The role of the paraeducator in providing services to students with special needs has expanded to become part of a complex system of providing special education services. In order to meet the individualized needs of students with disabilities, educational agencies and school districts have increasingly relied on the services of paraeducators to facilitate the specialized instruction needed for students to participate in the least restrictive environment. Case studies were completed with three special education self-contained classrooms. The aim of the current study was to utilize a structural model to examine simultaneously the relationships among socioeconomic status (SES), anxiety sensitivity, stress, psychological problems, Native American identity, cultural related anxiety, and coping. The proposed structural equation model was tested using AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures). The social stress literature provided a theoretical framework; it suggests that SES-linked social stressors that result in higher levels of psychological disorders adversely affect people from lower SES backgrounds. Data were gathered from 150 Native American attendees at a Pow-Wow. SES was hypothesized to impact negatively on anxiety sensitivity. Anxiety sensitivity was predicted …

Objective. To determine the influence of psychosocial mediators on injury in college athletes, and to compare psychosocial data to orthopedic screening data for prediction of injury. We hypothesized that athletes with high life stress, high competitive anxiety, and low coping skills would incur more days missed due to injury, and that orthopedic data would be similar to psychosocial data in its ability to predict injury. This study examined the text and images in the Coretta Scott King illustrated award winning picture books published from 1974-2004 in order (1) to discover the themes and messages conveyed in text and illustrations, (2) to analyze the illustrations and text messages of the CSK illustrated award winning picture books for representations of holistic portrayals of African Americans, and (3) to determine cultural perspectives about African Americans. Data were categorized using matrices, cultural and holistic portrayals were addressed using Sims-Bishop's criteria, and a descriptive summary was presented in narrative form using Eisner's (1981) artistic approach.

The Role Of Joint Control In The Manded Selection Responses Of Non-Vocal Children With Autism., Joyce C. Tu

In the present study, joint control training was applied when teaching selection responses to four non-vocal children with autism. This study is a systematic replication of Tu (2001). The children were two males (ages six and seven), and two females (ages twelve and thirteen). The result showed that it was only after the joint tact/self-mimetic/sequelic control training that the symmetrical performance of manded selection responses appeared with no additional training.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of image properties on the accuracy of remote sensing change detection methods. Spectral class separability, radiometric normalization and image band correlation were evaluated through experiments with simulated data. The experimental results were then evaluated as a tool for predicting the relative accuracy of change detection results obtained from Landsat TM satellite image pairs of three U.S. cities: Las Vegas, Nevada; Phoenix, Arizona; and Atlanta, Georgia. Hypothesis: There is no statistically significant difference between counts of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Bacteroides forsythus, organism morphotypes, and probing depths and plaque scores in orthodontic patients with poor oral hygiene. Thirteen patients were included in the study. Before orthodontic appliances were placed (as baseline) and for four months a BANA test, plaque score, probing depths, and microscopy analysis were performed. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey HSD. Significant differences were found among patients for the BANA and plaque score. Currently, knowledge is limited regarding the extent to which: (1) nursing home residents perceive their oral health care as being adequate, (2) nursing home residents’ perceptions and actual oral health status are congruent, and (3) oral health care outcomes and residents’ perceptions of their own oral health care are influenced by levels of physical functioning. The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any differences in the occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea in patients with teeth and without teeth. Forty middle-aged subjects were screened, 20 were wearers of maxillary and mandibular complete dentures, and 20 were dentate patients. All subjects were screened via five screening tools: the Epworth Sleepiness Scale survey, measurement of neck size, calculated body mass index, and an intraoral exam visualizing the throat and determining the presence or absence of snoring. The Gettysburg Formation preserves the sedimentological record of the Late Triassic – Early Jurassic filling of the Newark-Narrow Neck-Gettysburg rift basin and subsequent intrusion by diabase. In the study area, bedrock is exposed only on the floor of the Susquehanna River. The Middle Magdalena Valley (MMV) basin, Colombia, evolved to its actual configuration through several stages closely linked with the tectonic events of the northwest corner of South America. Early Jurassic extensional deformation related to the break-up of Pangea, resulted in the development of rift structures in the MMV basin area. The syn-rift infill consists of fluvial and lacustrine sedimentary rocks (Jordán, Girón and Santos formations), overlain by limestones and shales (Basal Lime Group). Irregular discontinuous reflectors, rotated by normal faults and increasing thickness towards the south-east, characterize the Jurassic syn-rift section. The Blackwater River, historically an excellent brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) fishery, has been affected by logging, fires, coal mining, acid rain, and land development. Trends in water quality data from 12 sites in the Blackwater River watershed were examined for a 14-year period (1980–1993) using the information-theoretic method and the seasonal Kendall with correlation correction analysis. For most sites (except Beaver Creek), downward trends in acidity and upward trends in alkalinity, conductivity, and hardness were consistent with decreases in hydrogen ion concentration. Dissolved oxygen trended downward possibly due to natural conditions, but remained above biological thresholds. The seasonal Kendall trend …

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of three types of goal setting: performance goals, process goals and no goals, on a racquetball skill task, competitive state anxiety, and goal commitment. Forty college undergraduate students enrolled in racquetball classes were randomly assigned to one of three goal setting groups. Performance and anxiety were evaluated over two competitions conducted over a five week period. The instruments used were the Modified CSAI-2 (Jones & Swain, 1992) for anxiety, the Goal Commitment Questionnaire (Filby et al., 1999) for commitment and a goal manipulation check to measure goal setting changes. The larvae of the Herminiinae are macrodecomposers of forest leaf litter. Eight species were studied to determine the effects of aerially applied Btk. Adults were collected weekly by light trap for 7 consecutive seasons. The first 2 years provided baseline information, followed by 2 years of Btk treatment and 3 post-treatment years. Idia aemula (Hübner)(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae were collected from control plots and treated with Btk in the laboratory to determine susceptibility. This research addresses the multiple stage flexible flow shop with buffer limitation in order to maximize the sum of machines free time at the end of the process within the minimum makespan (FFs (Pm1, Pm2, ..., Pms)/block/ FL max ). Various approaches were used to obtain good solutions for the problem and an analysis was preformed to evaluate the quality obtained with each approach.
