The Relationship Between Principals' Spiritual Attitudes And Transformational Leadership, Latisha Dendy Meyer
The Relationship Between Principals' Spiritual Attitudes And Transformational Leadership, Latisha Dendy Meyer
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between principals' spiritual attitudes and transformational leaders and investigated if the combination of spirituality and demographic variables, such as gender, predicted transformational leadership. It was important to conduct this study utilizing the framework of transformational leadership since it has been identified as an effective type of leadership in educational settings (Leithwood & Jantzi, 1998; Ogawa & Hart, 1985). Piedmont's (1999) Spiritual Transcendence Scale was the instrument used to measure the participants' spiritual perspective and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire measured the type of leadership of each principal. The sample that was used in this study was …
Development Of Mass Spectrometric Methods For The Analysis Of Components And Complex Interactions In Biological Systems, Bryan Melvin Ham
Development Of Mass Spectrometric Methods For The Analysis Of Components And Complex Interactions In Biological Systems, Bryan Melvin Ham
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The anti-cancer agent 4, 4-dihydroxybenzophenone-2, 4- dinitrophenylhydrazone (A007) forms complexes with pdelocalized lymphangitic dyes that allow its penetration through the skin effectively delivering it to a meta-stable type cancerous site. Previous in vitro studies, combined with gas phase mass spectrometry studies, have shown that a stronger binding affinity equates to a greater efficacy of the drug. For the determination of drug:dye complex binding strength coefficients in solution, two methods have been developed by affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE), and cation exchange liquid chromatography (CELC). The methods demonstrated that A007 non-covalent binding strength was greatest for methylene green, followed by methylene blue, …

Location Based Authentication, Seema Sharma
Location Based Authentication, Seema Sharma
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
With the growth of wireless technologies in sectors like the military, aviation, etc, there is a need to determine the authenticity of a genuine user. Today's conventional authentication mechanisms are based on three factors: knowledge, possession and biometrics. These factors are prone to theft, hardware failure, expensive, etc. Consequently, there is a need of a stronger solution. One such solution is Location Based Authentication that considers the location information of a user. The location information is time based and thus hard to steal. However, accuracy of the GPS, signal strength inside the building, etc, affects its potential. Consequently, there is …

Compliance With Eu Law: Why Do Some Member States Infringe Eu Law More Than Others?, Giovanna Brazzini
Compliance With Eu Law: Why Do Some Member States Infringe Eu Law More Than Others?, Giovanna Brazzini
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Why do some member states infringe EU law more than others? Based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis reported here, is not because of administrative capacity limitations, but because of political context, policy changes and deliberate opposition by member governments in order to maintain their independence. States in turn, are motivated by domestic politics to seek to avoid implementing EU law. Additionally, I find that richer countries violate the law more often than poorer countries. Further, member states infringe more than others because of a high number of institutional and coalitional veto players. These results suggest that member states are …

Second Generation Immigrant Adaptation: Construction Of A Hybrid Cultural Identity, Sonia Ladha
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This study uses a postcolonial perspective to examine the construction of cultural identities in second generation South Asian women. It critiques traditional strategies of immigrant incorporation, including assimilation and cultural pluralism, for their androcentric and essentialist tendencies. It was found that the women constructed a cultural hybrid identity, and using Homi Bhabha's notion of third space, I discuss the process of how this hybrid identity is constructed. A phenomenological approach, in which the subjective voices of the participants are privileged, was used to analyze nine interviews for themes relating to the construction of a hybrid identity.

The Cloning And Characterization Of Two Rop/Rac G-Proteins From Gossypium Hirsutum, Nicole Asprodites
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Rop/Rac proteins are plant-specific monomeric guanosine triphosphate-binding proteins (G-proteins) with important functions in plant development. Until recently, only three cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) Rop/Rac G-protein genes were sequenced, representing subfamilies III and IV of the plant monomeric Gprotein family. In this project, members of subfamilies II and I were cloned, sequenced, and named GhRac2 and GhRac3, respectively. Using real-time reverse transcription PCR, expression of GhRac2 was highest during fiber elongation, decreasing significantly when cellulose biosynthesis began. Transcript abundance of GhRac3 doubled between fiber elongation and secondary wall synthesis, remaining constant until 20 days post-anthesis. Expression of GhRac2 and GhRac3 was compared …

