Lung cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers. Novel, paradigm shifting treatments including immunotherapy and targeted therapies have recently been developed to cull the deadly effects of lung cancer, but many challenges remain. There remains a significant unmet need to accurately predict and optimally select for patients who will respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) treatment. In Chapter 2 of this dissertation, we investigated a novel live single cell cytokine profiling lab-on-chip platform, IsoLight, using peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells for ICI biomarker development. Pertussis affects all age groups and populations; however, it is most severe in infants who are too young to receive vaccinations and remains a global health concern with more than­­­­ 200,000 cases reported globally in 2023. H. pylori is the strongest risk factor for gastric cancer, with about 90% of the cases strongly associated with H. pylori infection. Half of the world's population is infected with this bacterium. However, only a small subset of the infected population (1-3 %) go on to develop gastric cancer. Mechanisms of voluntary motor control are complex and require inputs via cortical centers, peripheral sensory systems, and spinal inputs such as central pattern generators. It is hypothesized that control is simplified via utilization of motor primitives, which may rely on structures within the spinal cord, however this remains unknown in both human and non-human primates. The current study examined relations between developmental stage, impulsivity, and false confessions. Based on the findings from Tervo-Clemmens et al. (2023), participants were divided into two groups based on age; ages included those who had not yet reached executive functioning maturation (12-to-20-years-old) and those who had reached executive functioning maturation (21-to-37-years-old). Impulsiveness was determined by performance on a delay-discounting task based on Mok et al. (2020) and the Barratt Impulsivity Scale-11 (BIS-11) Self-control subscale.
