phenylenediamine) on platinum electrodes at + 0.6 V versus Ag/AgCl. Using this approach the enzymes are entrapped in a strongly adherent, highly reproducible thin membrane, of thickness approximately 10 nm. This one-step procedure produces a glucose sensor with …

An Evaluation Of Fás's Excellence Through People Award, Antoinette Hogan
An Evaluation Of Fás's Excellence Through People Award, Antoinette Hogan
Theses
In 1997 FAS introduced the Excellence Through People Award, a human resource based quality standard. The main objective was to increase the level, relevance and quality of training being conducted in Ireland. It had become apparent that it was no longer sufficient to offer customers low cost products to try to gain advantage over competitors. Customers were becoming more sophisticated, with more disposable income. Also, technological developments were constantly shortening product lifecycles. Thus, what companies required was for their employees to know in real time what their customers value and to know how to provide it for them. It has …

Developing A Viable Intranet Site, Wendy C, Glidden
Developing A Viable Intranet Site, Wendy C, Glidden
Theses
This thesis will focus on establishing consistent guidelines in developing a successful corporate intranet website.
Office intranets are often neglected due to popularity of electronic commerce, and the company's investment in their public website. Standard instructions on how to develop a viable intranet site are not easily found and not likely taught.
With intranet development being a relatively new field, site expectations are very subjective. A site's perceived correctness largely depends on specific goals an organization has established for its site. There are generally high expectations and low budgets for intranets and if usability goals are not kept close at …