Ad-Hoc Sharing For Palm Devices, Juan Gabriel Perez Priego
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The current generation of Palm PDA devices is designed to share information records primarily with a base desktop system, or a server. Therefore, their built- in features for sharing data during ad-hoc collaboration among groups of mobile users are inadequate. In this thesis, we describe a new framework that addresses this problem by allowing users to transparently share the record databases of common applications during spontaneous collaborative sessions. The framework also allows users to define custom sharing policies for each application/user pair. These policies determine the manner in which records are exchanged and update, thereby automating the process of handling …

A Comparative Analysis Of The Subsurface Stratigraphic Framework To The Geomorphic Evolution Of The Caillou Bay Headland, South-Central Louisiana, Elizabeth Mary Petro
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Studies have documented spatially and temporally variable rates of surface subsidence across the Mississippi River delta plain of Louisiana. Variations in patterns and rates of delta plain subsidence may reflect subsurface distribution of compactionprone lithosomes. This research investigates historical changes in the surface geomorphology of the Caillou Bay headland in relation to the distribution of subsurface lithosomes. The stratigraphic framework was developed for the headland, and lithosomes were identified to establish the distribution of different sedimentary units. The geomorphic evolution as indicated by maps was then evaluated in order to locate patterns of shoreline change and wetland loss for the …

Adapting The Single-Request/Multiple-Response Message Exchange Pattern To Web Services, Michael Ruth
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Single-Request/Multiple-Response (SRMR) is an important messaging exchange pattern because it can be used to model many real world problems elegantly. However, SRMR messaging is not directly supported by Web services, and, since it requires Callback to function it is hampered by current in-practice security schemes, such as firewalls and proxy servers. In this thesis, a framework will be proposed to support SRMR and Callback in the context of Web services and the realities of network security. The central component of the proposed solution is a Clearinghouse Web service (CWS), which serves as a communication proxy and realizes the correlation of …

Array Processing Techniques For Broadband Acoustic Beamforming, Ryan Thiel
Array Processing Techniques For Broadband Acoustic Beamforming, Ryan Thiel
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Audio acquisition and recording can benefit from directional reception of the acoustic signals. Current acoustic designs of highly-directional microphones are bandwidth limited and physically large. A microphone array used in conjunction with a beamforming algorithm can acquire and spatially filter the signal, but traditionally this has suffered from limitations similar to those of the purely acoustic designs. The work presented in this paper attempts to overcome these limitations by producing and analyzing three atypical techniques for broadband beamforming. The last and most successful technique employs an algorithm which calculates the difference in group delay of the acquired signals and uses …
Construction Of Some Unbalanced Designs For The Partition Problem, Yuefeng Wu
Construction Of Some Unbalanced Designs For The Partition Problem, Yuefeng Wu
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
In a pioneering work, Bechhofer (1954) introduced the concept of indifference-zone formulation and formulated some methodologies in the case of the problem of selecting the best normal population. In statistical literature, many vector-at-a time and unbalanced methodologies are available for the selecting the best normal population. However, the literature is not that rich for the partition problem. In this thesis, an unbalanced methodology of sampling along the lines of Mukhopadhyay and Solanky (2002) is introduced for the partition problem. A two-stage and a purely sequential procedure are introduced which take c observations from the control population from the control population …
The Impact Of Whole Faculty Study Groups And Peer Observations On The Professional Learning Community, Kelvin Adams
The Impact Of Whole Faculty Study Groups And Peer Observations On The Professional Learning Community, Kelvin Adams
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
In an era of school reform it should not be uncommon for educators to review every strategy or tool to initiate changes that will result in increased student achievement and school improvement. The rhetoric is that the changes begin with the federal government, state board of education, local school board, superintendent, and central office, but the reality is that the changes must begin at the doors of the school. In the school, the changes must begin with the staff, students, and the parents. The school community must become alive with learning among the staff, students and parents. The school staff …
